Somewhat Interesting, but.....

This was a pretty good tour, although I think the price was slightly high. The tour provides a "guide" who is supposed to entertain you with comedic remarks, and who uses singing as part of the sight descriptions. This sounded fun to us, so we booked it. How in the world did we end up with a tour guide who could not sing??? His bad voice, in addition to some pretty lame jokes, made for a not so-entertaining tour. We did, however, see some interesting sights that we didn't know existed from sightseeing in previous years.

Memphis Jones was our tour guide andin additionto being very knowledgeable about the history of Memphis and its music he had asense of humor, plays the guitar and sings very well. We usually don't do this kind of tour but found that we saw a lot of Memphis we would have otherwise missed and learned a lot about the city without having to contend withtraffic. I would definitely recommend the tour for someone who isn't going tobe in town long.

Caution if traveling with kids

I was traveling with 10 high school youth from our church youth group. While the tour was fun and upbeat there were a few ladies that were obviously drunk. They were very loud, drinking beer, and exchanged some inappropriate comments with the tour guide. The tour guide himself made some comments that were not appropriate for teens/kids either, in my opinion. The references to drinking, sex, and even making fun of an overweight person standing on the sidewalk were all things that I personally frowned on.

On the other hand, I did think it was a great way to see Memphis and get a lot of interesting history. Maybe the earlier tour instead of the evening tour would be a better choice when traveling with kids.

The history, music, and good humor provided by the guide on this tour were just great! Gary Hardy did a great job. Found myself sad that it was over and wanting to know more. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting Memphis.

Our group of 4 adults and 5 children between the ages of 5 and 15 went on the Memphis Mojo Tour last weekend, all I can say is from the minute we entered Miss Clawdy (the bus) we knew we had made a great decision. The energy, talent, and knowlege of Memphis Jones made this tour a fantastic, one of a kind experience. Without a doubt I would highley recommend Backbeat tours as a great way to see and learn more about Memphis Music, where it all started!

This was a wonderful opportunity to see Memphis--Memphis Jones was our tour guide/musician....very entertaining.... had hoped to have the 1959 bus...but that didn't work out....

We only had a short time in Memphis so this worked out great--especially since we did not have a car to see the sites--and we probably would have missed out...

Our guide was so talented! Very knowledgeable. The idea of the tour on the bus is so awesome! You cover so much in a short period of time, while being entertained & educated. My wife & I are not extroverted people, but we had a BLAST!! We felt comfortable! It was so much fun! Well worth the cost! We had walked around the city earlier that day, but had no idea of what we were actually seeing.

My husband and I were in town for the Alabama v. Ole Miss football game and decided we wanted to tour Memphis. We didn't know where to start, so we decided to take the Memphis Mojo tour and let them be our guide. Our tour guide was Memphis Jones and he, as well as the driver were AWESOME!! I have never had so much fun on a tour before. I didn't really know what to expect when the unconventional tour bus showed up, but once inside the entertainment and sightseeing was fantastic. We were able to see parts of Memphis that we could have never found by ourselves and the story-telling through music was like no other! We both were laughing and grinning the rest of the day and were still talking about the tour long after. IT IS A MUST WHILE IN MEMPHIS!!!!

Good until sound system went out

Have been on this tour before, and it was fantastic! This time the tour guide was great and knowledgeable, but about 2/3 or the way through the tour his sound system went out and we could not hear anything at all -- so the last 1/3 of the tour was quite boring!
