An Alternative look at NYC
Sat, Jun 3, 06   11:00 AM psforster Male 40-49 Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
As a young punk I would have loved to have been in NYC during the hayday of this neighborhood but it is better late than never. I brought my family who was really not familiar with the music scene that was going on in NYC in the late 70's and early 80's. They really enjoyed the tour but probably not to the extent perhaps as I did. I believe all in our party would highly recommend this tour.

A must for all you Ramones fans!!

We've just arrived back in Scotland from our vacation in New York and I have to say that the Rock Junket Tour was our personal highlight. For all you music fans and in particular fans who are interested in where punk originated from it was quite fascinating. My partner and I are both massive Ramones fans and it was fantastic to see where they lived & hung out etc. We didn't even realise Joey had a street named after him! It was great to see CBGB's as we had read and heard so much about it from books etc. So, to actually be there, standing outside it was something else. There were many interesting artefacts on the tour, things which we found particularly interesting were Iggy Pop's flat and where he walked his dog, the Joe Strummer mural, the Continental where all the bands played and Joey had his birthday parties, where Madonna lived before she became famous and of course all the Ramones stuff. May I also say that the guy who takes the tour, Bobby Pinn, is a really knowledgable person who certainly knows his stuff when it comes to the New York music scene. He's a really cool guy too and very friendly. So Bobby, if you ever read this and decide to carry out your dream to play golf on the Old Course at St. Andrews, Scotland, you can drop us an email and we'll catch up with you for a beer!!

Highlight of our visit

My 18 year old daughter and I did all the "touristy" things in New York but this tour was definitely the highlight of our visit. Really interesting and definitely something for everyone into music, young and old. The leaflet given to us after the tour was extremely helpful as well and we visited a couple of the recommended eating places and bought some CDs (with the discount voucher). We had a great time !

I knew Stiv ... In the day..

Well not really.. unless you can count walking up to him in a bar.. It was fascinating walking around the neighborhood and actually seeing places I had only ever read about or knew only from song lyrics and videos. Our guide did a great job of filling in the history, 20 to 30 years may have passed but the pictures painted were good enough to wipe most of those years away. I’ll probably take the tour again the next time I get to New York.

Lower East Side Rock Walk!!

My wife and I enjoyed this walk very much. We live in the area and are very interested in Rock n Roll and it's history in our neighborhood. We learned alot about various rock stars past homes and were variuos concert hall and clubs were located. As a big Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin fan, I enjoyed hearing the sites that were used for alubum covers and video shoots. The tour guide was excellent and very knowledeable on this topic. He even threw in some history on other sites in the parks along the way. We enjoyed ourselves very much !!

Enjoyed the Rock Tour
Sat, Sep 3, 05   11:00 AM Hopper Male 40-49 Local Group of Friends
Did the Rock Junket walking tour and enjoyed very much. New York has such a rich history for Rock n Roll that something like this is deserved. The tour was informative, funny and insightful. I thought the guide had information that was not so readily avaliable and going to the actual sights made it that much more enjoyable. He also covered a few different era's of rock and so it provided enough interest for everyone. I would do it again.

A great rock history of the East Village

This tour is a must-do for any fan of the Ramones, Dolls, Iggy or Clash. Many punk landmarks and stories included, as well as history of the East Village and recent gentrification, etc. I was happy just to see Joey Ramone's building, but this tour included SO much more! Don't miss it! Christine Valentor Chicago P.S. SAVE CBGB!

A must for any rock and roll fan!

I thoroughly recommend this tour if you are even slightly interested in the rich musical and artistic history of the East Village. The tour guide is knowledgable and engaging, and importantly seems to be a hell of a nice guy. He's a great source of local knowledge so not only do you get an informative and entertaining history of the area and it's notable sights and buildings, but he can also assist with any other question you would have as a visitor to NY. If the names Iggy Pop, New York Dolls or Ramones mean anything to you then you will love this tour.

Wow, this tour was great. Bobby is such an enthusiastic and knowledgable guide, that we could have spent all day listening to him. We took this trip on the last day of our stay in New York and now are determined to go back and explore the East Village some more - it's such a cool place. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone into their punk and rock music - we learnt so much and had a great time.

A Great Diversion from the Usual

I'm not a fan of tourist traps, preferring always to seek out the 'realness' of a new place. I thouroughly enjoyed my tour. It was very informative, while still being relaxed and casual. I think my experience was enhanced more by the fact I had not ventured into that particular part of town. I showed me the New York I wanted to see - the rock history. Great!

Alt i alt anbefalingsværdigt /D

Rocking good time for all

This tour is a rocking good time for all - whether you are a novice or an expert on the East Village rock scene (or somewhere in between, like me). Bobby Pin is excited about the places and music he loves and it shows. I liked that he pulled worn torn vinyl out of his bag now and then to describe what he was talking about. He's quite professional yet obviously a rocker. He turned us on to some cool bars too! After the tour my group hit happy hour at Manitobas and had a blast. Thanks!
