Excellent kayak trip through the mangroves

This was our first trip to Key West and we really love kayaking and wanted to see a much different environment than we are used to. The car picked us up at the hotel right on time and brought us the short distance to Boca Chica and within a very short time we were on the water. The tour leader was extremely personable, enthousiastic and knowledgeable of the area. She was able to show us different sea life and tell us about the "biology" of the sea animals. She made the trip all the more fun. It did not hurt that the weather was beautiful. I suggest bringing water and perhaps a snack because these are not provided. Also....a camera for sure.

I would definitely recomment Blue Planet for water activities. As a matter of fact we took the private tour with Chad (the owner) and this was a much longer voyage and more challenging. Being a biologist, Chad was able to tell us alot about the mangroves and the environment we in which we were kayaking.

I would recomment making reservations ahead of time to be sure to get the day and

time you wish to kayak. These were the highlights of our vacation in Key West.

Unrivaled way to experience the Keys

The sunset/starlight kayak tour with Blue Planet kayaking was an incredible way to experience the natural beauty of Key West. My brother and I are both in our twenties, and we took our parents on this kayak trip for their first time kayaking. Everyone had a wonderful time. The duration (2.5 hours) and time of day were perfect. As the sun went down, the changing colors in the sky were gorgeous. After sundown, myriad stars filled the sky. I especially enjoyed paddling through the mangrove forests in the dark, with only the lights of our headlamps to guide the way. Our tour guide was James, and he shared his wealth of knowledge on sea life in the Florida keys. He did an amazing job finding wildlife, too. We saw a number of sea birds, manatees, sharks, sea cucumbers, starfish, crabs, lobsters, octopi, sea cucumbers, and even the light of bioluminescent bacteria at the sea floor. We were even able to handle some of the species! It was a blast! I would recommend this kayak tour to anyone of any age who can appreciate some quiet time with nature.

You guys are why we do what we do at Blue Planet. What an outstanding, informative review!

Many folks neglect to mention the spectacular colors of the the sky and the stars we often see. You were lucky to spot manatees, although they have been hanging around as of late.

Hope you come back soon!

Happy trails.

Magical experience - Best outdoor activity - Guide was absolutely fantastic and managed to get the small group to see and touch a lot of various animals living in the area.

Beautiful views of the ocean and the sunset as well.

We strongly recommend it.

We took this tour with our guide James. There were only about 8 of us in total in the group. James was funny and very knowledgeable about marine life. We got to see and touch the following marine creatures -- sea slugs, jelly fish, a horseshoe crab, a conch, a polka-dot batfish and a few other creatures. If the guide asks you if you want to go to the sandbar, say YES! We got to anchor the kayaks and walk around the sandbar where we saw a baby hammerhead shark and a stingray - just AMAZING!

Overall, it were an active, fun and education filled few hours out in the mangroves around key west.

did not see much marine life, a few birds. Not educational as far as the importance of conservation and preservation.

Have only Kayaked once before, but this trip made me want to get right back out there and Kayak the next day! It was peaceful and our guide was so patient with me, even when I kept falling behind the rest of the group (much to the chagrin of my son).

We took the night tour and I would highly recommend this to others. There's not like kayaking at night through the mangroves!

It was a nice experience, a beautiful day, and we had a respectful and knowledgeable guide. The downsize was that the cost was more than what had been printed in the brochure.

I had a good time on this trip. Going through the mangroves was the coolest part. I wish we'd gotten to see a little more, but I wasn't disappointed. We did see sting rays, sea urchins, starfish, and several types of birds. The guide was very informative of the creatures, area, and culture. The kayaking wasn't strenuous at all. The sun was brutal.

First time kayaking and James our tour guide was very helpful. Had no problems paddling around and through the mangroves. James was very knowlegable about the Fl bay and the many animals that live in it. He had a very good eye and pulled the animals up for a close up view. Great trip!

Great for the novice

For someone who hasn't spent much time kayaking, it would be a great trip. It's a slow, leisurely trip through open water and then along mangroves. The guide did pick up sea life along the way and allow people to handle them.

If you are expecting all mangrove tunnels, you will be dissapointed. It's really two hours once you get going, most of it spent along a shoreline looking for fish, birds and shells.

I would recommend this trip for the novice.

Katie took us out and we couldn't have been more happy with our experience. We wanted to stay out forever, or sign up for another tour the next day! We saw a variety of wildlife, she tried to tailor the experience to what we wanted to see most, and was friendly and super informative. Highly recommend to anyone.

Nice follow-up to daylight eco tour
Fri, Nov 11, 11   4:45 PM mitjan Male 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Couple on a Date
My wife, our two adult kids and I did the daylight eco tour in March and thoroughly enjoyed it. My wife and I then did the twilight / evening eco-tour in November and we are very pleased with that experience as well. The water was surprisingly warm and the highlight was the ability to see the bird mangrove before sunset. The group consisted of us and a couple from Los Angeles. Our guide was very knowledgeable, patient and laidback. The daylight eco-tour is a must recommendation for anyone who is interested in kayaking and nature. The sunset event is an excellent follow-up!
