Memorable tour

What can I say...this tour was just completely excellent. Grandmaster Caz was so engaging, so personable, so knowledgable. The other people working on the tour were great too. To see the projects and other landmarks that I had previously only seen in hip-hop videos...incredible. The soul food lunch was delicious. Another thing about this tour is you see a lot of cool things besides hip-hop landmarks during the bus ride, like Central Park, Apollo Theatre, etc. The history of Harlem was undeniable. Anyway, to wrap up, I would highly recommend this tour to anyone. Interesting, comfortable, entertaining...this tour had it all.

This tour is the most interesting tour I ever experienced. I'm really interested in the hiphopculture en Grandmaster and his pioneers tell you all you wanna know. The graffity wall of fame is really spectacular and what I liked the most was that it was interesting for any typ of person, even if you don't like hiphop at all. People, you gotta experience this. We thought this was an amazing tour. It was a great introduction for us to New York, the birthplace of Hip Hop. Grandmaster Caz knew what he was talking about because he was there, he lived it. If you want the low down on the birth of Hip Hop in New York, this is the tour to check out. Big thanks to Caz and Debra for making this an awesome tour!

Crown jewels

No matter which way you cut it, the figures don't lie. The culture of hip-hop is now a global phenomenon on many levels including socially and economically. Finally, a tour has been put together to not only acknowledge the stats, but to credit those responsible. I may be way off base, but I think the tour should have local [if not national] government support. The popularity of the tour will undoubtedly grow in the coming years, by which point it will have possibly been hijacked by a corporation keen to promote his/her own personal cause. I know it's easy for me to say as an 'outsider', but the fact remains, hip hop culture has, and continues to offer many positives to people from all walks of life, races and ages. In the long tradition of African-American expression, it will surely go down in history and the 'pioneers' should therefore be held in as much reverence as those from the traditions of Blues, Jazz and Soul. Additionally, the tour should become the centrepiece of a wider series of regularly scheduled events and activities that can serve as a living record of the culture for both locals and visitors from across the world. I was amongst the first of the many European followers of hip hop in the early eighties and prompted by pioneers like Dondi, Lee and Futura became a passionate and dedicated graffiti artist. I have since used my talents and skills to inform much of the work I do now both as an artist and professional designer. I'm reluctant to criticise the tour because of the many, many positives. I will therefore, end by saying that with continued support, community participation and of course PR and advertising, the tour and of course the culture, will eventually become recognised as a jewel in New York's crown.

This tour was great! Grandmaster Caz was very entertaining and informative. My homeboy and I planned for months to go on this tour when in NYC, and we were not disappointed. They took us to some very memoriable spots, and I took some great pictures at the Graffiti Hall of Fame. The lunch spot was off the hook. It was right up the street from the world famous Appollo, and it was a buffet. I am a vegetarian, and found plenty there to eat. Very tasty. Next time I go to NYC, I'm taking the subway to that restauraunt. Even if someone knows NOTHING about hip hop, I believe they would completely enjoy this tour. To see pictures of this tour, look for my New York adventure blog on my website: www.southeasthiphop.org on the links page. Also make sure you tune into www.wutkradio.com every Saturday Night for the Edutainment Hip Hop Show. Aight.

Absolutely recommend this tour to any Hip Hop fan. I'm an old school head / golden era b-boy. I had always dreamed of visiting New York for the simple fact that to me, a California native, the Bronx is like Hip Hop Mecca. Every B-boy has to make a pilgrimage. When I read about the Zerve tour, I knew that this was perfect for me. I would have never known how to see the places that made up the history of Hip Hop. This tour was exactly what I had hoped it would be. I even got to rub the Tree of Hope at the Apollo! Our host was Raheem from Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five...so dope! He was more than willing to answer all of my questions and discuss all things Hip Hop with me at great lengths. It was definately the highlight of my New York vacation. For anyone considering taking the tour, do it! DJ Gummo, Garden Grove, CA

Educational and informative

Raheim was very down to earth and not uptight like most of the pioneers from our era (I'm from that era too). It seems like every time I listen to one of the old school dudes, they are very hostile and have nothing good to say about the new generation. Personally, I have nothing good to say about the new generation either with exception to a few artists and I definitely understand where they come from with the hostility and all but, there's better ways to educate the youth and this tour is one of them. Raheim was cool (tight shirt and all...ha,ha). He provided us with some cool background of the origins of hip hop and was very informative about some of the locations, characters and situations that they had to deal with in order to make it happen. My only complaint is that he seemed to space out from time to time but thanks to the lady that was with him....she kept things rolling when he had his lapses. Other than that, he had good knowledge of what happened....just needed to work on the delivery a bit. My kids and myself had a good time though and the lunch was great. I definitely recommend it.

