A in depth look at hip-hop beginnings and culture

| My sister (same age), myself, and my nephew (13) took this tour on May 12, 2007. We THOROUGHLY enjoyed it. We travel quite a bit and have taken many tours in many different cities, including other tours in New York. We were impressed with this tour and the Pioneer of our journey -- Grandmaster Caz. He provided musical history accompanied by relevant audio (at the aid of his assistant) through the speakers of the bus. Growing up in that error and in The Bronx gave me and my sister an advantage over the other passengers. We found ourselves playing name that tune in the first 4 seconds of each song played. GM Caz was passionate about hip-hop and making sure our group understood the importance of it, from its early beginnings to current day. My sister and I were born in Harlem and grew up in The Bronx. Telling my nephew about how it was for us growing up was not enough. Before this tour, you could actually see him roll his eyes when a sampled song came on the radio that we already knew, but an upcoming artist decided to rap on top of the old track. Hearing it from GM Caz made it relevant to him and now we finally have the credibility we deserve -- thanks GM Caz. I loved that the bus started in mid-town and went to Harlem and then The Bronx, and back. The stop off for lunch at Manna's was at the appropriate time. The timing of the entire trip was perfect. I would highly recommend it to anyone who has ever questioned the importance of hip-hop in our culture and lives. We will probably do this tour again on another trip to New York and take the Walk this Way tour in hopes of getting a different Pioneering Legend for his/her perspective. | ||||||

| The items given to us should have been ours to keep rather than having to give them back at the end of the tour. It would have been a nice gift as part of the tour. Also, the restaurant didn't accept credit cards, debit cards or checks....just cash. People should know this in advance so they could bring cash. We had just enough cash to eat a small lunch. If we would have know ahead of time we would have had more cash with us. | ||||||

| This tour was exactly what I needed from my first NY visit. Being that I'm from Los Angeles and grew up in Watts/Compton/South Central and being able to witness the growth of Hip Hop on the west coast, your tour was exactly what I need to balance out my experience. I would have never knew where to start looking had I tried to go and find these spots on my own. Props due and given for giving me a broader vision and deeper respect for how hip hop has grown from Sedgwick and Cedar. Your tour was the highlight of my visit. Peace. | I took my brother on this tour because we are both advocates of the hip-hop culture, and have enjoyed the majority of hip-hop music for many years. Grandmaster Caz was a great guide with an extensive knowledge of the culture's history. I had a really good time on the tour, and learned a lot about the inaugural generation of hip-hop that I had no idea lasted for as long as it did. The tour sustained an educational theme for hours about the growth of the culture in the 70's and before the mainstream appeal of rap music was relevant. I would recommend this tour to anyone that has a fascination with the roots of the culture beyond the rap music itself. | ||||||

| The tour was great! I learned a lot and I consider myself someone with a decent knowledge of hip-hop. Our tour guide was so into it all, it made the tour!! It was a great family outing and we now have a few extra bits of information about Hip Hop and New York. | ||||||

| We had a unique opportunity to spend time with and learn about the beginning of the Hip Hop Culture that has become just as important and world changing in the music industry as Rock and Roll and Jazz. To get the chance to have such a professional tour through a fasinating and culture-rich community is price-less. We felt very safe and fortunate to have someone well known on the streets and we felt welcomed. My daughters were very amazed and impressed with all the locals who spoke to Reggie Reg. They truly felt that we were with a legend! There is such a wealth of knowledge a traveler can absorb by this type of wonderful resource in a unique tour! I would recommend anyone that loves music, appreciated history or has children....to support this tour and enjoy!~ | ||||||

| First of all, the tour was great and I couldnt ask for a better guide than Grandmaster Caz. The fact that the tour was led by an ACTUAL hip hop pioneer adds the cherry on top of an already great bus tour, it really makes the tour what it is. Without knowing some of the background behind the spots that were visited, there would be nothing noteworthy to say, which is where Caz came into play not only with stories but with first hand knowledge. I would consider going back again even, but would have liked to see more places, but there's only so much time in one day! I actually felt at first that 4 hours might be a bit long, but when it got to the end, I felt we didnt have enough time! Maybe an alternate pioneer tour could be incorporated for those who want to go back. Aside from that, my only other recommendation is this, I would consider coming up with an alternate tour for hip-hop enthusiasts that gets more into detail and is a little more advanced for someone who is aleady well educated and versed on hip hop culture. The majority of the group on the tour seemed to not know much about hip hop at all, and much of the background given on the subject I already knew, which is fine, but I wanted to move past that somewhat and go deeper into some of the lesser known stories behind hip hop besides what is already known and accepted by people who have grown up and been hip hop oriented for a long time. Thanks, and AAAAAA++++ for the tour and its organizers | ||||||

| Very highly recommended for anybody that wants to know what Hiphop is really about. Reprsenting all the elements of Hiphop! Mad respect to the Pioneers and giving the time to represent what Queens Bridge/Hollis Queens has contributed to Hiphop. 5Pointz is an out of this world experience. When I go back to the NYC, I definitely need to hit up the Bronx tour! | ||||||

| I am in agreement with most all of the reviews but would like to stress how great this was for my 13, 15 and 20 year old boys. They thought it was "hella tight" and posted their pics on myspace right when we got back. The history was interesting and this is something to do that not everyone has heard about so it makes it even more special. Thanks for a great time! | ||||||

| We went on the Hip Hop Tour conducted by Grandmaster Caz on 3/31. Very informative and fun! I think what people may overlook about the tour is that is may give you an opportunity to see other parts of the city that you would overlook if you concentrated only on midtown. Also, the lunch place has really great food. Highly recommended | ||||||

| My teenage kids and I enjoyed this tour. The walking was a reasonable pace and we saw Harlem, heard the stories and the music. We really loved the stop at the park and seeing the graffiti work. It is amazing. Reggie was very interested in all of the group and spent extra time with us, showing us the music shop, a real soul food lunch and a real graffiti shop. I can say without hesitation that this tour is for everyone and the most memoriable experience of our vacation. | ||||||

| My husband, son and I all had a wonderful time on the hip hop tour. We all found it very educational and entertaining. My son is an aspiring rapper so he especially enjoyed it. I would recommend the tour to anyone who has an interest in music and it's history! Alan, Susan and Greg Joyce | ||||||
