Sunset Land & Water Duck Ride |
What is a "Duck" vehicle?
The Duck was built in 1945 as a vehicle designed for the World War II era. It is 31 feet long and 8 feet wide, and can drive on land or on water! Originally designed for military purposes, the duck today provides entertainment and fun for people around the world.
How many people can go out on the Duck?
The Duck holds a total of 22 passengers plus the tour guides.
Do I have to purchase tickets in advance?
Advance purchase is highly recommended, and trips often sell out quickly. To maximize your chances of getting the day and time you prefer, please book well in advance. Tickets can be purchased with a Visa, Mastercard, or American Express.
What happens if it rains?
We go out rain or shine, as the duck is covered and a little rain won't affect our trip. In the event of severe weather (such as lightning) the trip would have to be canceled, and you would be allowed to reschedule to another day and time or receive credit for a future event.
Can children come?
Children are more than welcome on the tour. Infants up to 1 year of age are free, but must share a seat with an adult. Toddlers between the ages of 1 and 3 have a reduced price ticket, as do children ages 3 to 13. We can accommodate strollers in the duck shack, which will either be surveyed or locked up during the tour itself.
What age do I have to be in order to try driving the Duck?
There are no age limitations! Children as young as 2 years old have been able to successfully drive the Duck. The captain will stay up front with any guest drivers to supervise.
What's the difference between this tour and the regular duck tour?
They are almost identical, except for that this tour also includes the gorgeous Arizona sunset! On our way back you will have magnificent views of the sunset, so bring a camera with you.
Can I go on the tour if I'm pregnant?
Yes! The duck is stable and glides smoothly on both land and water. Although the land portion of the tour is slightly more bumpy than the water portion, pregnant women should be fine on the tour.
Do I have to be in good physical condition to take the tour?
Guests must be able to climb 6 steps (with assistance) to board because of the Duck's height. Guests with limited mobility should be able to board with the assistance of the guides. Unfortunately, we are not able to accommodate wheelchairs.
How early should I arrive?
If you have never been to the lake before, we recommend that you come a good 30 - 45 minutes early as there is much to see! We would appreciate if you came at least 15 minutes before your scheduled departure time.
Will I get wet?
We'll keep you dry! The Duck has plenty of covering that will protect you from the elements. A canopy covers the top of the Duck, and when we take our big splash into the water, you will stay protected!
Can I bring food or drinks on the Duck?
Yes! Feel free to bring a cooler with food and drinks with you, but keep in mind that the tour is only 1.5 hours long, so you shouldn't need too much. You are also welcome to bring alcohol along.
What should I wear?
Feel free to wear whatever you'd like on the tour. Keep in mind that this tour takes place during sunset, so it may get a little chilly out on the water. Bring layers just in case!
How long does the driving portion last? What about the cruise portion?
We will travel on land for about 25% of the time, and water for about 75% of the time.
Is there assigned seating? Are there any seats that are better than others?
Seating is done on a first come, first served basis. Usually everyone boards the bus at the same time, and there aren't any seats that are considered better than others. No matter where you sit, you'll be able to enjoy the duck tour to its fullest!
Is there a bathroom on the Duck?
No, unfortunately we do not have a restroom on board the Duck. However, there are bathrooms at the meeting location and we strongly encourage you to take advantage of them before we leave for the tour. When you arrive we will point you to the restrooms so you can use them before departure.
Can I bring luggage or strollers on the tour?
If you have any large items with you such as luggage or strollers, it is preferable that you leave them in the Duck shack during the tour. The Duck shack will either be surveyed or locked up for the duration of the tour, so your belongings will be safe!
How bumpy is the ride?
Not bumpy at all. The land portion is equivalent to riding a bus (with just some up and down motion and no side to side jerking). The water portion of the ride is nice and smooth, so you should have nothing to worry about!
Is there a fee for parking?
There is a $6 per car entry fee to Pleasant Harbor, but parking is free afterwards.
Where does the tour end?
The tour ends in the same place it begins.
Is the Duck safe? What about for small children?
Yes, the Duck is very safe. There are railings on the sides of the Duck that will keep small children from falling, and the Duck itself is very stable.
What should I bring?
Arizona Ducks will supply water and duck quackers for all our guests. You just need to bring your smiles!
What are duck quackers?
Duck quackers are small, plastic, bright colored duck bill whistles that quack when you blow on them!
