GREAT TOUR

This was a wonderful tour. It is a must if you are planning a trip in the area. We had the benefit of having a smaller group - so the tour was very personal and we were able to really have a unique experience. The person that took us on tour was VERY knowledgeable and made sure we have an opportunity to really appreciate the culture and history of hiphop. The lunch buffet was outstanding and really made the experience significant. Don't hesitiate to take this tour, it is the real thing -- it will be one of the most memorable experiences in New York .

I work in NYC and booked this tour when my 20-year old son came to visit. My son likes all music genres but is a big fan of hip hop music. He loved the tour - I think it was the high point of his trip to New York. I went along for the ride, but thoroughly enjoyed the venues, history and music. The 4-hour tour went by quickly. Grand Master Caz (Cold Crush Brothers) and Mighty Mike Cee (Fearless Four) were outstanding guides and did a great job with a very diverse tour group. I enthusiastically recommend this tour if you want to learn more about hip hop and the City neighborhoods where the culture arose.

Knew a fair bit about hip-hop's origins before we went on this tour, but found out ALOT more! Grandmaster Caz is a superb host, filled with knowledge and alot of humour and happy to take questions at any point... It's amazing to see the many spots that you just wouldn't be able to find ithout a dedicated tour-guide pointing them out. Seeing the hall of fame, Spanish Harlem, Malcolm X's Mosque #7, the Apollo and so on was amazing. RECOMMENDED!

The Hip Hop Tour was excellent and I recommend it to anyone that will be making a trip to New York. The tour provided you with an indebt history of not only Hip Hop, but the Black History of New York. Caz, our tour guide was excellent and enthusiastic. The Hip Hop tour was one of the major highlights of my trip. The additional members of my group stated that they were glad that I chose this tour as one of our activities. We were also very lucky, because we were able, to tour the Apollo, which was not on our schedule, and there was also a gentlemen on the tour who conducts, some of the major tours of New York. Therefore we received some additional information on landmarks, great places to shop, and locations on where to buy discount Broadway tickets. I felt like for the money we paid, we received three tours in one, and it was well worth the money. The only negative thing that I would say about the tour is lunch. I think that the website should state, that, "Although we do stop for lunch it is not included in the tour, and you must have cash." Besides lunch, everything was great. Thank You :)

The tour was excellent. It is amazing to think that you can sit there and tour these historical neighborhoods as the history of hip-hop is orally described to you from the perspective of a real hip hop pioneer. My tour was led by Curtis Blow and included everything from lunch with the man, to an improvisational turn at performing "The Brakes" live on the bus, to a question answer session. The group was small and manageable, but that will surely change as more people hear about this wonderful experience. Overall it was well organized, although a bit more discipline could help make time for a few more spots. The only complaint I would have is that we did not go to Brooklyn or Queens. They should consider lengthening the tour to include at least one of those sites as well as the sites we did cover. I would not mind another 1-1.5 hrs to see those sites, the possibilities are endless. I had a great time. It was the best tour I have ever been on and should be emulated in other cities that have historical or cultural significance that is ignored by the mainstream.

Fun and different tour where I learned alot about Hip Hop culture and shared the experience with my 19 yr. old son. It was interesting to see and hear about other parts of New York since my tourist experiences have been pretty much limited to Manhatten - theatre, dance, restaurants and shopping. Grand Master Caz was charming, engaging and informative. Even the range of diversity of the other tour goers was interesting. I thought the tour was well organized although could maybe be compressed into a little shorter time span, but maybe not considering the miles covered. I would particularly recommend this tour to families with children ages 12 and older since it is more challenging to find activites that both parents and teenagers can enjoy together. Lunch was great!

Worshiping at the Hip Hop Church was a wonderful experience. We were welcomed with open arms and had an opportunity to worship in a new way. This church has a great outreach to their community and their energy is infectious. I come to New York often but had never visited this church before. I am glad that I happened upon this opportunity. I will definitely go back during succeeding trips. Debra and Donovan, our escorts, were gracious and helpful. My daughter and I had a great evening !

The guy (grandmastercash...or something) was a sort of celebrity in new york's hip hop world. He knew lots of rappers and lots of significant places and he was funy too! There was a nice and relaxed atmosphere in the bus and there was also some cool old school rap. The cons are: The bus was old and without air conditioning. They sold to many tickets so that there wasnt enough space for all of us. At the end of the tour we all stopped in a restaurant/take away......crowded, dirty and, because we were running out of time, we had to eat in the boiling hot bus! In the end the tour made a good impression...try it!

Better than the typical tours...

Hi everyone, My name is Mark and my girlfriend Cindy and I just visited NYC this past weekend. It was our first time there and we only had three days to cram a lot of stuff into that period. I knew that I wanted to see Times Square, the Statue, Empire State and the other typical landmarks of this great city. However what intrigued me the most was a old school hip hop tour that I heard Grandmaster Caz talking about on VH1's 100 Greatest Hip Hop Songs program. I am 40 years old and knew that anything that referred to "Old School" would be up my alley. So last Sunday we arrived at the designated spot which was in front of the Yankees Clubhouse and eventually got on our tour bus. Our tour guides were three Brothers who were in my same age group and had grew up in the area and had plenty of enthusiasm. The first two of these was a cat named Mikey D, who was an aspiring rapper and his brother (I apologize man because I have forgotten your name). The last was a man named Tony, a.k.a. "Googles" and he is the one which I became the most familiar with. It was a diverse collection of tourists with us being from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, others being from Germany and a couple from Houston, Texas. We started off on our tour and the guides said we were going to go through Queens to see the stomping grounds of legendary acts like RUN-DMC, A Tribe Called Quest, LL Cool J, 50 Cent, and Mobb Deep. As we made our way along we had some trouble with the sound system on the bus, but that was quickly forgotten about as our tour gudes started "freestyling" and "beat-boxing." Mikey D. was encouraging our participation by asking several questions pertaining to this genre of music and we found out tidbits of information that even a Old Schooler such as myself didn't know. Along our way we were given historical facts pertaining to each stop we made such as a huge warehouse that was presented to all grafitti artists to showcase their work to avoid painting on all of the subway trains. We got to see the actual barber shop that is currently the setting for the program "The Shop" on Sucker Free Sundays. As stated earlier we saw the childhood homes of the artists mentioned before and were allowed to stretch our legs in the Burrough of Queens. We enjoyed the tour immensely as we did our other tours but this one had a little edge to it because it was real and authentic. Compared to our night time tour of NYC which was hurried, this one was a little slower paced and allowed us to take in all that was Queens. So to whomever reads my review I would definitely recommend taking this tour, especially if you consider yourself Old School like myself. Peace from Big Mark!
