Friendly knowledgeable guide. Good start with the video presentation at the Museum, and fun to walk around listening to music. Relaxed vibe. Good cd.

HIP-HOP SHOULD NEVER DIE

I really enjoyed thsi tour, it was everything I wanted it to be. My husband and I could not stop talking about this. This was something we decided to do for our 1 year anniversary of marriage and we were more than satisfied. A memoriable time. We recommed this to others, especially those who think they know about hip hop, but have no idea of the real thing...

Interesting, but not totally fitting description
Mon, Sep 3, 07   12:05 PM LJBeard5 Female 40-49 Combination Individual
Our guide was very knowledgeable & pointed out various landmarks, however, the tour was to have lasted two hours & only lasted one. Also, the ad mentions photo opportunities with legends of hip hop & the chance to purchase c.d.'s, etc. We never got either of these. I enjoyed the tour & would certainly recommend it to anyone who has an interest in hip hop, but doesn't necessarily know much about its history. However, our particular guide only brought us up to the late 1980's/early 1990's & didn't continue to discuss the evolution up to the present.

Just took a long Walk and Talked Pretty Much
Mon, Sep 3, 07   12:05 PM agantt Female Unspecified Local Family With Children
The one speaker gave lots of information but we just walked and walked and he just talked and talked. Pointing out some things as we walked was the extent of the tour. Nothing exciting happened we did not actually go inside any building or viewed any demonstrations. I was very disappointed and so was my 16 year old. We were expecting something exciting to happen. I would have rated this lower but the speaker seemed enthusiastic about hip hop. There just was no substance to the tour.

I'd enjoyed the Tour very much...I learned a lot about the Hip Hop culture and I met Grandmaster Caz :) It's very interesting for all Hip Hop fans and also for people who don't know that much about Hip Hop.

If you have any interest in music this tour is a must for you. Grandmaster Cas, our tour guide, was superb and to think he was at the forefront of this music revolution is amazing. This tour will take you to parts of New York you will not otherwise visit, and you will also get an excellent history lesson long the way. A fun informative tour that will probably be the highlight of your holiday. Also great for teenagers if they are into hip hop.

MY 18 year old son and I had a great time on the tour. Saw a lot of New York we would not have seen and learned a lot about the history and culture of hip hop. Grand Master Cruz was great - on only 1 hours sleep! The food at the luncheon stop in Harlem was also good. Would recommend highly.

Do it!

My 15-year-old son and I have a somewhat limited interest in hip hop per se, but we dig the culture, graffiti, origins of all black music styles, including jazz, old style R&B, soul, funk, etc. Our charming tour guide, 'Reggie Reg' from the legendary 'Crash Crew' (authentic Sugarhill Records act, known for their 1980 debut 'High Powered Rap' ) met our 8-strong walking group at an uptown museum, and walked us to deepest Harlem, via the Graffiti Wall of Fame, Apollo Theatre and Happyhouse Record Store Reggie spun the sounds on a portable speaker, including S Wonder, J Brown and Fatback Band and explained how hip hop came about through young R&B fans in the Bronx wanting to make their own noise, DJ-ing, scratching, rappping, taking it all the way to Grandmaster Flash, Sugarhill Gang, etc. By recording live DJs direct onto their boom boxes and recycling cassettes to the new young hip hop market, pioneers like the Crash Crew virtually invented the illegal download (!) and today's multi million dollar hip hop industry. Reggie finished the two hour walk on 125th Street - an area us whiteys would have avoided even five years ago - but no worries, it was as calm as Downtown Disney, with loads of great record and clothing stores, and for a thrilling remnder of the past, the Hotel Theresa building where Cab Calloway, Ray Charles, Sam Cooke and every black superstar stayed when they played the Apollo in the glory days. A dignified subway ride on the A-train took us back to midtown. A highly recommended tour to anyone who digs black music.
