If you want to REALLY see New York...
Sat, Jun 23, 07   11:00 AM apowell Male 40-49 Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
This tour not only provides a good background on the history of hip hop, but also gives you a view of New York City beyond the usual paths taken in Manhattan. Grandmaster Caz was our guide, he's funny and obviously knows what he's talking about. Considering what an uninformative taxi ride would cost for the miles we were taken, what we got to see and experience, this tour is WELL worth the value!

Great Experience!

We are a couple from Austria and did the tour as part of our ten days New York stay. Grandmaster Caz really made an effort to convey what hip hop was about in the early days. So if you want to get an idea of the locations and people that created the hip hop culture in new york in the late 70 s this is probably he best tour you can get. You also get to see some parts of the city most other tours would not get you to. (Spanish Harlem, Bronx, the Lennox / 125th corner in harlem,...) We considered it an important part of the cities culture one should not miss. After all you cant ask Chagal what his paintings meant in the Museum of modern Art, but you can ask Grandmaster Caz. So get there and do so! Very entertaining and informative!

A BIG CHEAT
Sat, Jun 16, 07   11:00 AM mberon Male 20-29 International Tourist(s) Group of Friends
This activity was a big cheat. First, we stopped in a "graffiti mural" at East Harlem, which wasn't as good as the Long Island City one. Second stop was to make some basketball shots at Harlem, too. But the best was after, Grandmaster Caz said: "Let's go to the Bronx", and the Bronx which we saw was the Yankee Stadium title from the bridge, and then, back to Manhattan. I was stupefact, but nobody said nothing. The best thing too was we took a hat and chains around the neck by the staff, but at the end, we must return to them... (The hat was no Kangol, and the chains can be found at Chinatown...) The paradox is that the other excursion with Hush Tours was in the other extreme, was very dope and interesting.

All I can say is this was the best tour I have been on!!! Our guide was Grandmaster Caz....what more do I have to say??!!! Caz was cool, down to earth, entertaining and informative. Even with the hectic traffic and detours due to the Mets/Yank game we still enjoyed ourselves completely. Also helping guide was Madness....he was bananas!!! Loved every bit of it. Lunch set it off too...delicious!! This was a wonderful way to bring our vacation to an end!! Much Luv, Your Girls from Cali

I enjoy hip hop and learning about the roots of hip hop. This tour did provide information about the key players and the means in which hip hop evolved, but I found it to be a little unorganized and a means to promote Grandmaster Caz's comeback.

The tour was really well organised and even not being an expert in Hip Hop it gave a good insight on the start of it and its history. In addition it was fantastic to get some impression on the variety of Harlem. We really recommend the tour!

A GREAT EXPERIENCE
Sun, Jun 10, 07   12:00 PM mberon Unspecified 20-29 International Tourist(s) Group of Friends
This excursion was surprising, and very dope, for me. First, because I can see with my own eyes the Queensbridge projects, original place of rap artists like Nas, Mobb Deep, or Cormega. I could see too Jamaica and South Jamaica, borough of LL Cool J or Onyx, and Hollis, borough of Run DMC. In addition, I was the mural dedicated to Jam Master Jay in Queens. The surprise was too that the driver was: Mickey D, former component of the group Main Source in their second album: "F*** what you think", he remplaced to Large Professor in this album, he put songs very good in the car. The copilot was a man called Mark, or Marcus, I don't know the last name, and he knew many things unknown to the great audience of hip hop. With great gratefulness, Mario Berón Bruna

A True Guide to Real Hip-Hop
Sun, Jun 10, 07   12:00 PM grandmaster Unspecified 20-29 International Tourist(s) Individual
If you are a real Hip-Hop fan like myself then you have to check out this tour. The fact that most of the Hip-Hop ended coming from the borough of Queens places like Queenbridge, Hollis, Jamaica it ened up shaping the sound of Hip-Hop for years which makes this an essential tour. With Mikey D (Main Source) as your tour guide he takes you to places they don't advertise on those NY tourist guides. I was luckily enough to roll in Mikey's SUV which gave you a more real feel than being in a big tourist bus. I also got to check out the famous 'Rooney's' barber shop as seen in MTV' show 'The Shop'. As Mikey seems to know everyone he was definitley the right person to roll with. Massive respect to Mikey D, Mark and Debra. Si

A Real Tour of the Roots of Hip-Hop
Sat, Jun 9, 07   11:00 AM grandmaster Male 20-29 International Tourist(s) Individual
Being a fan of Hip-Hop from the early 80s to todays different sound this tour was a true experience of Hip-Hop culture which defined and still defines New York City. Travelling to the birthplace of Hip-Hop The Bronx as well as Harlem our tour guide 'Reggie Reg' gave all the info anyone who was unaware of what 'Hip-Hop culture' was all about. Knowing my Hip-Hop history it was great to visit The Graffiti Hall of Fame, Rucker Park and other places of Hip-Hop relevence which you wouldn't normally find on that New York tourist map!. Whether you are a Hip-Hop historian or a novice Hush tours can deliver the info and experience like no other. Massive shout out to Reggie Reg of The Crash Crew , Madness and of course Debra. Si

I've been all over the world and this was one of the most fun things I have participated in. Great guides, very informative, fun and a look inside a world that shows diversity makes us all better as a whole. I, and my nieces, had a great time and appreciate the professionalism and talent of the persons involved. I would recommend this activity to anyone, it was fun!

Overall, I thought the experience was well intentioned but I felt it came up short in a few ways. Our guide was very friendly and personable. It was great to have a member of a pioneering hiphop group, but I felt he could have benefited from some specific training in tour operation. He brought up a lot of interesting facts and stories but I thought his historical knowledge was a bit sprawling and patchy. The tour was really about the origins of hiphop more than anything, and not so much it's evolution. Basically we got as far as RUN DMC (which is really just the beginning), and stopped there. Also, the video at the beginning, while interesting did not relate to hiphop specifically. I think the video should be recommended to the tour group but should not take up a half hour of the tour. Great idea, many simple ways to make it alot better.

I had a fantastic time. Grand Master Caz was entertaining and gave us a great history lesson in the hip hop culture. We got to experience so many great neighborhoods while learning about hip hop. I enjoyed myself and would recommend this tour to all of my friends.

great intro to hip-hop
Sat, May 26, 07   11:00 AM jthavis Male 50-59 International Tourist(s) Individual
hip-hop 101 on the bus, passing landmarks and stopping off to see graffiti hall of fame, break dancing and other important spots. the stop in harlem is especially good (soul food restaurant, too). bronx was only a brief drive-thru, but i guess it's important to at least go there. what makes this tour good is that it's led by an early hip-hop artist, in this case grandmaster caz, who was very entertaining.

A good way to see some of the real New York
Sun, May 20, 07   12:10 PM Johncross Male 50-59 International Tourist(s) Other
This tour I would recommend. The guide was both knowledgeable and passionate about his subject. I saw parts of New York I would not have seen and learned some local history in the bargain. Make sure you are up for a good walk and you will enjoy this tour gauranteed. You must also try some soul food at the end. great !! thanks Reggie from Dad and Jon Boy