An Awesome Pilgrimage to the home of Hip-Hop

From Arriving in New York on Thursday I had been looking forward to the Saturday for the Hip-Hop tour and it didn't dissappoint. From being a die hard fan of the music and culture this was my highlight. Going back to the birth place of Hip-Hop was only right and with hush tours they know where to take you. With a legend like Kurtis Blow leading the tour and Heading down to the Boogie Down Bronx and seeing where it all started was a real experience. Heading up to Harlem 125th St and Malcolm X Blvd & seeing the 'Real New York' is a must. With Kurtis knowing everyone in Harlem we were able to go into the Appollo Theater and have our photo's taken in the world famous theater. Cheers Kurtis!!. Not forgetting an all you can eat Soul Food Lunch. We also headed down to the world famous Rucker Park. All in all this is a great tour. And not many tour companies would still let you on the tour even though you had accidentally booked for the next week by mistake!!( always double check the date take it from me!!) So if your in New York and love Hip-Hop check this tour out!!! Simon Weir aka DJ Si

Grandmaster Caz-Master Storyteller
Sat, Aug 6, 05   11:00 AM lathrop4 Male 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
My son is an aspiring hip hop DJ and he has brought this music form to me by our attending concerts and other hip hop related events the past few years. So participating in the Hip Hop Tour in NYC was a "must see" for him and turned out to be one of the best things we did during our visit. The tour was well run and well organized and led by a very gifted tour guide/storyteller/legend of hip hop Grandmaster Caz. Caz brought the story of the history of hip hop to life with his enthusiasm, humor and engaging rapport with the participants. The tour itself brought us to parts of NY that few tourist visit- Harlem, Spanish Harlem, the Bronx, but it was Caz' relaying of the importance of each area to the creation of the hip hop culture that made visiting these sites relevant and enjoyable. Grandmaster Caz emphatically made it known to the group that hip hop is alive on the streets of NYC, and demonstrated that when we made an impromptu stop to watch and cheer on a group of break dancers near Central Park. As we were heading back near the end of the tour, Caz was rapping and had all of us into it- clapping and moving to the beat and his words. We pulled up alongside a city bus and an older woman could not believe what she was seeing and hearing on the tour bus next to her- eventually smiling and waving her approval. Don't hesitate to take part in this unique New York experience.

Honest introduction to the roots of Hip Hop
Sat, Jul 30, 05   11:00 AM ronniej Male 30-39 International Tourist(s) Individual
For those of us who are too young to know (and that should include most of the people interested in the Hip Hop culture today) the roots of Hip Hop and how it came about this is an exciting tour. Personally, I would have liked to know more about the pioneering Graffiti artists and the environment that spurred them. Nevertheless this tour is highly enjoyable for anyone who ever wanted to know anything about the infancy of Hip Hop and what it was like back in the days ....

The tour was excellent, the amount of knowledge and insiders information the tour guides (Kurtis Blow and the Crash Crew) could provide is unparalleled to any tour I've ever done in the US! We saw a lot of the great historic hip hop sights NYC has to offer and the tour was well balanced: It gave enough insight into the culture to understand how it must've been like in the old days, we made a couple of interesting stops at famous locations which made the knowledge touchable and last but not least we ate chicken with great rap legends :-) . If you repect hip hop (or even cultures in general) you'll find this tour amazing, Aias

My family and I really enjoyed the Hush Tour experience. It was a must for those who think they know about the origins of Hip Hop, especially the young ones. Rahiem was mad cool and insightful. Get the real meaning and feel of Hip Hop and be ready to be a real Hip Hop head because you have to know and embrace where it started to fully understand Hip Hop! WORD!!!!
