What is a "Duck" boat?
This vehicle is able to drive on land and also motor in the water! It's a bus...It's a boat..... It's the "Duck" boat!!
What kind of "duck" is Downeast Duck?
Bufflehead is a custom built, US Coast Guard approved Amphibious Vessel that was built right here in the state of Maine in 2005. It is 38' long, 12'2" tall, and has a 175 horsepower turbo charged Diesel engine.
Do the Ducks run in the rain?
Downeast Duck will operate in moderate rain and weather conditions. The top and sides can be covered as rain passes by.
Do I need to buy tickets for babies?
Yes, due to Coast Guard regulations, all passengers must purchase a ticket for a total head count. There are reduced prices for children ages 4 - 15 and lower prices for children 3 and under.
Can pregnant women come on the tour?
Pregnant women should attend at their discretion. The ride can be a tad bumpy, so please consult with a doctor beforehand if you have any concerns.
Can I bring my dog on board?
Yes, if your dog is well behaved. Please make a stop for them before you board the Duck!
Will I get wet on the tour?
No, you shouldn't get wet while on the water (unless there is a little rain).
Can I bring food and drink on board?
Yes, but no alcohol is allowed on our public tours. Please use the trash cans upon your departure. Keep in mind that no food, drinks or souvenirs are sold aboard the duck.
Is there assigned seating on the tour?
No, all seating is first come, first served.
Can I bring a stroller on board?
We do not encourage bringing strollers on board, but strollers (and wheelchairs) can be left at the duck stop which is monitored throughout the duration of the tour. Keep in mind that Downeast Duck is not responsible for personal items.
Is there a bathroom on board?
There are no facilities on board. Please make a stop before you board your tour. There will be public restrooms available within two blocks of our meeting spot and we can direct you to them!
How long is each part of the tour?
The tour is about half on land and half on water, so it ends up being about 30 minutes on each!
Where does the tour end?
The tour begins and ends where you board the Duck. Details will be provided upon purchasing tickets.
Is there parking nearby?
Yes, there are parking meters on street and several parking garages nearby.
Is the tour handicapped accessible?
The Downeast Duck has nine steps to board. If you have limited mobility and are able to climb aboard, with the help of our crew, we will store wheelchairs at the Duck Stop.
Can I book a private tour or charter?

We are Downeast Duck Adventures. We offer an entertaining historical adventure of Portland, Maine on an Amphibious Vessel. We have been waddling through the streets and splashing into the harbor for over 5 years. We are Maine's only amphibious adventure that can show you Portland by land and sea without ever leaving your seat.

The Downeast Duck is a custom built Amphibious Vessel that was designed and built right here in the state of Maine in 2005. It is built in adherence to the strictest US Coast Guard specifications, and is fully inspected by the US Coast Guard annually. The vessel seats 36 passengers and 2 crew members. Sitting aboard this high-riding vehicle, you will experience the city like no other!! An outstanding excursion for all ages!!!!
