The tour that lies beneath the shadows of New York

You don't need to be heavily into Hip-Hop to enjoy this tour, but hey, this is the safest route into seeing the Bronx, which is a part of New York that most international tourist who are afraid to see. I am an Australian MC and my love in Hip-Hop has called me upon this tour not only to see why there's Hip-Hop, I was given the opportunity to see what lies in the shadows of New York.
The Bronx and the Harlem certainly upholds the richest history, especailly for the African-American culture. It begins with the hey days of funk or soul music up to Hip-Hop music. This was more than worthwhile spending 4 hours of my time on the hush tour and gained important knowledge in the rich history of Hip-Hop and other African-American music for the last 50 years. |

A BIG CHEAT
|

This activity was a big cheat.
First, we stopped in a "graffiti mural" at East Harlem, which wasn't as good as the Long Island City one.
Second stop was to make some basketball shots at Harlem, too. But the best was after, Grandmaster Caz said: "Let's go to the Bronx", and the Bronx which we saw was the Yankee Stadium title from the bridge, and then, back to Manhattan. I was stupefact, but nobody said nothing.
The best thing too was we took a hat and chains around the neck by the staff, but at the end, we must return to them... (The hat was no Kangol, and the chains can be found at Chinatown...)
The paradox is that the other excursion with Hush Tours was in the other extreme, was very dope and interesting. |

A GREAT EXPERIENCE

This excursion was surprising, and very dope, for me.
First, because I can see with my own eyes the Queensbridge projects, original place of rap artists like Nas, Mobb Deep, or Cormega.
I could see too Jamaica and South Jamaica, borough of LL Cool J or Onyx, and Hollis, borough of Run DMC.
In addition, I was the mural dedicated to Jam Master Jay in Queens.
The surprise was too that the driver was: Mickey D, former component of the group Main Source in their second album: "F*** what you think", he remplaced to Large Professor in this album, he put songs very good in the car. The copilot was a man called Mark, or Marcus, I don't know the last name, and he knew many things unknown to the great audience of hip hop.
With great gratefulness,
Mario Berón Bruna |

it's essential for a hip-hop head to be introduced to their roots; to be exposed to those elements that for hip-hop's foundation; it's better when a living legend, a hip-hop creator, can introduce you to those roots. |

I have to admit that this was the only 'tour' I took in NYC. That said, it was my highlight of my trip.
The Hosts Grandmaster Caz & JDL took it 200%. They put their heart and soul into this tour and it paid off.
Although it was raining hard, we pushed through and visited most sites and took a trip through time with Caz's amazing ability to story tell For any real hip hop lover this is pretty much bucketlist worthy. |

Well, What can I say.
I am a hip hop "head" from England and was well looking forward to this tour. Me and my girlfriend didn't really know what to expect but were going in the knowledge that we would see some sights that you wouldn't usually see doing usual tourist stuff, and also learn new stuff about Hip Hop. We were'nt disappointed.
From start to finish everything about the tour was first class, the way it was run (Hush Tours Stand Up!!!!) company on the coach, the importance and general knowledge learnt from every site, the amount of time taken to explain where we were and how relevant the sites were and just the general overall feel of everything involved in the day.
As i said Hush Tours were brilliant in every aspect of the day, and the whole tour for me (and my girlfriend) exceeded our expectations, however special mention needs to go to our tour guide on the day, the amazing JDL (Jerry Dee Lewis) form the pioneering Cold Crush Brothers. He was on point everywhere he took us, describing everything brilliantly and telling us his experiences and insights and what it was like back in the day. His passion and love of Hip Hop was apparent (obviously he was there, and had a big part to play) and it felt like he was loving this as much as we were. He was the perfect tour guide, always willing to answer questions and also willing to have a photo taken. Good lookin' JD!!!
Overall, I would strongly recommend this tour to anyone. If you are well into your hip hop, you will fully appreciate everything here (and going to 1520 Sedgewick and meeting a legend is worth it anyway!!!)
If you're slightly into hip hop, you get to see where it all started and learn more about the culture from a legend who was there.
If you're not into hip hop (why not!? Only kidding!!) this is a chance to not only learn about the essence of an important component of not only American, but also Popular Culture, but also to see parts of New York that you wouldn't neccesarily have otherwise seen, with a great group of people, an excellent tour guide and a well organised friendly company.
What are you waiting for....see where it started and where its at!!!!! |

This tour took us around Harlem and the Bronx, showing us interesting Hip Hop sites. Our tour guide Grandmaster Caz shared his first hand knowledge and stories from the early days of Hip Hop with us. He was really enthusiastic and entertaining - which made the tour extra special! |
