Educational and Fun!!!
Sun, Jul 2, 06   1:10 PM Perkinsmoore Female 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
My 10 year old son and I took the tour this past 4th of July weekend. It was better than I expected. The tour guide was informative, cordial and very knowledgeable. My son was very pleased and the guide kept his attention throughout the tour. We saw the building where "New Jack City" was filmed and we recognized the surroundings from other movies that were filmed in Harlem. We saw President Clinton's office and experienced a totally awesome meal at Manna's Restaurant. Spanish Harlem, Apollo Theatre, Grafitti walls and the St. Teresa Hotel were a delight. I would highly recommend this tour for anyone with children. I especially liked the tour guides interaction with the group-question and answer segments which made us really feel like we were involved in the process and provided a valuable educational experience for my son.

It was very informative and at the same time lively - it was nice to get to know the narrators on a personal level. We got to see every hidden corner of Harlem and the true roots of hip hop which made you really appreciate it to it's fullest and get behind the whole movement. Lunch is fantastic! I didnt feel like I needed to eat again for a whole week, the food was that good - real soul food! Stops on the tour included the Graffiti Hall of Fame which oozed vibrance and character, Rucker Park where a few of us shot hoops!,The Walk of fame in the Bronx...awesome. Interaction was great and everyone was involved. Definately is a must do if visiting New York.

Not worth the price tag

Most viewing is done from within the bus (not a luxury bus as stated) and too many insignificant pieces of information. Would expect a proper soul food restaurant rather than an "all you can eat "type for $ 4.99

Entertainer, Educator, and Cultural Icon

Grandmaster Caz was part entertainer, part educator, and part cultural icon. The tour bus was comfortable, the tour staff respectful and knowledgeable, and the tour was both educational and entertaining.

I really enjoyed the tour. Most of the information was totally new to me but very interesting. This was a great tour and I recommend anyone visiting New York for the first time to check it out.

The 3 of us who went along on the tour were pretty well schooled on the origins of hip hop, but no matter how much you think you know, this tour is absolutely worth it! It was such an inspiring tour, we definately left feeling re invigorated and inspired, cannot recommend this tour enough!!! And that Soul Food was damn good too! Thanks for such a memorable day :o)

My sister and I took our sons, ages 14 and 16. My son is the one who's interested in hip hop, but we all had a great time! Grand Master Cas was an awesome tour guide and had a lot of interesting stories and information about the sites. We got to see parts of New York that we otherwise wouldn't have been to. I would definitely recommend taking in this tour. Oh, and lunch was great, too!

Very educative in an interactive and funny way.

One gets an overview of the early history of hip-hop. The guides are very friendly and interact a lot with people. I would have wished more stops and more music in the bus, though. The food was excellent.

Spent most of the time in the bus

I wish we had more places to visit where we could get out of the bus. I wish we had listened more music and less talk. It is too expensive to be in the bus for nearly three hours and eat at a $4.99 all you can eat buffet. I have eaten soul food all my life, and was disappointed. The host was kind and funny; but patronizing and not very open to dialogue. I am not crazy about tours and was trying to have a positive experience. Had it been less expensive and lasted 2 hours only, I would have enjoyed more.

Universally excellent - anyone who cares for hip hop enough to see past the cristal and the grills needs to spend an afternoon with Caz and his memories.. goes a long way to pass on some much needed cultural pride re this phenomenon. What Debra is doing is worth everyone with a beat in their soul's attention - the outreach to the NYC community is also to be commended.. make it a stop on your NYC visit.. oh and Mannas chicken is the s***!
