Chinatown Food Tasting & Cultural Walking Tour

Tour was an interesting combination of great food with great variety, along with culture and history. Hillary was an excellent tour guide.

This was an interesting tour that started with dim sum tasting and getting acquainted with the other members of the group, then history and architecture in the old part of Chinatown, a Buddhist temple, great peach iced tea at the tea shop, pointing out of a great bakery across the street, a walk to the new area of Chinatown across Archer, hearing more history and seeing various shops, tasting Szechwan at another restaurant, looking in an herbal medicine shop and a candy store, learning how to eat Peking duck correctly, and finishing at another bakery for egg tarts. It was fun and the food was very generous and tasty, many things which we would never order ourselves. Easy walking. Excellent Guides. Will do the other tours now!

We recently took the Chinatown tour and it was a super-fun learning experience and gave us the chance to taste some authentic Chinese food. Shane was our guide and is very knowledgeable and passionate about his job--and his rapid-fire delivery kept us on our toes! Even though we are locals, we had only been to Chinatown a couple of times before--but now that we know the lay of the land and how easy it is to park there, we'll be back soon. We have been on all three of the Chicago Planet food tours offered and all were great--that's why we keep coming back.

The sights, sounds and tastes of a place that seems so foreign but just around the corner in Chicago were thoroughly enjoyed. Our guide was super knowedgeable and made everything fun. Food was outstanding, and now I know the different regional cooking styles from China. A little pricey, but worth it!

Our tour guide was well versed in the history of Chinese migration. Learned a lot about the culinary differences in the regions. Enjoyed the neighborhood walk!

I have lived in Chicago for ten years and this tour showed me parts of Chinatown that I didn't know existed! This tour was a ton of fun! The food is delicious, I learned something, and I now have a couple of new restaurants that I will return to visit.

My husband and I took the Chinatown tour on Monday, July 18. Our tour guide, Shane, was absolutely great. He was personable, knowledgeable, and very friendly. We learned a great deal about traditional Chinese food and had our first taste of Dim Sum. We are now die hard Dim Sum fans and have found a local restaurant that serves it and have already gone there twice! We are also now much more knowledgeable about what Chinatown in Chicago has to offer and will be visiting there again soon. I highly recommend this tour.
