ROCK N ROLL HISTORIC JOURNEY

This was my first visit to NYC and being a rock n roll fan ,what better way to find the rock history of THE LOWER EAST SIDE .If you are into your 70s,80s punk/rock then this tour is for you with loads of history of that era mainly, sadly as explained before the tour starts ,most places have been replaced by more modern, corperate places. But luckerly a few real jems are included but get in quick as prob the most famous place CBGBS is closing in next few months. This is a very relaxed morning, with different ages & types of people & a host who can answer quistions if asked.Well worth checking out even with a hangover from the night before!.Just hope some sites are left for next time i visit NYC

If you're a music junkie, then I totallly recommend this walking tour. I've been to New York several times and consider myself pretty knowledgeable about music and pop culture, but there were several surprises on this tour. For example, one of my favourite NYC restaurants is right across the street from the building that Led Zepplin photographed for the cover of their Physical Graffitti LP, and I'd never made the connection until the tour guide (who was engaging and enthusiastic) pointed it out. Charlie Parker's house (which I'd probably never have found on my own) was another highlight and this bit of jazz history in the middle of a rock-and-roll tour was great! The tour was conducted at a leisurely and mellow pace (good thing if you have hangovers from the night before like we did), and it was a great way to introduce yourself to the layout of the St. Mark's neighbourhood if you've never been.

This tour is worth doing if you are a fan of 60's and 70's rock. Especially if you like Led Zep, Stones and all the CDGB late 70's era bands like Talking Heads, Ramones, Television etc. Whilst not amazing, the tour does sadly highlight the capitalist attitudes of NYC. Site after site with immense historical value has been ruined for the mighty dollar. We are talking places that Hendrix performed at etc.. If this sounds like the sort of thing that would interest you than you should go.

This is a great way to learn a little about the East Village while taking in some cool sights. It is a must tour for any New York Dolls or Ramones fan or anyone who has an interest in music history. Next time you are in New York, skip the silly bus tours and choose the Rock N Roll Walking Tour, you will be happy you did.

An Alternative look at NYC

As a young punk I would have loved to have been in NYC during the hayday of this neighborhood but it is better late than never. I brought my family who was really not familiar with the music scene that was going on in NYC in the late 70's and early 80's. They really enjoyed the tour but probably not to the extent perhaps as I did. I believe all in our party would highly recommend this tour.

Very interesting way to spend a few hours

We attended the Rock and Roll walking tour on 13 May 2006. It was a very interesting way to spend a few hours and recommended to anyone who is into some of the finer music that came out of NYC from the 60s+. The guide Bobby Pinn was a very likeable guy and provided many facts about the East Village and the bands and artists who put the place on the musical map. Whilst many of the original locations may have gone (this was known when booking the tour), others were a pleasant surprise such Madonna's first home in the city, Led Zep classic album cover location, and best of the bunch, CBGB. With the latter expected to close up at the end of the summer, visit it whilst you can. The owner permitted the tour unlimited access to the building for great photo opportunities without the deafening sound of some of the less than classic bands who seem to play the joint nowadays. Overall, this is a reasonably priced and great way to spend a few hours in the East Village. Bobby also provides top tips on some of the bars and clubs to hang out in if sticking around the area or coming back another time.

This was a last minute decision for a group of lads looking for something to do whilst our ladies did the sex in the city tour. We went into it with no expectation and loved every minute of it. The tour was interesting, informative & fun. The guide really held your interest at all times as well. It was great receiveuing a detailed insght into NYC's rich rocknroll heritage!

I enjoyed this tour a great deal & recommend it to others. The tour guide did an outstanding job of mixing knowledgeable with humor, and he's very approachable. It was also good that I planned this tour on a nice day, which made the walk more enjoyable. I also like the summary of the tour that was handed out at the end, as well as the fact that the cell. # was listed on the ticket, as I was running a few minutes late & I would've missed the tour had it not been for that.. Overall, all went well & i had a real good time.

I can really recommend this tour. The guide Bobby knows the subject. He can also told you things you can't read from the books. So if you are interested about rock & roll and New York City this tour is MUST.

Well not really.. unless you can count walking up to him in a bar.. It was fascinating walking around the neighborhood and actually seeing places I had only ever read about or knew only from song lyrics and videos. Our guide did a great job of filling in the history, 20 to 30 years may have passed but the pictures painted were good enough to wipe most of those years away. I’ll probably take the tour again the next time I get to New York.

Lower East Side Rock Walk!!

My wife and I enjoyed this walk very much. We live in the area and are very interested in Rock n Roll and it's history in our neighborhood. We learned alot about various rock stars past homes and were variuos concert hall and clubs were located. As a big Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin fan, I enjoyed hearing the sites that were used for alubum covers and video shoots. The tour guide was excellent and very knowledeable on this topic. He even threw in some history on other sites in the parks along the way. We enjoyed ourselves very much !!
