What is the cost for toddlers?
There is no charge for children under 4. From 4 to 15, the cost is $10. Adult cost is $15.
Are wheelchairs allowed on the ferry?
Yes, wheelchairs are allowed on the ferry. There are also wheelchairs available at Ellis Island. We spend most of our time on our feet, sitting whenever we can.
How long should we allow to have a complete visit?
There is so much to see at Ellis Island! Generally, you should allow for two additional hours after the tour to visit galleries or do genealogy research. Computer terminals are available for research at $5 for a 30 minute session.
Is there an advantage to doing genealogy research while at Ellis?
Although you can access the genealogy database from your home, it is smart to do your research while at Ellis. There are representatives from the Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation to assist you if you run into any glitches. You can also print out your ancestor's manifest while you are there.
What is the Wall of Honor?
The Wall of Honor is a permanent memorial to ALL immigrants to America. In order to have a name on the Wall of Honor, someone must make a tax-deductible donation of $100. You can register a name while you are at Ellis.
There are special Wall of Honor computers at Ellis to find out where your honoree's name is located. Bring a pencil or a crayon! Many folks like to make a rubbing of the name.

I sure can! I love advising folks as how to maximize their visit to lower Manhattan.
What about lunch?
There is fast food available at Ellis Island...or you may want to visit a fine deli located across the street from Battery Park.
How long does the tour last?
The actual walking tour at Ellis Island lasts one hour. However, in order to get to Elis Island, we must take a Hornblower ferry from Battery Park in lower Manhattan. That ferry will first stop at Liberty Island and then proceed to Ellis. From Battery Park to Ellis, the trip takes 45 minutes. The tour begins immediately upon arriving at Ellis.
