Seller Description:
Your guide will be a foremost expert on Ellis Island, with an affiliation with Ellis Island beginning in 1978. For three years, Tom Bernardin worked as a National Park Service ranger at Ellis Island, interacting with immigrants and hearing their stories. His experience meeting these immigrants led him to create Ellis Island-The Golden Door, a slide lecture he still presents - and to compile his book, The Ellis Island Immigrant Cookbook. Tom is a licensed New York City tour guide, offering general New York City tours as well.

Activity Description
Enjoy and learn on this walking tour retracing the steps of our immigrant ancestors at Ellis Island, the main immigration inspection station from 1892-1924. Your guide will be Tom Bernardin, author and publisher of The Ellis Island Immigrant Cookbook and former National Park Service Ranger at pre-restoration Ellis Island (1978, 79, 80).

The Hornblower ferry now offers "Reserve Tickets" at www.statuecruises.com.   This allows you to purchase a ticket for a specific time to enter the security tent.

It is your responsibility to obtain these ferry tickets.  I meet my Zerve tours in front of the Main Building at Ellis.

We then begin our tour of Ellis and visit the Baggage Room and Main Registry Hall, among other stops. All your questions will be answered: info on genealogy research, the Wall of Honor ( listing 650,000 names submitted by donors), and other activities to consider after the tour.

Tom will also be happy to personalize and autograph copies of his book, The Ellis Island Immigrant Cookbook, available at the Ellis Island gift shop.

What Is Not Included?
The cost of the ferry ticket, lunch, and additional purchases are not included in the price of the tour, so please bring additional cash or a credit card.

Ferry tickets are $12.00 for adults(13-61), $5.00 for children (4-12), and $10.00 for seniors (62 and over).

Tours of the 32 galleries are self-guided and not part of the walking tour. After the tour you can choose to stay at Ellis Island or board a ferry directly back to Manhattan to continue your activities.  If you come via New Jersey, the ferry from Ellis will first go to Liberty Island and then NJ.
