What if I'm not fully comfortable on the Segway after training?
On a few occasions, guests have decided they were not comfortable enough on the Segway after training to continue on with the tour. In these cases, we may offer to add additional training time and reduce your tour time; take you to Kapiolani Park where we can glide easily around the park and still enjoy the Segway experience; OR provide you a voucher for you to return and repeat the training/tour at another day and time. Your safety and comfort are paramount to us.
I'm a Waikiki local - will I enjoy this tour?
Even if you have seen the Hawaiian landscape before, you'll still enjoy the unique experience of riding a Segway. Our guides are also incredibly knowledgeable of the area and are sure to tell you new stories about your favorite Waikiki sites.
What happens if it rains?
The tour usually runs in light rain and other moderate weather conditions, but we may cancel up to an hour before the start time in the event of severe or unsafe weather conditions. If we cancel the event, you will be allowed to reschedule your tickets or receive credit for a future event. In the event of rain, remember to bring a poncho, not an umbrella, as you will need both hands to operate the Segway.
Are restrooms available?
There are public restroom stops along the tour route. If you should need to stop, please let us know and we will try to accommodate you.
Are there any food or drinks included in the tour?
Food or drinks are not included in the cost of the tour, but you will have opportunities to stop at snack bars along the way. Be sure to bring extra cash if you might want to purchase something!
Do Segways have the ability to store bags, purses?
We have the ability to transport necessary items like cameras and medications, and even towels and snorkel masks if you have them. Still, we advise you to keep your personal items to a minimum as our storage capacity can be limited.
What type of Segways will we be riding?
We will ride the second generation i2, released by Segway on Monday, August 14, 2006. This machine utilizes new technology called LeanSteer which allows the rider to lean in the direction he/she would like to turn. The Segway keys have also been updated to include wireless capability.
How does the Segway work?
Breakthrough technology called "dynamic stabilization," is the essence of the Segway. Dynamic stabilization enables the Segway to work seamlessly with the body's movements. Gyroscopes and tilt sensors in the unit monitor a rider's center of gravity at about 100 times a second. When the rider leans slightly forward, the Segway moves forward. When the rider leans slightly back, the Segway moves backward.
How fast do the Segways go?
The Segways have different levels of operation. The beginner level will limit the Segway to a maximum of 4 miles per hour during training. The intermediate level will limit the Segway to a maximum of 9 miles per hour. Once everyone is comfortable, we will usually move up to the intermediate level for the duration of the tour, and maybe even go to the max of 13.5 MPH if you're ready for it by the end of the event!
Will I be able to take pictures along the way?
Yes!! You'll have plenty of photo opportunities along the way and we strongly encourage you to take advantage of them!
How much time of the tour is actually spent on a Segway?
The majority of the time will be on the Segway. We start with a 20-30 minute training session and then ride on the Segway between 20-30 minutes spurts for swimming in the gorgeous blue Honolulu waters.
How safe is the Segway?
The highest levels of care and research have gone in to ensuring that the Segway™ is safe to operate. To this end, the Segway™ features self-balancing technology, redundant systems, and sophisticated alerts. Many tens of thousands of hours of testing and usage have demonstrated the Segway’s™ safety when properly used by a trained rider.
