Fun activity with a twist!

My husband and I have done several different guides kayak trips worldwide - but all during daylight hours. This trip provided a great opportunity to safely explore a waterway " after hours." Chad, while focused on safety, showed us the mangrove ecosystem at dusk and after dark. We were also to see marine creatures that are impossible to see during the day, such as bioluminescent algae and worms - very cool!

Our kayaking guide, Katie, took us on a 2.5 hour trip thru the Mangroves and other areas which allowed us to see some marine life (sea cucumbers, jellyfish, hermit crabs in conch shells, etc). She was very knowledgeable about the marine life and areas we kayaked through. As a beginner, kayaking is very easy to pick-up and had no difficulties in steering and paddleing.

I would recommend the Blue Planet kayaking tour.

Fun kayak trip!

We booked the sunset kayak trip because it was something different and we really enjoyed it. One thing that made the trip fun was that it was at low tide so it was easier to see things in the water and for the guide to find critters to show. Because the moon wasn't too bright we were able to see the bioluminescence, which was really neat.

When we first met our guide James, I was a bit turned off my his abrupt (and I thought a bit rude) attitude but he did a good job during the trip so in the end it was fine.

You can either be picked up in the van or meet the van and follow them to the launch site. The van was really late maybe because they had to pick up a lot of people and it was ok to follow them because we were the only car but I could see if you had a lot of cars it would be easy to lose people. Seems like there has got to be a better meeting place closer to the launch site. The best thing about having the car is that you can just leave after and don't have to wait for everyone.

This is a great time, beautiful, especially watching the sunset from the water. My husband and I enjoyed this immensely, enough that the next time we visit Key West, we will be doing the nature reserve trip during the day. We would highly recommend this to anyone that enjoys the outdoors. What are you waiting for? ~Go book it now!! lol :) In all seriousness, we think you'll enjoy it as much as we did.

1st time for us to kayak and we really enjoyed it. Our guide, Chad, was great. His knowledge of the creatures of the bay enviornment made the event even more enjoyable. it was fun to see a conch and a ladderback sponge among other critters.

He also made us work harder than we thought we could or would have to work. It made me feel good that I could do it afterall. We definately recommend this activity.

Great tour of mangroves and ocean life

This tour included parts inside the mangroves (where we went though passages only three feet across) and out on the open water. The two and a half hours included more real paddling than I expected -- it was a bit of a workout. The guide was fantastic at finding creatures (anenome, conch, etc.) which she would pluck from the bottom and pass around the group while telling us about them. Highly recommended.

Experience Review

Found this company on-line, decided to book a 2.5 hour kayak tour for three adults. Weather (sun and wind) and water currents were perfect. There wasn't as much aquatic life as we hoped to see but seasonal considerations likely curtailed the number of species to be viewed.

One down-side is the company's facilities whose location is in need of a serious make-over.

Overall, a very decent experience.

My wife and I whole heartedly enjoyed the Blue Planet Kayak Tour. Our guide was extremely enthusiastic and had a great sense of humor. Not only did we experience abundant wildlife (both under the water and in the air), but we learned a lot. I recommend this tour to anyone who wants to get a taste of natural Key West.

We were lucky enough to be the only ones on our tour. I guess because it was Sunday morning. Our tour guide was great and informative. We saw crabs, a shark, jellyfish, stingrays, sea urchins, sea cucumber, etc.

My husband and I had a great time on this tour. Although it was extremely warm that day the time seemed to fly as we paddled for a couple of hours. I wouldn't bring younger children on this tour but I think most over the age of 10 would have a good time. Our guide was informative and kept the entire group interested. Considering what other tours around Key West charge I think this was a good value too.

We took the night kayaking trip in late October as part of our 6 day stay in Key West. It was our most memorable activity. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable, and totally committed to ensuring that we had a good time. We saw shrimp, lobster, jellies, starfish, crabs, urchins, and conches. The most interesting things he caught for us to see more closely were a sea hare and an octopus (which he said was a first for him!). It was very cool. Watching the sunset in the mangroves was beautiful. It was a small group (just my partner and me and another 5-person family). Our guide even kept us out later than scheduled (after making sure it was ok with everyone) to make sure we got to see a lot of different wildlife. Seeing bioluminescence when we dipped our paddles into the water was also very cool.

Three singles, two tandems, plus our very helpful and knowledgeable guide, Sarah. Paddled through narrow passages in mangrove islands. Sarah would locate various marine animals, fetch them up for our observation, and would pass them around the group for closer examination. Creatures included sea cucumber, starfish, conch, hermit crab, a ray. No alligators or crocks. Kayaks were sit-inside (my preference) rather than sit-on-tops. Would recommend Blue Planet to my friends.
