Meeting Location
Various area hotels (Lexington, KY)
(Exact meeting location details will be provided immediately upon purchase of tickets.)
- Do I have to purchase tickets in advance?
- Yes, and since tours often sell out we recommend you book as far in advance as possible.
- Are the tours always the same?
- Tours can vary in terms of the farms we visit or drive through along the route. Occasionally a farm we visit may have to close to visitors with short notice due to extraordinary circunstances. Also, the tour will vary during Keeneland’s racing season in April and October. During the race season we go to Keeneland every day in the morning but only Monday and Tuesday afternoons. An additional farm or other venue is substituted for any sites we cannot visit.
- Where do we meet the tour?
- We have two primary hotel pickup locations in Lexington. We pick up from the Crowne Plaza Hotel at 8:30am/12:30pm, and the Embassy Suites Hotel at 8:45am/12:45pm. In addition to our primary locations we also offer the option to be picked up at one of our other partner hotels such as the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Gratz Park Inn, Lyndon House, Marriott Courtyard North, Marriott Griffin Gate, Clarion, and Sheraton Four Points. If you choose one of these alternate hotels, you must be ready for pickup 30 minutes before your tour's start time. However, you may be picked up anywhere from 5-30 minutes prior depending on how many pickup points are needed for the tour you selected. You can select your pickup location when purchasing your tickets. Note that if you are driving, both the Crowne Plaza and Embassy Suites have large parking lots where you can park for free.
- What if I'm not staying at one of those hotels?
- If you are not staying at one of the hotels listed above, we suggest driving to either the Embassy Suites or the Crowne Plaza. If you interested in being picked up at another location, special arrangements can be made for other pickup locations for private tours. To contact us about booking a private tour, please click on the "Contact Thoroughbred" link to discuss arrangements.
- What if I am running late?
- We leave on time and to be fair to everyone we cannot wait. If you are only running late by a couple of minutes, please contact us and we will try to assist you but there is no guarantee. Contact information will be provided upon purchasing tickets.
- Are we on the van the whole tour?
- Absolutely not. The tour takes place on a van since the locations are spread around the Lexington area. However, about half the time is spent outside the van when we visit the Keeneland Race Course and one of the premier thoroughbred farms, giving you the opportunity to experience the locations and to take pictures.
- How many people can come on the tour?
- We have two vans and can take a maximum of 18 people. Please note that we will do everything possible to keep groups together but there is the chance that groups may need to split up between the two vans. For groups larger than 18 people, we can set up a private tour, so please click on the "Contact Thoroughbred" link for more information.
- Is there an age limit?
- There is no age limit but this tour is not recommended for children under six years old. If you decide to bring infants and/or toddlers they must be in a car seat according to Kentucky state law. Parents and/or guardians of these children must bring the car seat with them and install it themselves in our van.
- Is the tour wheelchair accessible?
- Our vans are not wheelchair accessible but it may be possible to accommodate mobility challenged individuals. Please click on the "Contact Thoroughbred" link to contact us about your specific situation.
- What happens if it rains?
- Our tours run rain or shine and we have only canceled one time due to weather. Please dress appropriately for the weather as we do get off the van several times. During inclement weather we have covered walkways at Keeneland and are inside the thoroughbred barns when we visit the farm.
- How should I dress for the tour?
- Since we will be spending approximately half of the tour off the van, it is best to dress appropriately for the day's weather. Casual clothing and comfortable shoes for walking are best.
- Are cameras and video cameras allowed?
- Yes, cameras and video cameras are allowed at all our locations, so please feel free to bring them with you.

- Will we be able to purchase gifts on the tour?
- We generally allow a few minutes at the Keeneland gift shop to purchase souvenirs, time permitting.
