Description

Get to know Miami beyond South Beach and venture to off-the-beaten-path places for curious eaters.

On this tour we'll discover Little Havana, a lively, family-friendly neighborhood, and begin an edible journey through one of Miami’s oldest neighborhoods. Learn about traditional, rustic Cuban cuisine by tasting your way through the must-visit street in the area, Calle Ocho, where you'll meet local artists, watch cigar rollers and take a peek at Domino Park.

This 2-hour food tour is both a cultural and a culinary experience in which we'll focus on smaller, non-touristy and family-owned restaurants and discover the stories and background of the foods we sample as well as meet the people who make them. While gaining insight into this vibrant Miami neighborhood, we'll stop at 6 tasting locations to taste some of the following:
  • Learn about and taste Mariquitas or Malanga Frita.
  • Enjoy chicken and picadillo stuffed plantain cups.
  • Step back in old Cuba and taste guarapo juice (or what’s fresh and in season) at a family run fruteria.
  • The best guava pastelito in town (seriously).
  • Try a cafe Cubano crafted by the most talented barista in town: Betty!
This tour is designed for both locals and visitors who want to learn about the area’s history and culture while tasting Cuban foods that have been prepared from recipes handed down through generations. We'll avoid the crowds so you can experience the intimate charm of each unique place we visit.

FAQs

Do I have to purchase tickets in advance?
Yes, tickets must be purchased in advance. Tours often sell out so we suggest purchasing your tickets early to guarantee your desired tour day. You can purchase your tickets with a Visa, MasterCard or American Express.
What about inclement weather?
Tours are held on rain or shine. Miami can get hot, so please come prepared with sunscreen, a hat and a bottle of water.
Can children attend the tour?
We do offer reduced-price child tickets for children 12 and under, however keep in mind that the tour is 2 hours long and some children have a limited attention span. Therefore, the tour may not be appropriate for some of them. Please consider the amount of walking and standing when deciding whether the tour is appropriate for your child. Any child 12 and under who will not be eating is not required to have a ticket, but please let us know that they will attending when purchasing your tickets.
How much food is served on the tour?
We make approximately 6 food stops on this tour. All of the food and drinks are included in the ticket price, and after the tour, 99% of our guests tell us they feel full.
What are the names of the restaurants we will visit?
We work with a wide variety of restaurants in each of the neighborhoods we operate. We cannot guarantee exactly which foods we’ll be tasting each week or which restaurants we’ll be stopping at, as they might change based on several factors. For example, we take into consideration what is fresh, what is new, which restaurants are available, and what chefs and cooks are crafting each week. In addition, part of the nature of taking a “food tour” is to keep the food stops and tastings a surprise. Remember that our tours are not only about the food, but are also architectural, historical, cultural and culinary tours as well.
What if I have dietary restrictions?
Please let us know if anyone in your group has a food allergy or dietary restriction (e.g. vegetarian, diabetic, gluten, etc.) when you purchase your tickets. As long as we know in advance, we can often accommodate your needs. Please note that we will do our best to accommodate guests with dietary restrictions but there are some tastings on the tour that can be very difficult to replace depending on what each location offers (i.e., finding a substitution for a diabetic in a pastry shop can be challenging).
Are there any beverages served on the tour?
Yes, you’ll have the opportunity to have water at many of the tasting stops. In addition, there are usually one non-alcoholic beverage tasting on the tour. Also, remember that it's hot in Miami, so we encourage guests to bring their own bottles of water as well.
How far do we walk and at what pace?
The tour covers approximately 8 blocks over a 2 hour period. In general, it's a leisurely stroll with a couple of seated tastings, however, we still recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes.
Does the tour start and end at the same place?
No, but the tour ends just 2 blocks from the starting location. Your guide will be happy to direct you back to the starting location.
Are restrooms available during the tour?
Yes, there are restrooms at several locations throughout the tour.
Would locals enjoy the tour?
Absolutely! A number of our tour participants are locals. Even natives are sure to learn some interesting facts about area history, architecture and culture. And while you may have been to some of the tasting locations on the tour, you will see them in a whole new light.
What should I wear?
We recommend you wear comfortable walking shoes, as this is a walking tour and you will be on your feet at various points during the tour. We also recommend a hat and sunscreen for when the sun is shining and an umbrella if there is a chance of a passing shower.
Is there parking available nearby?
Yes, there is street parking available as well as a free parking lot near the starting point of the tour. Specific parking details are provided upon the purchase of your tickets.
Are tours wheelchair accessible?
The restaurants and eateries we visit are wheelchair friendly.
Can we shop along the way?
We ask that guests hold off on their shopping until after the tour as we need to stay on schedule for our food tastings. We end nearby the starting location, so it will be easy to find your way back to any of your favorite stops.
Am I allowed to bring a camera?
Yes, photos are encouraged but video is only allowed if you want to film your friends or family on the tour. It is not permitted to film the tour guide for any extended period of time. Tour guides reserve the right to ask you to stop filming.
