Activity Description
Join us for a unique view into one of New York City's most diverse and storied neighborhoods.
This walking tour of Greenwich Village is the best and most enjoyable way to learn of the rich cultural, social and architectural history of America's most unique neighborhood.
We cover a lot of turf as we explore the meandering streets of America's Left Bank, walking what were once the paths of Native Americans, and then boundaries between Dutch boweries (farms) and English country estates.
On our walk, we learn of the sudden move uptown when cholera struck lower Manhattan and how Greenwich suddenly became Greenwich Village, home to freed blacks, Irish immigrants, bohemians, artists, writers and musicians...creating an environment hospitable to free thinkers, socialists, homosexuals and others wishing to escape the confines of middle class conformity.
