Enjoyed the kayaking

I wish we had seen more wildlife. It was a bit more strenuous than I had thought it would be.
Blue Planet Kayak Tours responded:
It is unfortunate you did not see as much wildlife as hoped for. Conditions such as tide cycle and wind play a singificant role in encountering mobile animals such as fish and birds. Despite protection from the wind provided by the mangroves customers are committing to a 2.5 hr. paddle.

On windy days exposed shallow areas do require more effort and customers should be aware of this. Glad despite these comments your overall experience was positive.

Great experience for first time kayaking

Pace was nice and easy with lots of rests while the guide passed specimens around for the group to see/photograph. Guide was very informative. Small group added to the pleasure of this trip. Our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. We saw starfish, jellyfish, a nurse shark, tree crabs, a living sponge, and a medium size univalve live shellfish, and a couple shore birds and lots of seagrass

Truly enjoyed kayaking through the mangrove trees

Our guide was great and we spent several hours meandering around the shallow waters around Key West and in and out of mangrove forests. Not to miss if you are into a peaceful experience with lots of interesting wildlife and plant information!

We really enjoyed our night on the water. James is extremely knowledgeable about marine life. He went out of his way to find new creatures for us to view. My favorite was the spotted sea hare! Check it out online...when he squeezed it, it released beautiful purple dye. I have never seen anything like it. It was all-around enjoyable.

Our guide was very knowledgeable and showed us so many things about the mangroves and what is below the water level. We had a great time, wonderful way to see the sunset.

My husband I had never been in a kayak before this tour. When we got to the dock, we were given safety instructions and directions in how to use the paddles so we wouldn't be sore the next day. We didn't have any problems at all. The entire experience was not only great fun but it was very educational as well. We had 4 people in our group so everyone was able to ask questions and see all the wonderful surprises in the bay. James was our guide and he was very knowledgeable and easy to talk with. We were picked up at our hotel for a shuttle ride to the dock. The driver was on time and very pleasant and the van was clean. I recommend using the shuttle because the dock could be a little difficult to find it you are from out of town and unfamiliar with the area. The driver was also waiting for us when we got back from the tour and returned us to the hotel. He also had towels on the seats for the return which was an added benefit.

We had a wonderful vacation in Key West but I have to say this was one of the most memorable adventures we had. If we get back to Key West, we will definately do this again.

Fascinating tour of the local waters & mangroves

We've been on this tour twice, and loved it both times. Our 2nd visit, the water was a bit murky because of weather patterns so we didn't see as much sea life as the first time. Both guides did their best to spot sea creatures and bring them above water for a closer look. The sunset from the water is spectacular to behold, and kayaking through the mangroves is fascinating both during the daylight and after dark with headlamps. Seeing the birds flying in to roost on Rookery Island is an amazing sight.

There is a fair bit of paddling required, so be prepared to do some work, especially if there is a bit of a breeze. Two person kayaks are a bit less work, but require working together. If you aren't familiar with paddling, be sure to ask the guide for fairly specific instructions.

I recommend going on a clear water day, if possible, to facilitate a better viewing of ocean life. And, the less breeze, the easier the paddling.

Our guide for this trip was Chad. He really seemed like he wanted us to enjoy our trip, and watched carefully for any sea life that he could show us and that we could touch. He took us through many mangroves, and that was, by far, the coolest thing I have ever done on our many trips to Florida!

I'd go again, tomorrow.

The water is so clear, and Chad was very good about making sure we saw interesting things. We saw an octopus! Right up close! This was a new, and wonderful experience - to paddle at night, using headlamps to see shrimps' eyes glowing. All very satisfying and not a bit difficult. Just be prepared to get wet because the paddle drips on your legs. Bring some dry clothes to change into when you get out.

Our guide, James, was amusing and as a Conch, knew his stuff. He found lots of great marine animals for us to check out. He had stories that were fun, but he also talked seriously about ecological issues. Kayaking in the mangroves was particularly an unforgettable experience, and a wonderful way to experience tropical Florida.

Do this if you get a chance. A wonderful experience. It was windy when we went but the kayaking was not hard work and it was so lovely to be out on the water to see the sunset, the sparkles of phosphorescence in the water and the "secret" passages through the mangroves

So nice to warm water paddle. Eric was an exceptional guide. Queen conch, red starfish, polka dot batfish, sponges, mangroves, crabs, cormorants, nurse shark, jellyfish, conservation, orienteering, sandbar swimming...great activity for all ages!

The world looks so much better from a kayak:)

We had a family group of 12 ranging from 18 to 64. All of us had Kayaked before so we were a bit easier than some groups might be. We wanted as much info as the guide could give us on the wildlife we saw. He was very informed and kept us entertained with the plethora of strange creatures he continued to pull from the waters. It was fun and educational we would go again.
