Far from traditional site seeing, discover NY soul
Wed, May 16, 12   11:00 AM frmichel Male 30-39 International Tourist(s) Group of Friends
We are 4 friends, not at all experts of hip hop, just interested, and we wanted to discover NY from another point of view. And that was the case. Our guide, Nelson is an amazing guy: as an active member of the community, he's got the passion of what he showed and explained us. He was always willing to answer any questions and make sure we understood. Attention, the walk is a bit long, 2+ hours with sustained pace. Sometimes the neighbourhood is not that interesting, but it must be crossed to go from one place to another. Also you'd better have a correct English level, even if the guide makes great efforts to be understandable. Anyway that's was a really good experience, and I recommend it to anyone who wants to go ahead from traditional tourist site seeing, and get a taste of the real NY by its people. Thx again Nelson for this tour!

Great Tour Great Guide

This was a great tour of the original NYC Hip Hop scene. The tour was led by Grandmaster Cas one of the pioneers of hip hop. The Bronx / Harlem tour went to alot of places that a normal tourist would never go. It is perfect for an "out of towner" that wants to see more than the Times Square area. I definitely recomend this tour.

If you're into old skool hiphop, this is your tour

Grandmaster Caz was my host and he got everything off to a lively start. He involved the audience a lot early on, which broke the ice amongst the bus full of strangers. There was a live demonstration of break-dancing and some of our group volunteered to join in. We saw the homes of some of the originators of hiphop and some of the locations where the early hiphop venues were. I think that Caz made the tour. He is very knowledgeable about the history and has seen everything first hand from the beginning. He is approachable and tries to answer everyone's questions. He even added a few comments not related to hiphop, such as how Harlem was changing. I'm giving the tour four stars rather than five because I feel that it lost the flow towards the end. It got off to an exciting start with the breakdancing, and Caz was showing us how graffiti and breakdancing are doing today as well as how they started in the past. Towards the end of the tour, we were spending a lot of time on the bus and were stopping for only a few minutes at each site. I liked how Caz rapped for us on the bus, but I felt that the early buzz had worn off a bit by the time that we went for lunch.

We LOVED everything about this tour!

My family and I are so glad we decided to take this tour. Grandmaster Caz and Chief 69 were great hosts. If you really want to get up close and personal with the roots of Hip Hop, this tour is a must! GM Caz takes you back to where it all began, he is the prototypical showman and host. His tribute to our 'lost' rappers has to be experienced, he really moved all of us with his performance. Most people would never venture into the areas highlighted on this tour, and most definitely even if you DID, you would not know where to look and what its all about. Trust me, put your faith in Hush Tours, and let them do what they do best. For sure, the next time we are in NYC we will be taking tours with them. Thank you so much guys, we will treasure our time with you all.

Excellent tour around the birthplaces of hip hop. I especially loved the breakdancing introduction, the Big L memorial, and the Graffiti hall of fame. Good times!

Out tour guide was Grandmaster Caz - who I was hoping to have as the guide. I'm sure all the guides would be great but Caz is a favorite of mine so this made my day. So great to see so many places that i've heard in many songs since I've been listening to Hip Hop records since the early 80's. Also, really great seeing the Apollo Theatre, Theresa Hotel and all the other famous places in amongst the Hip Hop sites. I practically had goosebumps when visiting Sedgewick Ave, and was humbling to see the Big L memorial on Lenox Ave. One of my highlights was Caz's rendition of MC's Delight with the whole bus providing a soul clap. My wife even had a good time, much to her surprise, as she isn't into Hip Hop inspite of my efforts. Justin - Bristol, UK.

I'm an Hip Hop-activist out of Germany. Since 1988 I'm involved in the Hip Hop-movement in Germany as a B-Boy, Writer and MC. So it was my dream to travel to the birthplace of Hip Hop one day. Of course: I know allready a lot about Hip Hop - but every artist has to go to his roots one day: A dream came true! Bronx and Harlem are beautiful to the fullest.... Hip Hop 4 Life (!) Dennis

As a 55 year white male who hated rap and knew nothing about hip-hop, I was the "ride" and the "wallet" for the tour with my son and his cousins. Well, after four hours, I can say that I know a lot about the history of hip-hop music. While I would still not call myself a fan, I do have a greater appreciation for the genre. Grand Master Caz did a great job of educating and entertaining us. I highly recommend the tour. Paul

EXCELLENT!...INFORMATIVE!....CAZ A TRUE LEGEND!

Well where can we start met JDL of cold crush bros before boarding, mixed bunch of very friendly people from around the world on the tour, met by one of the breakers "chief 69" boarded the bus, which was comfy with air conditioning,we made grand entrance for the "GRANDMASTER CAZ". GRANDMAMASTER CAZ was there from the humble beginnings of hip hop, i know i have many of his 12"s with cold crush and solo joints and of course "WILDSTYLE" and showed us all 4 aspects in great detail ,the tour was informative, entertaining, and pro-active, which even my girlfriend who does not like hip hop/rap music thoroughly enjoyed and joined in, honestly no one could have put more effort and enthuiasm into explaining the roots of hip hop. some highlights were seeing the birthplace of first block party kool herc played in the bronx, the graffiti wall of fame, the breakdancing in spanish harlem, the bronx walk of fame, seeing the apollo and where the disco fever & harlem world stood "why no plaques or memorials "(maybe you could sort this). and even the soul food stop which by the way was reasonably priced and very tasty and souvenir t-shirts cd`s weren`t a rip off either. favorite moment personally for me was CAZ explaination of how sugarhill gangs "big bad hank" stealing his rhymes for "rappers delight" and CAZ`s 32 year old answer back which he performed with as much skill as he did his rhymes on wildstyle and early hip hop classics BRILLIANT! Summed up this was great value for money, with a great host and bunch of guy`s that helped CAZ .....KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK PEOPLE MANY THANKS PEACE! alex (AL-D) & Jenny

I heard about this tour on VH1 while sitting on my couch in Oklahoma. I knew that one day I would have to go to New York and check out this tour. Grandmaster Caz aka Casanova Fly took us through a journey that I had no idea he would take us on. I thought we would sit on a bus and he would briefly explain Hip Hop landmarks. I was mistaken. Although some locations were explained while on the bus, most locations were interactive. We were able to get off the bus and see, touch, and FEEL the landmarks. Seeing and hearing about these landmarks is one thing but to be there in person is whole new level of experience!! Since the tour was hosted by a Hip Hop pioneer, it gave the tour and information a ton of validity. Thank God the tour DOES NOT utilize hired people that don't possess the passion of Hip Hop. A "B-Boy" also accompanied us on our journey and also provided us with insight on the B-Boy lifestyle and battle history. If you are a Hip Hop head, I STRONGLY ENCOURAGE YOU TO TAKE THIS TOUR! In my opinion, the craziest thing about the tour was that I was the only Black dude on the bus. There were so many people from Switzerland, Italy, etc on the bus. THIS is proof that HIP HOP LIVES !!

Me and my son read about this tour in a Swedish newspaper and thought that this would be the best way to for me, remember the beginning of hiphop and for my son to learn about where and how it all started. Also a great way to see Harlem and the Bronx. Everything exceeded our expectations. Caz, and Chief 69 were personal, warm and enthusiastic and really gave their utmost to make us feel good and enjoy. Which we truly did! A warm thanks for one of the best days during our week in New York.
