We really enjoyed our tour. The guide was very knowledgable and our trip was great. We would recommend it to any of our friends who travel to Key West.

After dark kayaking a new & exciting experience

The after dark kayaking was a new and exciting experience for me, and one I would recommend for sure.

Blue Planet offered hotel pick up which I took advantage of, their location is quite a distance from downtown Key West. The dock area we launched from was very small, it took a while to get 10 of us in kayaks and on the water. Once we got paddling, our tour guide Jamie showed us many "sea creatures" , with care and expertise. We watched the sun set, then put on our head lamps and paddled easily across the bay. The manouvering thru the mangroves was a fun challenge. To me, the bioluminescent bacteria that light up like fireflies was the highlight, very cool!

Definitely something a little different to do in Key West, away from the crowds on Duval and a chance to learn and appreciate nature's show.

Fun, calm-water kayak trip

Fun, calm water kayak trip with guide knowledgeable about local waters and marine life. Suitable for novice kayakers. That day the navy jets were training around Boca Chica lagoon, which made for a noisy trip... not my favorite thing, although others on my trip rather enjoyed it.

nice trip on the shallow waters of Key West

The kayak trip is relaxing and easy, even for beginners. We saw many birds and some marine animals (snails, clams, anemone, crabs, small fishes, jellyfish). The guide was friendly and explained interesting facts about the habitat we were exploring. Kayaking around the mangroves following narrow paths was fun. On the downside there is quite a lot of waste (plastic, metal, ...) along the tour, I think it would be good to clean it up. Overall an enjoyable way to spend your afternoon.

We will do this again

We just did this last week and we strongly recommend the Sunset tour. James was our friendly guide and in spite of it being only 60 degrees and cloudy we had a great time. We didn't get to see a good sunset but once the sun was down all the critters came out. James was able to find dozens of different animals (conch, starfish, sea cucumber, crab, lobster, octopus, etc) for us to see and sometimes hold. It was a really unique tour and well worth the money. Bring a camera and enjoy!

The marine life kayak tour was a very worthwhile experience. It was interesting and fun. The guide was very knowledgeable and personable. He searched for and found a variety of marine life that he scooped up carefully so we were able to look and touch. The kayaks were comfortable. The 2.5 hours stretched almost to 3 hours because none in our group wanted to leave! I would do this activity again next time I go to the Keys!

Informative and unique experience

I highly recommend this trip. This was the second year in a row that my daughter (a teenager) and I did this kayak trip on Christmas Day at sunset. Chris is an excellent and informative guide, and the sea life you see and views of the coast and mangroves provide a once-in-a-lifetime experience. And kayaing in the pitch dark through the mangroves is not something you will be able to do in too many places. (If you are very tall, though, watch out going under some of the low hanging mangrove branches!! The kayaking itself is not overly strenuous and the equipment is all very new and very easy to use.

Our guide for this trip was Chad. He really seemed like he wanted us to enjoy our trip, and watched carefully for any sea life that he could show us and that we could touch. He took us through many mangroves, and that was, by far, the coolest thing I have ever done on our many trips to Florida!

Fun Kayaking in the mangroves

It has been such a pleasure!

As a first time kayaker I did not know what to expect... having my 6 year old daughter with me on a tandem kayak!

Instructions were clear and easy. As soon as we were in the kayak, we paddled away to the mangroves. So much to discover. We were shown all possible animals on our journey. My daughter was on a mission: a sea star. Not only did she see it but was able to touch it. Our guide made sure she would;) Thanks to Blue Planet Kayak Tours one dream came true. The staff was very welcoming and friendly. We will be back!

Do this if you get a chance. A wonderful experience. It was windy when we went but the kayaking was not hard work and it was so lovely to be out on the water to see the sunset, the sparkles of phosphorescence in the water and the "secret" passages through the mangroves

Easier than expected

I had some concerns that my wife and I could handle two hours of kayaking, but the trip was easy. Our guide paddled gently and stopped often to point out wildlife. We really appreciated being picked up at our hotel. The Kayaks were in good shape and as comfortable as could be expected. After several days of walking around old town Key West it was a pleasure to spend some time with nature.

Just what we were hoping for!

I signed my family up for this tour on our last day in Key West. We had already kayaked a little during the week, and I was craving more. Happily, my family obliged. This was especially nice, because we could drive right to the site, get in our kayaks and go--no taking a bigger boat elsewhere in order to kayak. The mangroves are really special, and there is so much wildlife particular to them. There is always something to see, and our guide was patient and knowledgeable and willing to show us as much as possible, while being responsible toward this special environment. I would love to do a longer excursion the next time I'm in Key West.

Informative, new experience for me

I own a home on a lake, so I timed my kayak tour for when there would be a full moon. Moonlight on water is just awesome. Fortunately the weather cooperated, and our tour was not only informative, but beautiful. The tour guide was mindful of the different levels of experience of the kayakers, and promoted safety the whole time. I would recommend to anyone except the MOST experienced.
