BIG UPS TO HIP HOP WHAT WHAT!!!

OMG!! I absolutely loved it. I have been on MANY NYC tours and this was completely different. It was interesting, fun, interactive and educational. I currently live in Brooklyn and love when I have opportunities to see other parts of the city. It was a great experience and I would highly recommend it to hip-hop lovers and people who just want an exciting/different experience in NYC. All of the landmarks were historical and the Graffiti Wall of Fame was amazing!! Grandmaster Caz was the guide and what a lucky woman I was to have a forefather of Hip-Hop giving me a tour and history lesson. He was VERY funny and honest. And now I can't stop seeing him on every show and documentary of hip hop....He is even my MySpace picture right now :)

A most informative tour with and excellent tour guide, Yo Caz! Highly recommended to anyone who thought they knew everything about Hip Hop, you may have seen the documentries and read the mags and books but to be able to see it all in person is the total experience!!

An experience for the True Hip Hop Fan

What an amazing experience to be part of the congregation at the Hip Hop Church. Debra very kindly escorted me herself, and introduced me to Kurtis Blow on arrival. The night was full of energy, and wonderful entertainment. I almost forgot I was in a church! The Pastor has created a great thing, and I hope it continues to be as strong as it is, with whoever replaces him. I was made to feel very welcome, and enjoyed taking part in the singing and dancing in the pews. An experience I will always remember fondly, and something I will never experience anywhere else!

Knew a fair bit about hip-hop's origins before we went on this tour, but found out ALOT more! Grandmaster Caz is a superb host, filled with knowledge and alot of humour and happy to take questions at any point... It's amazing to see the many spots that you just wouldn't be able to find ithout a dedicated tour-guide pointing them out. Seeing the hall of fame, Spanish Harlem, Malcolm X's Mosque #7, the Apollo and so on was amazing. RECOMMENDED!

Important tour - Highpoint of my first trip to NYC
Sun, Aug 20, 06   1:10 PM ahall3 Female 30-39 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
Hip Hop is a rich culture and social movement that has sprung from the streets of NY and exploded into a global phenomenon. Hip Hop is a positive movement that gave an identity and voice to those who previously had no voice in our culture. It's important to understand the history of Hip Hop and ALL the facets of Hip Hop, not just the commercial versions seen on TV or heard on the radio. Who better to learn from than one of the pioneering groups, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five. Rahiem hosted our tour and he was amazing. I could have talked to him for hours. He has lived Hip Hop and seen it flower and change over the years. If you get Rahiem as your tour guide, LISTEN TO HIM, he has some really thought provoking ideas that I largely agreed with. He is a teacher who is willing to share more about the culture than just the sites on the tour. Take advantage of his time and learn as much as you can. As you walk through the streets of Harlem, use all your senses to take in the beauty and culture of this neighborhood. It's well worth the $25 ticket price...the best part of my 6 day trip.

Caz was dope...
Sat, Aug 19, 06   11:00 AM corriebray Female 20-29 International Tourist(s) Couple on a Date
The tour was great... Am not as deep in my knowledge as my husband and found it just as entertaining as he did! Grandmaster Caz was totally engaging, held the floor of the bus as it was his stage... Taking you through from the roots of hip hop (thank god no jiggy ish), and where it all began... The food wasnt as bad as a previous poster described, its a soul food buffet, take what you like, leave what you dont... Was dope to get a pic with Caz at the end as well, definitely one for the album!!!

Our Hushtour was the highlight of our NYC visit.

First, we were very happy that the Hushtour people found an alternate tour guide on the same day our guide was ill. Our alternate guide was Reggie Reg from the Crash Crew who experienced and knew everything about the early hip hop days and personally knew most of the other people who are the hip hop pioneers (as well as half the people we met on the street!). He was very kind to us, directed comments to all of us, asked us questions about what we already knew, etc. We walked from 106th street up to 125th street with the narrative going non stop about the chronology of hip hop events starting back in the 70's. When the tour was over, Reggie Reg helped us figure out our transportation back and personally escorted us there. My 18 year old daughter was loving it. Lots of opportunities for great pics too. Recommended highly.

Great experience for Hip Hop enthusiasts

We really enjoyed the tour. It was nice to hear more detail about the history of Hip Hop and how Harlem contributed to its creation. Raheim was very knowledgeable about the history of the area and the elements of Hip Hop. He made everyone feel comfortable as the tour progressed. Just as a suggestion, it would be nice to have a way for the tour guide to project his voice. We were a group of only 7, but will all the traffice on the streets, it was sometimes difficult to hear his remarks. We would definitely encourage others to participate in the tours, if visiting NYC. Thanks, Kyle, Kim and Dasja

Lot's of Fun
Sat, Jul 29, 06   11:00 AM scatejud Female 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Group of Friends
We had a blast. I would recommend that the person waiting for us at the p/u spot have a printed sign or badge on with the tour name. When we got to the spot we didn't know if we were at the right place and approach a couple people before we got to the right person. Also, our tour was on 7/1/06. I had my confirmation but was not on the list. There was no problem we were welcomed on the tour. The information was very informative and the time on the bus was filled with music, fun, and hip hop trivia. The stops were interesting. We had a problem getting to the Bronx due to a baseball game. Prior planning could have allowed for another route to be taken. We spend a lot of time sitting in traffic. It was also a little disappointing that we had to return the "bling bling". It would have been a nice souvenir. The food was good and allowed for the foreigners to experience "soul food". Keep up the good work. I would recommend the tour to others that visit NY.

I was lucky enough to do this walk tour with my teenage daughters. Although it was a very hot day we managed to enjoy every minute of it. Our guide was the well known and reputable Rahim who has been a legend in hiphop for many years. He was informative , friendly and humourous. The sun was beating down and we sweated our way through the amazing streets of Harlem, hanging off Rahims' every word. I was surprised that their was so much history and information. We had so much fun. The only thing we would have liked to have seen was a display of hiphop dancers. We know that this is only one aspect, but it would have finished the tour perfectly. Rahim was both professional and interesting. Great tour for the whole family. However I would advise you to put on your walking shoes and be prepared to walk for one and a half hours.

Worshiping at the Hip Hop Church was a wonderful experience. We were welcomed with open arms and had an opportunity to worship in a new way. This church has a great outreach to their community and their energy is infectious. I come to New York often but had never visited this church before. I am glad that I happened upon this opportunity. I will definitely go back during succeeding trips. Debra and Donovan, our escorts, were gracious and helpful. My daughter and I had a great evening !

Highlight of our NY trip
Thu, Jul 13, 06   1:10 PM Unitymac1 Female 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
The highlight of our recent trip to NYC was the hip hop tour.. We wondered if we would be welcome as we are quite a bit older than hip hop music but nothing could be further than the truth. Raheim, our guide, was informative, knowledgable and eloquent. Not only is the tour a tribute to hip hop, it is also of historical interest as Raheim introduces the tourist to many buildings and places important to Harlem's colourful and varied past. He draws your attention to lots of sites as the tour winds through the streets and neighbourhoods. It was just wonderful to tour Harlem so long a 'no go' area to whites. Wherever we went people hailed Raheim and smiled and chatted with us. Harlem and Raheim were great hosts! Please take this tour of Harlem - Oh! and save room for the wonderful Soul luncheon when the tour is over - $5.00 all you can eat - yum! By the way we did not tip Raheim. We did not know if we should or not and we should have asked him for his autograph as it will never happen again that one of the creators of a genre personally shows you around his world - a bit like having Picasso show you how he painted a picture!
