With the tour kickking off with Grandmaster Caz, it could'nt get any better, seeing the sites and understanding the roots of Hip Hop, we all learned a very valuable lesson that day. ! Thank you very much for an insight on the music, culture, fassion and knowledge. Dj TCH - Melb Australia

Authentic experience

I highly recommend Hush Tours NYC, if you are looking for a guided cultural tour with a difference. If you have time, you may want to consider at least two tours. I booked this tour using the online booking system, as I am from Australia. Hush Tours is not the run of the mill guided tour. It is much more and you are bound to learn something new, even if you are an avid hip-hop fanatic and expert yourself. I found the company to be prepared, on time, upbeat and host Grandmaster Caz is a natural talent, who will ensure you are guided tour an interactive experience of his backyard, NYC. I toured in Aug 2009. It is a positive experience.

Hip Hop tour

Caz was great! We are long time fans of Hip hop from NY and knew much of the info already but still learned a lot and were very entertained. The tour description emphasizes "celebrity guides" so we had anticipated that we would be meeting Kurtis, Rahiem, Reggie or others as well. We loved the sites but wish we could have toured places inside too. The Apollo Theater; for example, was a cool stop but we couldn't see it well from inside the bus. While the lunch was fine, we would have preferred skipping it and having more actual hip hop tour time. The stop killed the momentum and was a distraction from the tour. Overall it was a really interesting tour though that we would reccomend and would definately take another Hush tour.

i am originally from NJ and now live with my wife and 3 sons in Nebraska and saw this on the internent when looking for things to do on our trip to New York. This ws one of the best things we had dome on our trip. Grandmaster Caz was great and very informative. The tour was exactly what I had hoped ot would be and more. I highly recommend this for anyone who would like to see sights throughout NY that you would normally not see and the background of Hip Hop. I opnly wish we could have taken another one of the tours they have as well. WELL WORTH IT!!!!!!!

Not worth the money

Well, I was really disappointed since the focus of the tour was so narrow and there was no information about political reasons that started Hip Hop. It was just a tour in a bus showing us the house where the first "hip hop party" took place and a short drive through Harlem to show us an area used in some old movies, but nothing about the real start of hip hop. So, in my opinion it was kind of a rip-off and nothing to really inform about the beginning of Hip Hop. Moreover, Caz just happened to be bragging about his involvement in the birth of Hip Hop and nothing more.

Worth every cent - A must if you will be in NYC

Grandmaster Cas is a great tour guide and Hip-Hop historian. My wife and I booked several tours while in New York, however, this Hip-Hop tour was by FAR the BEST!!!! I thoroughly enjoyed this tour, it should be a requirement for all who are interested in Hip-Hop. The city of New York has and continues to benefit from Hip-Hop. The least it can do is mark the historic sites which are visited during this tour. AWESOME! AWESOME and MORE AWESOME! If you are reading this and think that it may have been posted by someone who works for this tour, your are WRONG!!!!! I am a regular person who traveled from the South who experienced this fantastic tour. I have not had the chance to see the other tour guides in actions, I have witnessed Cas and he is excellent.

MAKE THIS A MUST IF YOU VISIT NEW YORK
Fri, Aug 7, 09   11:00 AM SMAZUMDER Female 30-39 International Tourist(s) Family Without Children
This tour was one of the highlights of our honeymoon in New York. Our tour guide, grand master Caz with his big personality and his legendary status within the realms of Hip hop made this tour interesting, fun and equally accessible to those with an interest in the music and those with little or no knowledge. The tour takes you through Harlem and the Bronx, both areas that have to be experienced if you want to get a real flavour of the city . Overall, this 4 hour tour is packed with historical information about hip hop with visits to significant sites, guided by a legend who shares his incredible memories and experiences of the birth of the music. It was a true priviledge to be in his company and we left feeling that it was the real deal. We would like to extend a big thanks to Hush tours for providing what has been an excellent experience.

We had a great time. We are a family of four. Two adults and a 22 and 16 year old. We all had a great time. We learned , we laughed, we ate and we took a lot of pictures. It is safe and worth the money. It is the next step beyond the tourist traps. Good Luck Trip taken 8-8-09

Excellent leader, Relaxed atmosphere

The guy (grandmastercash...or something) was a sort of celebrity in new york's hip hop world. He knew lots of rappers and lots of significant places and he was funy too! There was a nice and relaxed atmosphere in the bus and there was also some cool old school rap. The cons are: The bus was old and without air conditioning. They sold to many tickets so that there wasnt enough space for all of us. At the end of the tour we all stopped in a restaurant/take away......crowded, dirty and, because we were running out of time, we had to eat in the boiling hot bus! In the end the tour made a good impression...try it!

Basically Cas on a soapbox. If you already know what comprises Hip-Hop (style, grafitti, MC, and DJ) you'll be bored the first half of the tour. Make sure you eat breakfast because we didn't eat until 2:30 and the tour started at 11am. Definitely learned a lot about history and culture...great tour for kids and adults alike...I just wish someone had told me 1) this covers the BIRTH of hip-hop through 1981 (not clear on the web site), and 2) it's basically Grandmaster Cas telling his personal journey. It wouldn't have deterred me from going necessarily...I just might have chosen a different tour that featured another era I think.

Entertaining and informative

Despite a thunderstorm in the middle of our tour, our guide valiantly showed us a number of locations with entertaining anecdotes about the early days of hip hop. Now that I read about the history of hip hop, the places come alive in a different way.

This is the best tour I have ever been on; the rise of hip-hop delivered with great social/political context, and lots of fun surprises.
