Recommendation From A Non Hip Hopster

I personally have never been a fan of hip hop which is not uncommon for my age group. When my son realized I was taking my grandson and daughter-in-law to New York for a visit, he stated he had always wanted to participate in a hip hop tour. My grandson, age 11, also indicated he would enjoy this. I agreed because I became more interested in hip hop by watching "So You Think You Can Dance". After determining the tour was "family friendly", I agreed to purchase the tickets. I must say it was an absolute delight. Everyone was extremely professional, well versed and had the ability to make everyone of any gender or age feel quite comfortable. I thoroughly enjoyed learning the history of hip hop and must say, because of this, I now have totally changed my view. Before this tour, I believed all hip hop was dirty language and totally disrespectful. I no longer believe this and am happy to have had the opportunity to learn the truth about hip hop. My grandson and daughter-in-law also enjoyed the tour. We purchased a CD which is currently being enjoyed by my grandson. It's wonderful to learn that just because a "culture" may not be one practiced by everyone, doesn't mean it's against good values.

I have been into Hip Hop since the late 80's - among loads of other musical styles and was looking very much forward to this tour (after being told about it by a friend who did it a few years back). I was on the tour with my wife (whom is not THAT into hip hop), but we both learned so much! Not only about Hip Hop and the origins, but also about American history (although it might "only" be 30 year old history) We were fully entertained throughout the entire trip! Grandmaster Cas was the perfect host for this. Friendly, witty, knowledgeable and fresh! I have a few friends that will be going to New York and this tour will be highly recommended!

The items given to us should have been ours to keep rather than having to give them back at the end of the tour. It would have been a nice gift as part of the tour. Also, the restaurant didn't accept credit cards, debit cards or checks....just cash. People should know this in advance so they could bring cash. We had just enough cash to eat a small lunch. If we would have know ahead of time we would have had more cash with us.

What an amazing tour in New York City. Grandmaster Caz was a fantastic guide, very knowledgeable with loads of stories from the moment the coach started! I would highly recommend this tour for anyone into 80's hiphop, you get to see areas that as a tourist you would never find! Cheers Simon

Absolutely Essential!

I highly recommend this tour for hip hop fans, music afficionados and culture seekers of all types. This tour is not just about music - it is about history, and to have the legends, the historians who were there lead the tour is what makes it most special. My tour guide, Grandmaster Caz, was (and is) the real thing and absolutely made the entire experience worthwhile. The stories and sites focus on the origins of hip hop and don't go past the early 1980s too too much. If you're not already schooled in the "old school," you might not understand the relevance of some of the tour stops, but fortunately, this tour inspires you to dig deeper and learn more about the history. I enjoyed myself so much that next time I'm in NY, I plan to take the tour AGAIN and bring a friend! djsoulsister

The guy who lead the tour on Friday, October 31 was a faded out hip hop star, he really didnot give much information on the subject. People on the bus seemed to know more about the subject then he did. He kept getting off the subject. He really needs to bone up on the subject. Aslo most people are not interested in his personal political opinions. He really didn't make too much sense. The raps he shared with us were good. But really I think he need to tell us moreabout the whole culture of HIP HOP. Tour was not worth the price.

MAKE THIS A MUST IF YOU VISIT NEW YORK
Fri, Aug 7  11:00 AM SMAZUMDER Female 30-39 International Tourist(s) Family Without Children
This tour was one of the highlights of our honeymoon in New York. Our tour guide, grand master Caz with his big personality and his legendary status within the realms of Hip hop made this tour interesting, fun and equally accessible to those with an interest in the music and those with little or no knowledge. The tour takes you through Harlem and the Bronx, both areas that have to be experienced if you want to get a real flavour of the city . Overall, this 4 hour tour is packed with historical information about hip hop with visits to significant sites, guided by a legend who shares his incredible memories and experiences of the birth of the music. It was a true priviledge to be in his company and we left feeling that it was the real deal. We would like to extend a big thanks to Hush tours for providing what has been an excellent experience.
