Great way to experience Key West
Fri, Jan 23, 09   5:00 PM macdonp Male 40-49 International Tourist(s) Other
Great way to get to know what is around you in Key West.

Opted for the two person kayek which was useful to chat with your partner as you explore the different areas and follow your guide.

Certainly make sure you keep warm with a few different layers of clothing, ideally, wear some waterproof materials. We got caught with a nearby boat that generated waves that went over the kayek and we got wet, but all apart of the experience.

I would certainly recommend this activity. Enjoy!

Great guide, wonderful up close look at marine lif

The guide was great, the canoes were adequate, and the routes through the mangroves were very interesting.

We had a great time even for a windy day, 20 knot winds. I particularly liked the guide showing us the marine life up close and sometimes in hand. I would recommend this tour to friends. regards Laurence Gray, Kingston, Ontario.

So nice to warm water paddle. Eric was an exceptional guide. Queen conch, red starfish, polka dot batfish, sponges, mangroves, crabs, cormorants, nurse shark, jellyfish, conservation, orienteering, sandbar swimming...great activity for all ages!

The world looks so much better from a kayak:)

Fun & Educational Activity

Great experience, we were picked up at our hotel at the scheduled time, our driver was extremely friendly. Although we were told to bring supplies, water and sunscreen were offered to us, as well as a locker and waterproof bags for our belongings. Our guide, Chris, was patient with everyone's lack of skill and he knew a lot of interesting facts about the area. Although I hate anything to do with boats and water, I didn't feel like I was in danger at all during the excursion. The tour was well worth the cost (which was very reasonable).

Best part of Key West Trip!

This was the best part of our Key West trip. The shuttle picked us up and then we kayaked to and thru a mangrove island on Stock Island. We crossed the channel to a bird island where they were all flying in at sunset for the evening...I cannot begin to tell you how many species of birds that flew just feet away from us. And, (before sunset and after dark) the sea life was amazing in the crystal clear waters as well as on the mangrove trees...sting ray, octopus, starfish, sea cucumber, gar, 3 different types of crabs, several types of sponges, all on the serenity of the sea with a super knowledgeable and nice guide, Chad. My 12 year old daughter had her own kayak. Thanks for making our trip even more special...memories we'll never forget and if we're back in the Keys, we'll definitely be a repeat customer.

Fabulous view of Florida keys ecosystem: Kayaking

In the past, I have had the pleasure of going with Chad, the owner of Blue Planet Kayak Tours, on a daytime tour of the mangrove islands off of Key West. This was a twilight/nighttime tour that exceeded my already high. Chad was a font of information about the bird wildlife, flora, sea creatures and history of the area. This time of day, sunset-to-dark, is special in terms of the types of creatures that both emerge or can be seen more easily than in daytime.........fluorescent worms, light-emitting algae, sea slugs, starfish, sea urchins........and Chad knew where to find them all. Equipped with headlamps, we were able to see into the ecologically rich waters just off of Key West, and the experience was fantastic. I wholeheartedly recommend Blue Planet Tours. You won't regret it, and you WILL learn something new from an expert! Thanks, Chad, for a wonderful time. See you next year.

I'd do it again!

I went with my mom in a tandem kayak and thoroughly enjoyed the sunset kayak tour. It was one of the highlights in our 9 day vacation. The guide was relaxed and approachable, and made the experience amazing. We started the trip in the evening and kayaked around bird island: a small mangrove island the pelicans/cormorants/and other birds have chosen to roost together, and we watched the sunset (which was beautiful), we then donned headlamps and kayaked into a mangrove tunnel. We got to see so many creatures, the guide lifted a sea slug out of the water that released purple ink, a queen conch, a horseshoe crab, a sea star, and a decorating crab. We saw a yellow stingray, mangrove crabs, and a lobster. Not to mention the 3 MANATEES that were in the marina of our launch site. It was a peaceful adventure and want to do it again through the same company next time I'm in Florida!

This tour was a unique opportunity for us to go into the mangroves at night to see and touch many of the creatures that live there.

Great time, great guide

James was a terrific guide who knew all the places to go for great viewing of marine life. We've been kayaking all over the world and this was a very different experience that we both really enjoyed. This was the first time either of us had ever kayaked at nighttime and it was very fun.

The title is misleading -- it's not a romantic kayak trip and there was no full moon (that's only applicable 1 out of 28 days) but it was really a superb trip.

The perfect afternoon in Key West
Sun, Jan 9, 11   1:10 PM LoriKroeter Female 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
We visited Key West early January 2011 ... intending to dive, but visibility was terrible and the water was on the "too cool" side. Instead opted to get out on kayaks. Blue Planet had good ratings on Trip Advisor, so we made a date with them. The guide, Chris, was both a very knowledgeable guide and a great story-teller as well. We had fun paddling through the mangroves learning about Key West nature, history and folk-lore. Saw birds and sea creatures we would have never spotted on land. Hard to believe this other world is just a short kayak trip away from the harbor.

Our group was all adults, but kids could easily handle the trip.

Blue Planet also scored really high with us for being on time at the meeting place and being accommodating when we needed to switch a booked morning tour to afternoon.

Great guide and great animals.

Our guide, James, was amusing and as a Conch, knew his stuff. He found lots of great marine animals for us to check out. He had stories that were fun, but he also talked seriously about ecological issues. Kayaking in the mangroves was particularly an unforgettable experience, and a wonderful way to experience tropical Florida.

The evening kayak tour was great. Our guide was highly knowledable and had a terrific attitude and sense of humor. We learned a lot about the local environment. We enjoyed the Blue Planet kayak tours as much as our Dry Tortugas tour. Highly recomended.
