French Quarter Culinary History and Tasting Tour |
How does this tour differ from your other tour?
This tour is a longer tour (3 hours, instead of 2) and includes several delicious food tastings at some of the French Quarter restaurants we visit. Both tours cover much of the same culinary history, so the main differences are the duration and tastings.
Are advance purchase tickets required? Is cash accepted?
Tickets must be purchased in advance, as space is limited per tour. To maximize your chances of getting the day and time you prefer, please book well in advance. Cash is not accepted.
What is the maximum number per tour?
In order to provide an intimate, personalized experience, the tour is limited to 16 people per tour guide.
How much food is served on the tour? What sort of food will I be sampling?
Though we start at 2pm, there is enough food served on the tour that most of our guests consider it a late lunch. We visit five restaurants and the foods we sample usually include Jambalaya, French Pastry, Beef Brisket, Mini-Muffulettas and Pralines. (Please keep in mind that samples are subject to change.)
Are beverages provided?
No, beverages are not included on the tour, but they are available for purchase.
If I am bringing an infant/very young child, do I need to purchase a ticket for them?
If you are bringing an infant, or a child below the age of 7, and they will not be participating in the tastings, you do not need to purchase a ticket for them. However, please do let us know if you will be attending with an infant or young child when you purchase your tickets.
What about dietary restrictions?
Because our samples are supplied by restaurants and have been determined in advance, we are not able to modify the selections. Those with dietary restrictions need to consider their health needs first.
Do we just walk around and sample food?
Absolutely not! New Orleans and the French Quarter have a wonderful rich history. Visitors learn the history of the city and learn about the many ethnic influences that shaped our unique cuisine.
How much walking is included?
Although the tour can take up to 3 hours, we actually spend more time standing than walking. Most of the establishments are located within a 4 block radius. We are able to sit at some locations.
Are stairs involved?
Yes, we do climb stairs at 2 locations.
Is the tour wheelchair or stroller accessible?
Unfortunately not. New Orleans has rough, uneven sidewalks which make it very difficult.
What if it rains?
We do not cancel the tour for rain - only for extremely severe weather that has potential to cause injury (such as severe thunderstorms with lots of lightning and of course, hurricanes.) Refunds will be offered in the extremely rare event that the company cancels the tour, but in all other situations, no refunds will be provided.
Can I bring my dog?
Although we love animals, no. We actually go into a number of restaurants, and they do not allow pets.
What does the tour offer to the native New Orleanian?
We like to say "come be a tourist in your hometown!" The French Quarter is a wonderful and interesting neighborhood, and we visit restaurants that some consider for special occasion only. So it provides locals a chance to visit establishments they might not otherwise go to. And the tour is very informative in regard to culinary history.
