How tall does my child need to be to ride a tandem?

Anyone wishing to ride a tandem must be at least 5 feet tall. The tandems are not for young children or people who have never ridden a bike before. We offer trail-a-bikes and other child attachments with our Hybrid bike rental.

What does my bike rental include?

Bike rentals include a bicycle, helmet, and map. Locks are also included with the rental - be sure to ask for one when purchasing your tickets or when you arrive at our shop.

How long do the rentals last?

Rentals last for 4 or 24 hours (you choose the duration upon ticket purchase), though you are welcome to return your bike earlier of course. There is no overnight charge but late rentals will be charged for an extra day.

Can I rent a bike for more than one day?

Sure thing! Use the "Contact AdvenTours" link to set up a multi-day rental in advance.

Do you offer delivery?

Yes! To purchase a delivery, contact Urban AdvenTours using the "Contact this seller" link. At least 24 hours advance notice is required for delivery. You may also purchase delivery after you've booked a rental online by contacting Urban AdvenTours, but purchasing a rental does not guarantee delivery.

What are the shop hours when I can pick up and return a bike?

APRIL - SEPTEMBER: 9am - 8pm, seven days per week. *** OCTOBER: 9am - 7pm, seven days per week. *** NOVEMBER: 9am - 7pm, seven days per week. *** DECEMBER: 8am - 6pm, six days per week (closed Sundays in December).

Are the rentals safe?

Yes. Urban AdvenTours is a fully insured company and you will be provided with a helmet. All bikes and helmets are fully outfitted with reflectors, and lights are available to rent. Be sure to arrive 20 minutes prior to departure time for bike adjustments, to ensure a safe and secure fit. UA staff can also provide advice for safe city riding.

Do I have to purchase a bike rental in advance?

Advance purchase is strongly recommended, as the number of bicycles is limited. To maximize your chances of getting the rental you prefer, please buy your tickets well in advance, either online or by phone. Tickets can be purchased through Zerve with a Visa, Mastercard or American Express.

Is there a security deposit?

All participants must provide a credit card at the start of the rental. There will be no charge on the card. The information will only be used in the case of damage or loss of property.

Am I required to sign a waiver?

Yes. It is a requirement that all individuals participating with Urban AdvenTours agree to sign a waiver. If you are under the age of 18, your parent or legal guardian must sign for you. Instructions for printing and signing the liability waiver will be provided upon purchasing your tickets. Waivers will also be available in the UA shop when checking in for your rental, but it’s usually an easier process if printed in advance!

What if there is rain or inclement weather?

The rental will typically go as planned in a light rain. If Urban AdvenTours feels it is unsafe to ride a bicycle, we will contact you on the day of the rental to reschedule to another time that is convenient for you. Please be sure the local (or cell phone) number you provide when buying your tickets is accurate.

What happens if a bike is lost or stolen during a tour or rental?

The customer is liable for the bicycle and will be responsible for the full retail cost of the bike rented.

Are children welcome to rent a tandem?

Tandems are a great solution for adults with children who can ride, but might not be very confident. Anyone wishing to ride a tandem bike must be at least 5 feet tall.

Are any child attachments available on the tandem bikes?

No, attachments such as child seats, Trail-a-bikes, and Burley trailers are not available on tandems for safety and compatibility reasons. However, attachments are available for customers renting hybrid bikes. If you would like to rent a hybrid bike and arrange for an attachment, please let us know by clicking the "Contact AdvenTours" link.

Can I rent a specialty bike?

Yes, specialty high-end road and fixed gear bikes are available for rental through the "Specialty Bike Rental" activity listed on this site. Click on "List of All Activities" to the left of the page to check out this activity

Are gift certificates available?

Absolutely. There is no better gift for a new student or new resident in the Boston area. It is a great way to help them become more acclimated to the city. Gift certificates are also great birthday, thank you, Christmas, and anniversary gifts. To purchase a gift certificate, please click on the "Contact AdvenTours" link.

Can I rent bikes for a large group?

Of course. For groups of 10 or more, we suggest using the "Contact AdvenTours" link.

Will I save money by returning my bike early?

No - any rental up to the time limit (4 hours or 24 hours) costs the same.

Are tickets refundable?

Ticket purchases cannot be refunded. If you have to cancel your reservation, we will try to reschedule your event, subject to availability.

What if I get a flat tire during my rental?

If you know how to repair a flat, you may rent a flat tire repair kit (which includes levers, pump, and a tube) for $5. You may also purchase UA Flat Repair Service for $15, and a guide will ride to your location in Metro Boston to repair your flat. If you choose not to purchase Repair Service and need assistance, there is a $25 fee.

Can I leave luggage at the shop?

We can store personal articles, bags, or larger luggage during the day for customers on tour or renting bikes. We are not responsible for lost/damaged items. Sorry, but we cannot store anything overnight.

Refund/Rescheduling Policy

Non-refundable, can be rescheduled with 24 hours notice.

Once purchased, tickets cannot be refunded. You may reschedule your tickets (subject to availability) only if you do so at least 24 hours in advance.

Weather Policy

Activity may be cancelled due to severe weather.

The activity usually runs in light rain and other moderate weather conditions, but the seller may cancel the activity up to an hour before the start time in the event of severe or unsafe weather conditions. If the seller cancels the event, ticket-holders will be allowed to reschedule tickets (subject to availability) or receive credit for a future event.

Other Policies

Participants must sign a waiver before renting a bike.

Upon arrival, participants must sign a waiver before riding. Participants under 18 must have a parent or legal guardian sign for them.

All rentals require a credit card authorization.

Customers are responsible for the safe and timely return of all rented equipment.

If a rental bicycle, helmet, or any accessory is lost, stolen, damaged or not returned to Urban AdvenTours, you will be charged for its full retail value. If you do not return equipment by the end of business on the day of your rental, you will be charged for an additional day. This fee will be charged to the credit card information you provide at check in.
