Brilliant and fun day out

Not knowing much about the history of Hip Hop, I had to be persuaded to go on this tour. However, I have to say that it was the highlight of my great week in New York. Casanova Fly, our tour guide and member of Hip Hop history, is really brilliant: he knows his stuff (as well he should, being part of it) and on top of that, is a real entertainer. At one point on the tour, someone driving past recognised him, stopped his car, jumped out, embraced him and then explained that "this guy was the source" (presumably of Hip Hop). At first I thought that it had to be staged, but it seemed way too random to be so. I would go back on this tour any day of the week.

Having heard about the Hush Hip Hop Tours I had high expectations but the minute Grandmaster Caz stepped on the bus and we drove around Harlem and the Bronx these expectations were met, if not exceeded! Dope tour with great knowledge and a humble/friendly guide. Wish I was in town long enough to do the Queens Rappers Row tour... next time!!! Peace from Melbourne, Australia

Seeing where it all began with a legend of hip hop

Whether you're into hip hop or not this tour is a MUST on a trip to NYC, if you want to go beyond the coventional tourist stuff. We were taken around for four hours by one of the legends of the old skool. The one, the very only ... Grandmaster Caz. In English parlance this man is the "dog's bollocks". He's a brilliant guide and raconteur. Not only does Caz educate you about the music, the grafitti, the clothes and the moves, he also tells some pretty funny stories too. Go on this tour and go back to the roots of hip hop. Sedgwick and Cedar '73 is what it's all about.

I planned this tour for my husband and myself while in the NYC for the Calzaghe vs. Jones Jr. fight. We both really love old skool hip hop and music as a whole. We weren't sure what to expect on the tour, but really, how could it not be cool when dealing with old skool roots and history. The group was small which was cool. We got to see the 5PTZ Wearhouse, LL's grandmothers house and stopming grounds along with many other artists. Mikey Dee and Googles were great tour guides, they even took us to Sybil's for some Jamacian food. Which was awsome, thanks guys. We recommend this tour for anyone, and will be back to check out the other tours. OLD SKOOL music is where is starts.

I had a blast on this tour. It took me around NYC to places that I hadn't been, harlem and the bronx. Grandmaster Caz was an awesome guide, friendly and full of knowledge. We saw a b boy do some dancing for us, the graffiti hall of fame, the place of the first hip hop party, etc.

Way Surpassed My Expectations

I thought this tour would hit a few hip hop highlights, teach me a few things, but it went way beyond that. It renewed my love for NYC and the old school scene. Raheim from Grandmaster Flash had a lot of insight and wasn't afraid to get controversial. There was a whole lot of love on our tour bus -- the leaders totally encouraged the budding rapper and b-boy in our group to share their talents. This is a tour company with heart and a lot of respect for its customers. Whether you are a hip-hop know-it-all or just curious about a fundamental part of what makes this city great, you should go on this tour.

Rap is something you do. Hip Hop is something you live. This tour highlights and explorers the origins and history of this essential culture in a extremely thorough fashion. I would recommend it to any Hip Hop Head. Peace, B-Boy SikMik

Raheem was an excellent guide - he really knew his stuff, the boom box with "The Message" blaring out down the street was a nice touch. The tour was relaxed, but very informative and we learnt a lot about Harlem and the Bronx -so I would recommend this tour for anyone and not just Hip Hop heads! We were in NYC on our honeymoon and I have to say that this tour really was the icing on the cake! Ben and Rachel Allen Bristol UK

The guy who lead the tour on Friday, October 31 was a faded out hip hop star, he really didnot give much information on the subject. People on the bus seemed to know more about the subject then he did. He kept getting off the subject. He really needs to bone up on the subject. Aslo most people are not interested in his personal political opinions. He really didn't make too much sense. The raps he shared with us were good. But really I think he need to tell us moreabout the whole culture of HIP HOP. Tour was not worth the price.

Better than the typical tours...

Hi everyone, My name is Mark and my girlfriend Cindy and I just visited NYC this past weekend. It was our first time there and we only had three days to cram a lot of stuff into that period. I knew that I wanted to see Times Square, the Statue, Empire State and the other typical landmarks of this great city. However what intrigued me the most was a old school hip hop tour that I heard Grandmaster Caz talking about on VH1's 100 Greatest Hip Hop Songs program. I am 40 years old and knew that anything that referred to "Old School" would be up my alley. So last Sunday we arrived at the designated spot which was in front of the Yankees Clubhouse and eventually got on our tour bus. Our tour guides were three Brothers who were in my same age group and had grew up in the area and had plenty of enthusiasm. The first two of these was a cat named Mikey D, who was an aspiring rapper and his brother (I apologize man because I have forgotten your name). The last was a man named Tony, a.k.a. "Googles" and he is the one which I became the most familiar with. It was a diverse collection of tourists with us being from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, others being from Germany and a couple from Houston, Texas. We started off on our tour and the guides said we were going to go through Queens to see the stomping grounds of legendary acts like RUN-DMC, A Tribe Called Quest, LL Cool J, 50 Cent, and Mobb Deep. As we made our way along we had some trouble with the sound system on the bus, but that was quickly forgotten about as our tour gudes started "freestyling" and "beat-boxing." Mikey D. was encouraging our participation by asking several questions pertaining to this genre of music and we found out tidbits of information that even a Old Schooler such as myself didn't know. Along our way we were given historical facts pertaining to each stop we made such as a huge warehouse that was presented to all grafitti artists to showcase their work to avoid painting on all of the subway trains. We got to see the actual barber shop that is currently the setting for the program "The Shop" on Sucker Free Sundays. As stated earlier we saw the childhood homes of the artists mentioned before and were allowed to stretch our legs in the Burrough of Queens. We enjoyed the tour immensely as we did our other tours but this one had a little edge to it because it was real and authentic. Compared to our night time tour of NYC which was hurried, this one was a little slower paced and allowed us to take in all that was Queens. So to whomever reads my review I would definitely recommend taking this tour, especially if you consider yourself Old School like myself. Peace from Big Mark!

This was definitely a highlight of my week in New York. Our tour guide was Reggie Reg, who knew everything about Harlem, and I learned so much while walking around. I would say it's suitable even for those who don't love hip hop, just to get to know more about the area. And the $10 CD at the end is well worth it - excellent collection of old school tracks.
