Loved this tour!! Guides were informative and was a very relaxed vibe. Great lunch stop - recommend the cheeseburgers!!!!! Places of interest were relevant, and especially enjoyed 5 Points. Would recommend this tour to any fan of hip hop - but would suggest that you order the package that includes the tshirts - we didn't thinking we could pick them up on the tour, but none were available.

Sad about the cancellations
Sun, Sep 20  12:30 PM kateswain Female 20-29 International Tourist(s) Family Without Children
I enjoyed this trip however we and other passengers were all very disappointed that the pioneers of hip hop tour was cancelled and we were sent on this. It is, I would assume, a completely different tour, I (we) weren't really interested in hearing about the likes and music of Ja Rule, 50 Cent etc. So it wasn't a really suitable replacement. I guess my negative opinion stems from the fact there was 9 people on our tour and 4 of them had booked for the other tour, so I felt maybe they should have asked us if we'd like to pay more to have this tour cancelled and take the other, or just have a smaller group (I would have!!) It was really meant to be the highlight of my overseas trip so I was pretty depressed about it. Having said that, Mikey D was a great host, we saw a lot of queens, and had a pretty good time. It was better than not going at all :)

The projects look a great place to hang out!!

September 2009 met with the legendary Mike D, and his crew and scooted over the bridge to Queens to hear his thoughts on Rap & Hip hop. There was 8 on the tour and I think we were the only couple who didnt know the history or most of the rappers he mentioned - by the end I knew my 'Ladies Love' from my Grandmaster Jay alright. Good fun, and Mikey D is so passionate - shame he only hit the UK for the first time this year though. We hit the Queensbury projects, 5 points graffitti, Hollis, Jamaica and then his favourite Barbers!! The soul food stop was great - the original Technics 1210s on display with all the platinum discs aswell. We had a great time Mike. You kept me laughing the whole tour (especially how the bad boy rapper was struggling with his allergies that day!!) Only downside was at times it seemed a bit stretched out and the lads werent sure what to do next or where to go. Apart from that, yeah it was worth the money and we have the memory of watching the man in action Freestyling away on the bus without any anti-histamines!! Paul & Claire Garstang, UK

If you ever take a tour take this one. The best inside look at this area of Hip-hop. Brings everything you know to life. Not only this but Mikey D is a very genuine guy who makes you feel like a friend and not just a customer. This tour is worth more than the cost!

A very good way to learn about the 2nd generation of rap from QUEENS... Lots of good tidbits of rappers from that region and connecting with the physical env. is a plus. Keep up the great job and sharing the knowledge of Hip Hop - Debra and team.....

A must for hip hop lovers

A look into a side of hip hop you don't get access to that easily. The tour was lead by Mikey D and his man Googles. We got to see sites all up and down Queens and heard stories that brought a flavour to the life of hip hop. Entertaining throughout with conversations, pop quizes and other insights. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone who loves hip hop and those who want to know more.

I planned this tour for my husband and myself while in the NYC for the Calzaghe vs. Jones Jr. fight. We both really love old skool hip hop and music as a whole. We weren't sure what to expect on the tour, but really, how could it not be cool when dealing with old skool roots and history. The group was small which was cool. We got to see the 5PTZ Wearhouse, LL's grandmothers house and stopming grounds along with many other artists. Mikey Dee and Googles were great tour guides, they even took us to Sybil's for some Jamacian food. Which was awsome, thanks guys. We recommend this tour for anyone, and will be back to check out the other tours. OLD SKOOL music is where is starts.

Better than the typical tours...

Hi everyone, My name is Mark and my girlfriend Cindy and I just visited NYC this past weekend. It was our first time there and we only had three days to cram a lot of stuff into that period. I knew that I wanted to see Times Square, the Statue, Empire State and the other typical landmarks of this great city. However what intrigued me the most was a old school hip hop tour that I heard Grandmaster Caz talking about on VH1's 100 Greatest Hip Hop Songs program. I am 40 years old and knew that anything that referred to "Old School" would be up my alley. So last Sunday we arrived at the designated spot which was in front of the Yankees Clubhouse and eventually got on our tour bus. Our tour guides were three Brothers who were in my same age group and had grew up in the area and had plenty of enthusiasm. The first two of these was a cat named Mikey D, who was an aspiring rapper and his brother (I apologize man because I have forgotten your name). The last was a man named Tony, a.k.a. "Googles" and he is the one which I became the most familiar with. It was a diverse collection of tourists with us being from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, others being from Germany and a couple from Houston, Texas. We started off on our tour and the guides said we were going to go through Queens to see the stomping grounds of legendary acts like RUN-DMC, A Tribe Called Quest, LL Cool J, 50 Cent, and Mobb Deep. As we made our way along we had some trouble with the sound system on the bus, but that was quickly forgotten about as our tour gudes started "freestyling" and "beat-boxing." Mikey D. was encouraging our participation by asking several questions pertaining to this genre of music and we found out tidbits of information that even a Old Schooler such as myself didn't know. Along our way we were given historical facts pertaining to each stop we made such as a huge warehouse that was presented to all grafitti artists to showcase their work to avoid painting on all of the subway trains. We got to see the actual barber shop that is currently the setting for the program "The Shop" on Sucker Free Sundays. As stated earlier we saw the childhood homes of the artists mentioned before and were allowed to stretch our legs in the Burrough of Queens. We enjoyed the tour immensely as we did our other tours but this one had a little edge to it because it was real and authentic. Compared to our night time tour of NYC which was hurried, this one was a little slower paced and allowed us to take in all that was Queens. So to whomever reads my review I would definitely recommend taking this tour, especially if you consider yourself Old School like myself. Peace from Big Mark!

Something Different
Sun, Oct 5, 08   12:30 PM merfmerfmerf Male 20-29 International Tourist(s) Group of Friends
I guarantee this will be unlike any other tourist activity NYC has to offer. In the 5 day l visited l did a range from Ground Zero to MOMA and while there's a place for everything this definetly adds something different. I'll be recommending it to my friends when they visit. On a negative tip these tours tend to be small groups of 3-5 people. Which is actually great. Infact l would have prefered it if it had been just our group. On a positive tip the main guide, Mickey D, was great. Thanks!
