I really enjoyed the tour. Most of the information was totally new to me but very interesting. This was a great tour and I recommend anyone visiting New York for the first time to check it out.

Great Tour just needs to pay attention to details

I thought the tour was fun and informative. My husband and I are huge Hip Hop fans so this was a great way to spend the afternoon. We did have a couple of suggestions to make the tour look more professional. The speaker box that was used could be update and of better quality, it kept blinking in and out. The explaination of hip hop was great but we would have like to hear and see more relevant facts regarding hip hop and its relevance to NYC. We thought that they could put the Hush Tour sign on an A-frame so it would be easier to display and take with them during the tour rather then trying to hook it up to the door (which was rolled up while were there) or hooked to a fence in the park. It would have been nice to be given some time at the graffity wall to take pictures rather then running after the group and having to miss the speakers remarks to take them. I realize the tour is regarding the history of rap starting with it's pioneers but I think it would be of value to show the connection of how those individuals influenced modern day rappers or show some connections through time, from one generation to the next. sort of a 6 degrees of seperation thing. Those are my suggestions. Thanks for a great day.

Excellent experience

I took my brother on this tour because we are both advocates of the hip-hop culture, and have enjoyed the majority of hip-hop music for many years. Grandmaster Caz was a great guide with an extensive knowledge of the culture's history. I had a really good time on the tour, and learned a lot about the inaugural generation of hip-hop that I had no idea lasted for as long as it did. The tour sustained an educational theme for hours about the growth of the culture in the 70's and before the mainstream appeal of rap music was relevant. I would recommend this tour to anyone that has a fascination with the roots of the culture beyond the rap music itself.

Getting a down-to-earth tour of the suburbs of NYC was just what I was looking for. I you want to get away from the regular tourist-machine and talk to real people that are passionate about what they do, you should try this tour.

Can be recommended!

Not only our children enjoyed the walk very much, even my wife and myself were very amused about the enthusiastic way our guide explained the early days of the Hip-Hop movement. It was a very enjoyable (and safe) way to get to know Harlem a little bit better as well.

Grand Master Caz, best hip hop historian in town!
Sat, Jun 13  11:00 AM csabas Female 40-49 Local Unspecified
We had a tour last Saturday and it was a real blast. Not so much about what you see, but about the stories Grand Master Caz told us during these 4 hours. He knows all from first hand, still remembers everything and can prove that he is still the best MC of his time. He is a great entertainer, very sincere (we were wondering why he was doing that tourist thing: guess he earns his living, but obviously he enjoys doing it , too). Best part: his rap in the bus, before the lunch in a Harlem cantina. Advice: Buy his disk during this stop. Peace, Carole

Hip Hop is a Beautiful Thing

Recommended For: If you like Hip Hop you will definately enjoy this tour - meaning: if you think you want to go, you will enjoy yourself. I've read all the books, heard the albums, seen the movies, but still learned much. Just meeting Grandmaster Caz was enough for me! (Tour guides can vary.) As a tour guide he was welcoming, funny, entertaining, and exciting. I even found the other tour goers interesting as most were from out of the country: Scotland, Kenya, Japan, Germany, London, etc. The food was good too. Hesitant Recommendation For: Locals - Being my first visit to NYC I especially enjoyed the drive with additional sights including the Apollo, Malcolm X Ave, and Yankee Stadium. But this MAY be redundant for someone who has seen it all already. Haters and perpetrators - I do believe enjoyment of this tour hinged on letting oneself enyoy the community of hip hop which means enjoying the tour guide and others on the tour. If you have a stick up your butt, this tour will not remove it for you.

This was a great tour filled with heart

My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed the hip hop tour. We were greeted warmly and the day proceeded from there. Rafim did two amazing "raps" that made it clear to me that hip hop is clearly poetry to a beat. The group was an interesting mix all fun to be with. We found the tour to be educational and just plain fun. Be prepared that a lot of the places that hip hop originated have changed hands through the years, but we were still given the information to allow us to understand hip hop culture from its origins. We recommend it highly.

Caz was dope...

The tour was great... Am not as deep in my knowledge as my husband and found it just as entertaining as he did! Grandmaster Caz was totally engaging, held the floor of the bus as it was his stage... Taking you through from the roots of hip hop (thank god no jiggy ish), and where it all began... The food wasnt as bad as a previous poster described, its a soul food buffet, take what you like, leave what you dont... Was dope to get a pic with Caz at the end as well, definitely one for the album!!!

mad props to GM Cas and Debra

What a great time! Totally worth the price! Grandmaster Cas was knowledgeable and entertaining. The trip highlighted the four pillars of hip hop, b-boying, MCing, DJing and graf art. I learned a lot about the origins of hip hop, took lots of pictures, learned basic b-dancin' moves, and even got a chance to show off some MC skills. Pros: lots of fun, interactive, educational, just the right length, lunch included Cons: don't take this tour if you have no interest in hip hop, but that should go without saying. It's not a general tour of NYC with an emphasis on hip hop. It's all about hip hop. Suggestions: CDs are available for sale, but it would be nice to have the Kangol hats for sale as well. Maybe throw in the plastic bling bling as part of the tour.

Excellent tour with a proper history of hip hop.
Sat, Jul 28, 07   11:00 AM colinmillar Male 30-39 International Tourist(s) Group of Friends
The tour was excellent. A faultless history lesson in New York history expertly and enthusiastically told by the legendary Grandmaster Caz sticking to the facts and telling it like it was. Slightly marred by the initial choice of music (nobody want to hear Puff Daddy/P-Diddy/Diddy or LL Cool J past his prime - sticking to the better, non-commercial stuff would have been a far better choice) and the selling of bootleg CDs at the end (especially as this happened directly after Grandmaster Caz's tale of getting denied royalties from Rapper's Delight - a touch hypocritical if you ask me). These minor gripes aside, this is highly recommended especaially if Grandmaster Caz is your guide on the day.

A Must Do!!!

My family and friends couldn't stop talking about the Hip Hop Tour. Grandmaster Caz and Raheem were funny, entertaining, insightful, and most of all good roll models for my children. We went to parts of New York that we would never had ventured to. They changed our views on Harlem and the Bronx. We learned about the history of hip-hop and have a better appreciation for it. I would recommend this tour to any family coming into New York. You will want to go out dancing after.

i am originally from NJ and now live with my wife and 3 sons in Nebraska and saw this on the internent when looking for things to do on our trip to New York. This ws one of the best things we had dome on our trip. Grandmaster Caz was great and very informative. The tour was exactly what I had hoped ot would be and more. I highly recommend this for anyone who would like to see sights throughout NY that you would normally not see and the background of Hip Hop. I opnly wish we could have taken another one of the tours they have as well. WELL WORTH IT!!!!!!!
