FUN AND INFORMATIVE
Thu, Mar 29, 07   1:00 PM chelsea1 Female 50-59 International Tourist(s) Group of Friends
A group of four girlfriends including one NYC resident took this tour and we all really enjoyed it. Bobby certainly knows his stuff and is happy to share his love of the NY rock/punk scene. Such a pity that CBGBs is closed. Do the walk then go back and listen to your fave Ramones tracks with new enthusiasm!

If you love Rock take this tour!

This tour was one of the major highlights of our trip to New York! Bobby Pinn who leads the tour is not only an awesome guy, but a wealth of Rock Knowledge! I pride myself on knowing alot of musical history; but I learned so much from just a few hours on this tour! It not only shows you all the musical hot spots, but gives you a great walking class on the Village in New York! I highly recommend that anyone who loves music put this tour at the top of your "to do " list! Rock On!

Good stories and details, not just the obvious

The rock junket tour covered the history of rock in New York City in a surprisingly concise and amusing manner. I saw not just the obvious places like CBGB and Joey Ramone Place but also less-known places that would be difficult to find out about without expert help. The tour also covered a wider array of musical genres than I expected, ranging from punk and glam to pop and jazz.

Cool way to spend a Saturday morning!

If you're a music junkie, then I totallly recommend this walking tour. I've been to New York several times and consider myself pretty knowledgeable about music and pop culture, but there were several surprises on this tour. For example, one of my favourite NYC restaurants is right across the street from the building that Led Zepplin photographed for the cover of their Physical Graffitti LP, and I'd never made the connection until the tour guide (who was engaging and enthusiastic) pointed it out. Charlie Parker's house (which I'd probably never have found on my own) was another highlight and this bit of jazz history in the middle of a rock-and-roll tour was great! The tour was conducted at a leisurely and mellow pace (good thing if you have hangovers from the night before like we did), and it was a great way to introduce yourself to the layout of the St. Mark's neighbourhood if you've never been.

Very interesting way to spend a few hours

We attended the Rock and Roll walking tour on 13 May 2006. It was a very interesting way to spend a few hours and recommended to anyone who is into some of the finer music that came out of NYC from the 60s+. The guide Bobby Pinn was a very likeable guy and provided many facts about the East Village and the bands and artists who put the place on the musical map. Whilst many of the original locations may have gone (this was known when booking the tour), others were a pleasant surprise such Madonna's first home in the city, Led Zep classic album cover location, and best of the bunch, CBGB. With the latter expected to close up at the end of the summer, visit it whilst you can. The owner permitted the tour unlimited access to the building for great photo opportunities without the deafening sound of some of the less than classic bands who seem to play the joint nowadays. Overall, this is a reasonably priced and great way to spend a few hours in the East Village. Bobby also provides top tips on some of the bars and clubs to hang out in if sticking around the area or coming back another time.

This was a last minute decision for a group of lads looking for something to do whilst our ladies did the sex in the city tour. We went into it with no expectation and loved every minute of it. The tour was interesting, informative & fun. The guide really held your interest at all times as well. It was great receiveuing a detailed insght into NYC's rich rocknroll heritage!

Nice to learn some local history.

It was really interesting to learn the history behind some of my old favorite haunts. The first half of the tour was concentrated around the St. Mark's area, with historic details about places that I go to all the time. The second half was in and around alphabet city, and included lots of info about album covers, former artists' residences and so on. The guide, Bobby Pinn, seemed to have endless knowledge of the music world from an insider's perspective, and as a result the tour was geared more toward authentically local hot-spots as opposed to the typical tourist attractions.

a wonderful 2h trip into the heart of the East Village and his musical history. If you want to learn more and see where the Ramones began, where Warhol and his factory held partys, what kind of building inspired Zeppelin for "you know which cover album" I'm talking about...well you will learn a whole bunch of stuff with the help of those amazing guides who will make those streets talking musicaly to you. Fantastic walking tour Thank you again...

Enjoyed the Rock Tour

Did the Rock Junket walking tour and enjoyed very much. New York has such a rich history for Rock n Roll that something like this is deserved. The tour was informative, funny and insightful. I thought the guide had information that was not so readily avaliable and going to the actual sights made it that much more enjoyable. He also covered a few different era's of rock and so it provided enough interest for everyone. I would do it again.

Anecdotes and insight

Bobby was very friendly and offered a lot of information on the old haunts of the East Village where rockers and artists alike spent their nights. He was always open to answering questions and was knowledgable and funny. Lots of fun if you want to get insight into the crazy times of old, before all the legendary places closed and Kmart and Starbucks moved in!

Pretty Good Stuff

More or less lived up to what I thought it would be, but would have liked a little Johnny Thunders info thrown in. If you've read "Please Kill Me " your one step ahead already. Cute tour guide provided some additional eye candy. Covered a wider time frame than I had expected - interested me at 25 and my mother at 48. If you've never done the LES thing before it's a good primer and if you haven't been in a while it's a good refresher course. DO NOT WEAR HEELS!!!!! Bust out the Chucks or creepers for this one. Gets an overall 8.0.

Found this tour on the internet, wanted something different from the usual touristy stuff in New York. Was more than pleased with the P&R tour. Bobby Pin was a hive of information on the rock and punk scene!
