What does Roots and Culture Mean?
We are called Roots and Culture Tours NYC because when you take one of our tours, you will discover one of the many roots of New York City; the contribution of its diverse communities and their cultures, which keep the city alive and vibrant.
Is the tour suitable for students?
Yes. We have a special ticket class for college-level students. Please bring your student ID or college library card as proof of your current student status.
What age qualifies for a free child ticket?
Roots and Culture Tours NYC believe it is important for families to enjoy vacations together. Therefore, it is FREE for all children 5 and under to take a tour (note that only 5 free children are allowed on each tour).
Are the tours suitable for children?
Tours are set at a leisurely pace and are suitable for all ages. Although there are a number of stops along the way, we do suggest that for babies or toddlers, parents bring a carrier or pram as this is a walking tour! All children in school (13 years of age or younger) must be escorted by an adult.
Can I pay in cash?
No. Due to the advanced food and other preparations that are made for the tour, you are required to purchase in advance. You can pay online or over the phone with a Visa, Mastercard, or American Express.
If the tour is sold out, is there a waiting list?
No. Roots and Culture Tours are available on a first come, first served basis. We encourage you to book early to avoid disappointment!
Is videotaping allowed on the tour?
While photography is allowed, filming or audio-taping is prohibited while on the tour.
How much walking is involved?
The approximate distance walked on this tour is about 2 miles. We keep a leisurely pace and there are no hills or extreme inclines to worry about! You will also be able to sit down at the Fraunces Tavern Restaurant stop.
Who are the tour guides?
All Roots and Culture tour guides are qualified licensed tour guides by the City of New York and hold a New York Sightseeing License. They all have a passion for the diverse cultures of the Big Apple and are a vivid part of the community!
Where does the tour end?
The tour will end at a different place than where it begins - your tour guide will direct you to the closest subway station and explain how to get back to where we started!
How much food is served on the tour?
There will be hors d'oeuvre - style food on the tour. A fish or chicken dish will be served. There will also be a vegetarian option available. Enough food will be served to constitute a sampler - this is not a full meal!
What if I have dietary restrictions?
We hope that the vegetarian option will meet most dietary restrictions. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that the food served on the tour will meet kosher or other standards.
Are there any beverages included?
Water will be available at the Fraunces Tavern Restaurant. Additional drinks may also be purchased there, such as beer, wine, spirits and nonalcoholic drinks. There will also be a dinner and lunch menu if you're still hungry after our tasting!
Is the tour wheelchair and stroller accessible?
