I'd recommend this tour to literally everyone, your trip to NYC won't be complete without this!
speaking from a hip hop enthusiast point of view, the "Birthplace of Hip Hop Tour - Harlem & The Bronx" organized by Hush Tours, is very enlightening. Without giving away the places visited on the tour, I have a decent knowledge of what they are already, but being on the tour and having the story told by the hip hop pioneer, for me is Grand Master Caz, makes this experience "one of a kind"! you could read all you want about the history of hip hop in books or online but getting a first-hand account on what actually happened is very different and much better.
hip hop pioneer tour guides are very organized and take good care of the group. besides the guide, they hire another person to be with the tour and take care of all the miscellaneous things, which is thoughtful and much appreciated. as for value, the tour makes good use of the entire 4 hours, the process isn't rushed but very fulfilling. unlike some day tour in other countries, they are not pushy at all with selling souvenirs. at the end of the tour, they just simply let's you know what's available and that's it. I bought some rare CD for only $10 each, great value and can be autographed as well.
this tour is also good for those whom isn't as enthusiastic as me, but still want to find out more about hip hop. the tour takes you to places where ordinary tourists wouldn't go, like parts of Harlem and South Bronx. While on my own, I think the busy streets of Harlem are safe but still not the Bronx, and the tour is a great opportunities to check out those remarkable neighborhood with a lot of peace in mind.
Debra, founder of the tour, whom also greets every person on the tour at the starting point, is a great resource for finding out what's happening in NYC's hip hop scene. I joined a party celebrating Grand Master Caz's birthday on the weekend after the tour and Debra was very friendly and caring for me at the party. Most importantly, she treats other people with the same kind of sincerity and generosity, and none of those "New Yorker's cold and indifferent attitude" that I found at my expensive hotel.

I did that tour with Grand Master Caz. And it was very helpful because I don't know a lot about hip hop. Caz is educational and fun. I liked his hands on lesson about how to get electricity in the street to provide music for an outdoor party and I'd like singing along with him. Last, Grand Master Caz is full of humour, men are cats, small people are vertically challenged and boom boom boxes prehistoric ipods... |

I was disappointed as we came all the way from Australia, had our dates mucked about (not your fault) I emailed Zerve to see if we could change the day (5 of us) but no one got back to me. Now i realize it clearly says we cant get refunds etc, but considering 5 of us PAID it would have been nice just to get an email back at least. We weren't looking for a refund, we simply wanted to change the date of the booking by a day or 2. We have been looking forward to it for 6 months, now you have our hard earned money and we didn't get to do the tour. |

My wife and I took the BIRTHPLACE OF HIP-HOP tour through Harlem and the Bronx with HUSH HIP-HOP TOURS - hosted by GRANDMASTER CAZ.
I was really looking forward to this tour, as a highlight to our visit to NYC and we were not disappointed. Debra Harris (I think that's her name) has put together a really professional and entertaining tour and with GrandMaster Caz MCing the entire tour it was a history lesson in Hip-Hop, just as promised.
Caz was a true entertainer, giving us an previously unknown insight into the Golden era of Hip-Hop and the place where it all began. His constant voiceover was never boring, always entertaining. Puerto Rico on the sounds was a little rough but the kid tried really hard to accommodate and make things work.
At one of our stops (the Graffiti Hall of Fame) we were given a B-Boy demo by (can't remember the guy's name) and he too was a true entertainer. Our final stop in Harlem at for some Soul food was great - we felt safe with the group and the food was great.
All in all, HUSH HIP-TOURS put together a great tour - I have no qualms in recommending this tour to anyone. |

Hush Hip-Hop Tour review
I recently had the pleasure and great honour to be on the April 3rd Hush Hip-Hop tour hosted by Grand Master Caz. This was one of the best tours I have ever experienced in my life. Easily better than the tour I experienced in the Louvre in Paris.
How and why could I ever compare the two tours?
I studied art history throughout my college and university years, and being able to witness the greatest works of art was truly
amazing. I found my Louvre tour guide to be very knowledgeable
and informative. However, my experience in the Hush Hip Hop
Tour was not just led by a knowledgeable academic, but a living historian
of the Hip Hop culture. Not only is Caz an incredible story teller, but the fact is they are his stories, his life, his actual experiences. Imagine speaking to
John Lennon about the first days of the Beatles and how he wrote
"All you need is love". Imagine meeting Walt Disney and having him show you where he first drew Mickey Mouse. Imagine a tour with George Lucas and hearing
his stories about the filming of Star Wars. I was lucky enough to be in the
presence of Hip Hop greatness and for that I am grateful.
He is an originator, a pioneer, a founding father of hip hop.
One of the original writers of Rapper's Delight.
Mr C- a-s-a-n-o-v-a and the rest is f-l-y.
I met Grand Master Cas.
That alone was worth the price of admission.
9/10

The tour was well planned and enjoyable for all ages. There was a good blend of NY sightseeing, hip hop historical information, video viewing, music, diversity of the hip hop culture and interaction with the tour guide.
I learned alot in a fun interactive environment. The on and off of the bus ride made the tour feel more hands on. The tour guide was thorough and gave personal accounts of hip hop origins which made the tour real and enjoyable.
I would recommend any visitor to NY take this tour !!!!! |

This was a fantastic tour. I would highly recommend it. The tour guides were great. This is a great way to see a part of New York that you would not normally visit. I learned a lot about hip hop that I did not know. The tour is very safe. It is also okay to bring children. You really get a feel for the origins of hip hop with some of its original artists who helped to shape the industry.
I cannot say enough good things about this tour. |
