not exactly what was promised but still cool

The kayak they gave me was way too big for me, and they had smaller ones available. We never made it into the mangroves but just went around the island. Still saw cool stuff though. Also the guide kept us out late which would have been ok if my kayak was more manageable.
Blue Planet Kayak Tours responded:
First let me thank you for going out with us and we are pleased you found the marine life cool. It is true some of our kayaks are slightly larger than others as they are designed for stability. This is beneficial for fishing or larger customers our apology for not putting you in a smaller kayak. The reason we did not go into the mangroves is we couldn't. Very low tides prevented the guide from access to the creeks except for one which he by passed due to time constraints. The low tide helped him find the cool animals on the flats and his pursuit of these led him to run a little over time.

A beautiful, reverent experience

My wife and I took the day and night tours in mid-December, 2011. We live in Minnesota, but grew up in South Florida. The Blue Planet kayak tours allowed us to experience the intricate beauty of the mangrove ecosystem in a completely new way.

I recommend taking both the day and night tours. Either way, you *will* see an abundance of marine life. Here's a partial list of what we had the privilege of seeing: Stingrays, Florida lobster, basket star, brown spiny star, Bahama starfish, red and orange sponges, spotted sea hare, sea cucumber, shrimp (night), octopus (night), blue crabs, ibis, white heron, large conch, bonnethead shark, sea urchins, and stunning bioluminescence (night).

The Blue Planet tour guides are experts on the biology of the plant and animal life that you will encounter, and will answer any questions you have.

Count on a beautiful, reverent experience, day or night. I give the Blue Planet kayak tours my highest recommendation.

The guide was fantastic - very patient with those of us who had never kayaked! The trip was just the right length. He took us to some great areas, and was very good at seeing and finding interesting wildlife for us to view. The small size of the group was also very helpful in getting personalized attention.

I would highly reccomend this trip!

This was a great and unique tour of Key West that I think most tourists don't see. Our guide was fun and knowledgeable and did a great job of finding and pointing out the unique sea life of the keys. We got to hold sea stars, conchs, and even a nurse shark. It was a fun experience, well worth it. Just bring sun screen, you will be in open waters in full sun. Thanks Blue Planet!

This was an enjoyable activity that anyone can participate in. The guide was knowledgable and friendly. Since you are dealing with nature, results are not predictable but the natural beauty of the area is a great start.

One of the Best Kayak Tours we have ever been on

The tour guide was awesome. He was a local Key west Native and grew up on the water. He knew everything about key west and the water. Got to touch a baby shark which was the best part and going through the Man groves was great! Everyone commented that the tour guides knowledge and personality made the tour amazing!

Absolutely best money ever spent on a tour!

Our guide, James (?) was absolutely wonderful! Found lots of different creatures for us to view. My son, 12, absolutely loved the entire time. I think after fees it was $106 for both of us. For 2.5 hours, how much we were able to see, the local information, along with information about the area (water, mango groves, etc)... much better than spending $50+ for maybe 20 minutes on a jet ski where you can't see the sharks swimming underneath you, stingrays swimming by, etc. He paced himself at our speed and let us know when we were heading against a current or going to be using the current to glide along. We will definitely be doing this tour again next time we come out to Key West!!

First off we had a perfect day. Sunny, 80 degrees, and very calm winds.

This helps with ease of paddling and for finding marine critters...

Our guide Katy was fantastic and seemed to really enjoy the experience as much as anyone.

We will definitely do again next year when we return to Key West.

Check the weather conditions, schedule your trip and enjoy..

Terry and Dawn..

This kayaking trip was a peaceful way of exploring the ocean eco-system of Key West. I loved seeing the roosting area at dusk for the local birds, while continuing into night fall, observing the fascinating incubator and it's inhabitants. The grasses and mangroves provide a haven for the most interesting creatures in plant life , sea creatures, and even delicate little fire flies. I loved this trip because it is such a refreshing diversion from usual tourist activities. I strongly recommend this activity for young or old.
