Grandmaster Caz - A Legend

| Honestly - even if you do not have a mild interest in Hip Hop and are just visiting New York then you NEED to spend 4 hours of your trip on this tour - the history and cultural insight that you learn are what goes towards making New York the place that it is today. Forgot the modern day stereotypes, the tour which was led by Grandmaster Caz (to describe him as knowledgeable is a vast understatement, as he was there at the beginning of hip hop and so I guess he is the knowledge - the spark that created the fire back in the 1970s) tours Harlem, the Bronx and visits key locations that have constituted towards the hip hop "movement". Caz was charismatic and insightful and above all else enthusiastic to be sharing his experience with the group. You even get to sample some delightful Soul Food at lunch (I recommend the Jerk Chicken - spicy). On the coach, Caz's narrative is broken up with samples of groundbreaking records of the early era and various video clips - including one of the man himself with a massive afro and an over the top stage outfit - hilarious! ;-) There is so much more to it and overall I was just privledged to have been a part of the tour. Just make sure you listen carefully to where you can pick up some Sedgewick & Cedar clothing that Caz is now a part of. Book up this tour now! | ||||||

| I would have loved to get information about the more recent hip hop scene and I expected to see more places!!! For example where certain people have lived, places of shootings and so on. Instead your are only shown about 5 important places, whose importance dates back to the 70s and 80s. Also U get a lot of information about the life of the so called "pioneers" which was very boring after a while. Moreover the lunch took about 45 min of the 4 hours tour! All in all i was quite disappointed!!!!! | ||||||

| Trip was nice, Reggie gave a good, short summary of Hip Hop history, and was very friendly and open for questions. We visited an exhibition in the Museum of the City of NY ans walked through Harlem, which was quite impressive. All in all I can recommend that tour, especially for those who are not familiar for Hip Hop culture at all and therefore want to have some insight. | ||||||

| The Hip Hop Tour was excellent and I recommend it to anyone that will be making a trip to New York. The tour provided you with an indebt history of not only Hip Hop, but the Black History of New York. Caz, our tour guide was excellent and enthusiastic. The Hip Hop tour was one of the major highlights of my trip. The additional members of my group stated that they were glad that I chose this tour as one of our activities. We were also very lucky, because we were able, to tour the Apollo, which was not on our schedule, and there was also a gentlemen on the tour who conducts, some of the major tours of New York. Therefore we received some additional information on landmarks, great places to shop, and locations on where to buy discount Broadway tickets. I felt like for the money we paid, we received three tours in one, and it was well worth the money. The only negative thing that I would say about the tour is lunch. I think that the website should state, that, "Although we do stop for lunch it is not included in the tour, and you must have cash." Besides lunch, everything was great. Thank You :) | ||||||

| Understanding the begins of Hip-Hop and Rap. One recommendation: Add more of the newer rappers as part of the tour. So, you'll get more young people involved in the understanding of the beginning of Hip-Hop. | ||||||

| OMG!! I absolutely loved it. I have been on MANY NYC tours and this was completely different. It was interesting, fun, interactive and educational. I currently live in Brooklyn and love when I have opportunities to see other parts of the city. It was a great experience and I would highly recommend it to hip-hop lovers and people who just want an exciting/different experience in NYC. All of the landmarks were historical and the Graffiti Wall of Fame was amazing!! Grandmaster Caz was the guide and what a lucky woman I was to have a forefather of Hip-Hop giving me a tour and history lesson. He was VERY funny and honest. And now I can't stop seeing him on every show and documentary of hip hop....He is even my MySpace picture right now :) | ||||||

| The tour was great... Am not as deep in my knowledge as my husband and found it just as entertaining as he did! Grandmaster Caz was totally engaging, held the floor of the bus as it was his stage... Taking you through from the roots of hip hop (thank god no jiggy ish), and where it all began... The food wasnt as bad as a previous poster described, its a soul food buffet, take what you like, leave what you dont... Was dope to get a pic with Caz at the end as well, definitely one for the album!!! | ||||||

| One gets an overview of the early history of hip-hop. The guides are very friendly and interact a lot with people. I would have wished more stops and more music in the bus, though. The food was excellent. | ||||||

| The information conveyed was interesting. But I wished there had been more discussion between points of interest about the nature of hip-hop culture or some personal stories about the tour leaders experiences with hip-hop. I would still reccomend it for people with an interest in hip-hop. | ||||||
