More Stories than Sites

I really liked the tour. Being guided through some of the most important places in hiphop history by one of its first minute participants was certainly an experience not to be missed. I appreciated the stories and the vast knowledge and personal experiences they were based on. Grandmaster Caz entertained us well, and I am sure we all learned a lot. However, the real tour was over after 2 1/2 hours. Although lunch was excellent, I wished we would have visited a few more places - I am sure there are more than the ones we have seen. Overall, the concept and its realization worked very much to my satisfaction, and I would recommend going on the tour.

A in depth look at hip-hop beginnings and culture

My sister (same age), myself, and my nephew (13) took this tour on May 12, 2007. We THOROUGHLY enjoyed it. We travel quite a bit and have taken many tours in many different cities, including other tours in New York. We were impressed with this tour and the Pioneer of our journey -- Grandmaster Caz. He provided musical history accompanied by relevant audio (at the aid of his assistant) through the speakers of the bus. Growing up in that error and in The Bronx gave me and my sister an advantage over the other passengers. We found ourselves playing name that tune in the first 4 seconds of each song played. GM Caz was passionate about hip-hop and making sure our group understood the importance of it, from its early beginnings to current day. My sister and I were born in Harlem and grew up in The Bronx. Telling my nephew about how it was for us growing up was not enough. Before this tour, you could actually see him roll his eyes when a sampled song came on the radio that we already knew, but an upcoming artist decided to rap on top of the old track. Hearing it from GM Caz made it relevant to him and now we finally have the credibility we deserve -- thanks GM Caz. I loved that the bus started in mid-town and went to Harlem and then The Bronx, and back. The stop off for lunch at Manna's was at the appropriate time. The timing of the entire trip was perfect. I would highly recommend it to anyone who has ever questioned the importance of hip-hop in our culture and lives. We will probably do this tour again on another trip to New York and take the Walk this Way tour in hopes of getting a different Pioneering Legend for his/her perspective.

The tour UNLIKE any other!

My girlfriend (she is not a huge hip hop fan) and I attended the Harlem Walk it Out Hip Hop Tour. Our tour guide was Reggie Reg of the Crash Crew. He was so nice and knowledgeable. We really appreciated his outlook and the hands on approach the tour had. Nothing beats actually walking through Harlem and taking in all of the sights, sounds and smells. Be sure to have a lot of questions of your own to ask in order to really get the most of out of Reggie Reg. This tour is very much alive and interactive and is best suited for those who have don't have all the answers. My girlfriend came away with a definite deeper understanding of why I love to pump my hip hop loud now. We saw many historical areas that, while not specific to hip hop, were of great interest to me regarding Harlems history. We passed by many street vendors and I picked up a fantastic t-shirt featuring the Notrious B.I.G. off one of the street vendors. We wwnt into a record store as well where I would have liked to buy a few things. My point is that you should carry a little extra money if you want to buy anything during the tour. Of course another highlight was the Soul Food lunch we had. I am telling you that if you come hungry you will leave stuffed. The food was great and the people in the restaurant were very nice. All in all a great one of a kind tour that I want to encourage everyone to go on. I also purchased the CD from Hush Tours when I purchased the tickets and Reggie Reg brought it for me. I highly recommend this CD as it contains many of the hits of early hip hop. If you do not have an extensive collection of hip hop classics then you should for sure spend the 12 bucks and get this bad boy. Of course it also helps take me back to 106 and Park in Harlem everytime I pop it in my cars cd player! Thanks again to Reggie Reg and everyone at Hush Tours!

Respect the old school, where it came from. NY

It was awesome. Caz a true legend in the game, much respect, keep on represent NY, Bronx that is my defenition off hip hop as a 35 year old male from Copenhagen, Denmark. This culture has been my great joy in life since 1985, i was 13 years old when i for the first time on danish TV saw the acrobatic dance from the streets of NY. Since that i was hooked. Though I am getting older i still go to jams, concerts and sometimes on a club called Hip Hop Kontoret (The Hip Hop office). This culture has giving me so much, and are much more than MTV. I can only recommend Hush tours, even iff you are not interested in the culture of Hip Hop, it is still a big history off New York. Hope to come back soon. I am out. NaS is here in Copenhagen 31. may 2007, and over here in europe we are going to show him Hip Hop is not dead, she is here to stay. Hell yeah!!!

Pros: - Grandmaster Caz really knows what he's talking about - Caz brings you back in the late 70ies when all began - You'll get an impression why and how they started to create their own thing called hiphop - You'll get out of Manhattan, into Harlem and Bronx - You'll get to know the real story behind the Sugarhill Gang - You'll spend a nice afternoon worth every single dime you spent Cons: - You move around and see many places, but of course it's not the same like when you're visiting old Egypt. New York changed in the last years. You'll see graffitys but of course you won't see the original ones. - You don't go to deep into the real Bronx Once again, it's been a great tour, we enjoyed every single minute!! Regards from Switzerland Rolf and Barbara

Everyone tell's you all the things you have to do when going to NYC. Well, this is one of them it's just a shame not many people know about it! The tour was superb, informative and entertaining and relevant to both hip-hop fanatics and novices alike. Grandmaster Caz was quality from start to finish. We heard some great stories, had some great food, saw some great sites and were lucky enough to witness Caz perform first hand! If you want to do something completely different from the usual tourist stuff then make sure you do this!!!

The items given to us should have been ours to keep rather than having to give them back at the end of the tour. It would have been a nice gift as part of the tour. Also, the restaurant didn't accept credit cards, debit cards or checks....just cash. People should know this in advance so they could bring cash. We had just enough cash to eat a small lunch. If we would have know ahead of time we would have had more cash with us.

Quite simply the highlight of me and DJ Prin-ce's four day visit to NYC from the UK. It surpassed my expectations in terms of the depth of knowledge and love for the roots of Hip Hop from the Hush Tours team, but especially the guide Grandmaster Caz. I thought I knew something about Hip Hop, but soon realised that I didn't know a lot...and still have a lot to learn. Quite simply, this Hip Hop tour is an essential part of your visit to NYC regardless of whether you are into Hip Hop culture or not. Respect to the four elements of Hip Hop...Peace! Dope Tour! Will do it again when I come back to NY

This tour was exactly what I needed from my first NY visit. Being that I'm from Los Angeles and grew up in Watts/Compton/South Central and being able to witness the growth of Hip Hop on the west coast, your tour was exactly what I need to balance out my experience. I would have never knew where to start looking had I tried to go and find these spots on my own. Props due and given for giving me a broader vision and deeper respect for how hip hop has grown from Sedgwick and Cedar. Your tour was the highlight of my visit. Peace. I took my brother on this tour because we are both advocates of the hip-hop culture, and have enjoyed the majority of hip-hop music for many years. Grandmaster Caz was a great guide with an extensive knowledge of the culture's history. I had a really good time on the tour, and learned a lot about the inaugural generation of hip-hop that I had no idea lasted for as long as it did. The tour sustained an educational theme for hours about the growth of the culture in the 70's and before the mainstream appeal of rap music was relevant. I would recommend this tour to anyone that has a fascination with the roots of the culture beyond the rap music itself.
