Grandmaster Caz - A Legend

| Honestly - even if you do not have a mild interest in Hip Hop and are just visiting New York then you NEED to spend 4 hours of your trip on this tour - the history and cultural insight that you learn are what goes towards making New York the place that it is today. Forgot the modern day stereotypes, the tour which was led by Grandmaster Caz (to describe him as knowledgeable is a vast understatement, as he was there at the beginning of hip hop and so I guess he is the knowledge - the spark that created the fire back in the 1970s) tours Harlem, the Bronx and visits key locations that have constituted towards the hip hop "movement". Caz was charismatic and insightful and above all else enthusiastic to be sharing his experience with the group. You even get to sample some delightful Soul Food at lunch (I recommend the Jerk Chicken - spicy). On the coach, Caz's narrative is broken up with samples of groundbreaking records of the early era and various video clips - including one of the man himself with a massive afro and an over the top stage outfit - hilarious! ;-) There is so much more to it and overall I was just privledged to have been a part of the tour. Just make sure you listen carefully to where you can pick up some Sedgewick & Cedar clothing that Caz is now a part of. Book up this tour now! | ||||||

| The tour was excellent. It is amazing to think that you can sit there and tour these historical neighborhoods as the history of hip-hop is orally described to you from the perspective of a real hip hop pioneer. My tour was led by Curtis Blow and included everything from lunch with the man, to an improvisational turn at performing "The Brakes" live on the bus, to a question answer session. The group was small and manageable, but that will surely change as more people hear about this wonderful experience. Overall it was well organized, although a bit more discipline could help make time for a few more spots. The only complaint I would have is that we did not go to Brooklyn or Queens. They should consider lengthening the tour to include at least one of those sites as well as the sites we did cover. I would not mind another 1-1.5 hrs to see those sites, the possibilities are endless. I had a great time. It was the best tour I have ever been on and should be emulated in other cities that have historical or cultural significance that is ignored by the mainstream. | ||||||

| It was ok, not too bad but itwas just a little overview. I wouldn't recogment it to those who are already informed about Hip Hop history. In adition the tour should last longer in comparising to the price. Nevertheless the guide was nice. All in all, ok but not overwhelming. | ||||||

| Tour was great. Got to see a different side to New York then museeums and the more wll known attractions. The tour is light and easy and conducted in an excellent manner. The guide explains in an easy and understandable manner the history of hip hop and its emerging styles and cultures. I have recommended this tour to all my friends and i am definitely going to do it again next time i visit New York | ||||||

| Grandmaster Caz talked and sang with verve while we traveled from the upper West side all the way to the Bronx and back again and we wished we could've stayed a bit longer. To walk the streets and get more and more into the mood. Don't forget to check out the little record shop that sits next to the diner where we had our soul food. | ||||||

| I would have loved to get information about the more recent hip hop scene and I expected to see more places!!! For example where certain people have lived, places of shootings and so on. Instead your are only shown about 5 important places, whose importance dates back to the 70s and 80s. Also U get a lot of information about the life of the so called "pioneers" which was very boring after a while. Moreover the lunch took about 45 min of the 4 hours tour! All in all i was quite disappointed!!!!! | ||||||

| Even if you think you know everything there is to know about HipHop, you'll still learn from these guys. We were lucky enough to have Grandmaster Caz and Reggie Reg as our guides. We had such a good day stopping off at famous landmarks, learning all you need to know about the roots of Hip Hop and visiting Harlem and the Bronx. Live entertainment too .....the lot in four hours!!! | ||||||

| The tour was an authentic one with wonderful tour guides (what's up Caz and Reg!!) that kept the tour exciting and fun. I got to see parts of NY that I otherwise would not have gone to, and got to learn the history and stories behind where it all started. The four hours that the tour lasted were just not enough. Nobody wanted it to end. I highly recommend this tour to anyone that loves hip hop, wants to learn about hip hop, or anybody that just wants to have a good time! | ||||||

| Trip was nice, Reggie gave a good, short summary of Hip Hop history, and was very friendly and open for questions. We visited an exhibition in the Museum of the City of NY ans walked through Harlem, which was quite impressive. All in all I can recommend that tour, especially for those who are not familiar for Hip Hop culture at all and therefore want to have some insight. | ||||||

Interesting but a bit superficial four hours.

| I can recommend this tour, but I have to say that I already knew most of the things the tourguide told us before. It's interesting but maybe not deep enough into HipHop culture. So if you want to know about it, read a book. | ||||||

| This was a great highlight of our trip to NYC. We live in Oakland, CA and have been waiting for years to go on a tour like this one. Our Guide, Rahim, was very informative, personable, knowledgeable, and friendly. We gained much insight into the origins of Hip Hop and of Harlem in general. We highly recommend this tour and we'll definitely do another one on our next visit! | ||||||
