Downtown (14th and I ("Eye") Streets, NW) (Washington, DC)
(Exact meeting location details will be provided immediately upon purchase of tickets.)
Advance purchase is strongly recommended, as tours often sell out quickly. To maximize your chance of getting the day and time you prefer, please book well in advance. You can do this online or over the phone using only Visa, Mastercard or American Express.
Who can ride the Segway ® HT?
Although riding a Segway HT is relatively easy, Washington, DC law does require that all riders be at least 16 years of age (an adult or guardian must accompany children under 18). Also, riders should have the ability to make motions such as climbing and descending stairs without assistance. The Segway HT is not appropriate for those weighing under 100 pounds or over 250 pounds.
I have children in my group that are under 16 years old. Can they still come on the tour?
No, unfortunately children under the age of 16 are not permitted on the tour for safety reasons.
What exact locations do we visit?
The exact itinerary and route of the tour varies somewhat from tour to tour, so we can't say ahead of time exactly which locations will be visited on a specific tour. We do, however, usually visit as many of the following as possible: the White House, the Old Executive Office Building, the Blair House, the Ronald Reagan International Trade building, the American History Museum, the Washington Monument, the Smithsonian Castle, the Natural History Museum, the Hirshorn Gallery of Modern Art, the Freer Gallery, the National Air and Space Museum, the Botanical Gardens, the US Capitol, the Canadian Embassy, the US Navy Memorial, the National Archives, the Newseum, the J. Edgar Hoover FBI Headquarters, Freedom Plaza, the National Theater and the Warner Theater.
How will I hear the tour guide’s commentary?
Each rider will be provided with a top of the line headset unit, making it easy to hear the information being offered by the guide and guaranteeing an optimal tour experience.
What happens if it rains?
Tours run rain or shine. But don't worry! Some of our best tours have taken place in less-than-perfect weather! Just remember to bring a poncho, not an umbrella, as you will need both hands to operate the Segway.
Do I have to sign a waiver?
All Segway riders must sign a liability waiver before participating. Riders under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian sign for them.
I am a DC-area local - will I enjoy this tour?
Though you may have seen the sights before, you will still enjoy the unique experience of gliding around the Nation's Capital on a Segway and seeing it all from a different perspective.
Can I buy food or drinks along the way? What about souvenirs?
Unfortunately, the tour is structured so that we can visit a large amount of Washington DC's landmarks, which leaves very little time for any other stops. We recommend you arrive full, as you can only bring necessary items on the Segway. The tour finishes in downtown Washington DC, so you will have the opportunity to go souvenir shopping at the end of the tour.
Where does the tour end?
We will return to our tour departure point near 14th & I ("Eye") Streets NW. The exact meeting location will be provided to you after ticket purchase.
How much time of the tour is actually spent on a Segway?
The majority of your time will be on the Segway. We will start off with a short training session and then be on the Segway for the remainder of the time. There are no stops unless the tour group would like to stop and rest or take pictures.
Will we stop to take photos and go inside the sites listed for the tour?
While we can stop at some of the locations to take in the views and snap some photos, there isn't enough time on the tour to go into any of the sites--there is too much ground to be covered!
Do Segways have the ability to store bags, purses?
We have the ability to transport necessary items i.e. cameras, medications, etc. All other personal belongs will be kept in the meeting location. Capital Segway is not responsible for lost or stolen articles.

How does the Segway HT work?
This breakthrough technology, termed "dynamic stabilization," is the essence of the Segway HT. Dynamic stabilization enables the Segway HT to work seamlessly with the body's movements. Gyroscopes and tilt sensors in the unit monitor a rider's center of gravity at about 100 times a second. When the rider leans slightly forward, the Segway HT moves forward. When the rider leans slightly back, the Segway HT moves backward.
What is the Segway Human Transporter (HT)?
The Segway Human Transporter (HT) is the first self-balancing, electric-powered transportation device. With dimensions no larger than the average adult body and the ability to emulate human balance, the Segway HT uses the same space as a pedestrian, and can go wherever a person can walk.
How safe is the Segway HT?
The utmost care and research has gone into ensuring that the Segway HT is safe. The Segway HT's balancing technology is truly revolutionary and provides an exceptional riding experience. The Segway HT has redundant systems and sophisticated alerts built into its design, and many thousands of hours of use have demonstrated that the Segway HT is safe when used appropriately. It is important that Segway HT riders understand their responsibility to ride safely. Proper skill level and understanding of the Segway HT prevents injuries caused by loss of control or misuse.
How fast do the Segways go?
Segways have a top speed of 12.5 mph. Capital Segway does not limit your speed. Other "unauthorized" Segway tour companies use the "black key" or use the "turtle" mode limiting your speed up to 6 mph. The Segways were designed to have fun and we have the MOST fun of any tour in town. Just look at the customer ratings!
Are Segway rentals available through Capital Segway?
Generally, no. Please join us on our See the City guided tour, and let your tour guide know at the end if you're still interested in a rental. Occasionally these requests can be accommodated, but only after you have already taken the guided tour.
What is the Gen2 Segway Personal Transporter (PT) i2?
