Fantastic kayak trip Key West
Thu, Apr 24, 14   10:30 AM Tonyxmiller Unspecified Unspecified International Tourist(s) Family Without Children
We booked the trip online only the afternoon before we took it. We were the only people on the trip, which worried me a little initially. But this concern was removed within seconds of sitting in our double kayak. I have paddled competitively before so was not worried about it, but my wife has not done much. We had a great tour. We were taken into the shallows and thru narrow inlets thru mangrove plantations. We saw fish, wild clams, star fish, birds... Amazing. I can't believe how quickly the 2.5 hr trip was over. There was no pressure to paddle but we were able to keep up easily. Frequent stops were made whilst the guide explained stuff. Dry bags were provided and we took our land cameras and used them frequently in the trip. I would whole heatedly recommend this to anybody. Being a left hander, my paddle was either straight or feathered only to the right. But this won't bother most people.

A must do if you like nature

Fun, educational, and amazing. However be prepared to paddle across wide and at times deep bodies of water. Kids may struggle when fighting the winds. After reading other reviews I wish our guide had been Chad. You might want to consider booking when he's the guide.

The Boca Chica tour was great fun. Our guide Sara was very accomodating and knowledgable, and was able to point out a variety of marine life. The trip throuhg the mangrove forest was relaxing and peaceful, and this was a highlight of our trip. We can't wait to go back for another.

Great tour of mangroves and ocean life

This tour included parts inside the mangroves (where we went though passages only three feet across) and out on the open water. The two and a half hours included more real paddling than I expected -- it was a bit of a workout. The guide was fantastic at finding creatures (anenome, conch, etc.) which she would pluck from the bottom and pass around the group while telling us about them. Highly recommended.

Fun kayak trip!

We booked the sunset kayak trip because it was something different and we really enjoyed it. One thing that made the trip fun was that it was at low tide so it was easier to see things in the water and for the guide to find critters to show. Because the moon wasn't too bright we were able to see the bioluminescence, which was really neat.

When we first met our guide James, I was a bit turned off my his abrupt (and I thought a bit rude) attitude but he did a good job during the trip so in the end it was fine.

You can either be picked up in the van or meet the van and follow them to the launch site. The van was really late maybe because they had to pick up a lot of people and it was ok to follow them because we were the only car but I could see if you had a lot of cars it would be easy to lose people. Seems like there has got to be a better meeting place closer to the launch site. The best thing about having the car is that you can just leave after and don't have to wait for everyone.

A great day with nature

Our guide, Sarah, was great. We were in a group with families with children and a grandparent. The excursion was appropriate for everyone. Sarah explained the wildlife that we saw and made it as hands on as possible. As jet skiers flew by we agreed that what we were doing was much more fun and interesting.

Thank-you to our tour guide Katie for a wonderful time! It was such a fascinating and great educational experience on this tour. To kayak through the mangroves in complete darkness was simply fascinating! Highly recommended for those that like a unique kayak adventure and the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful Key West sunset!!

Kayaking: Great way to spend a morning in Key West
Mon, Oct 7, 13   10:30 AM 2fromCanada Male 50-59 International Tourist(s) Family Without Children
Our experience was excellent from start to finish. It began when they picked us up at the cottage we were renting in downtown Key West. The van was waiting for us outside at exactly the time that was specified. We went in the morning (pick up around 9:45 am and were returned before 1 pm - just in time to go out for a nice lunch).

We were thrilled to get a personal tour - we were the only 2 people in our group! (Apparently not an unusual bonus when in Key West in low season....Sept/Oct) We took a 2 person kayak - I paddled and my wife took pictures. While we made this choice because my wife has a shoulder injury and we weren't sure she could paddle for 2 hours, given half would be against the wind and the tide, it turned out to be a great decision because her hands were free for picture taking. I would recommend this. We got some great ones which we'll send to Sara to post on facebook. Sara, our guide, allowed us to poke along at our own speed and was very knowledgable about the local plants and sea life.

We handled sea urchins and a star fish, and saw egrets, blue herons, a white heron, jelly fish, sea anomones, a small spotted stingray, a small nurse shark and the highlight - a huge manatee that came right up to the kayak and stayed to visit for several minutes.

The mangroves are very interesting to paddle through and the whole experience was calm and relaxing. You don't have to go very far to see everything. Of course, you never know what you'll see on any given day....I think we got lucky to see all the sea life that we encountered. We enjoyed it very much and highly recommend it. It was a great way to spend a morning in Key West.

incredible experience

wonderful time, sarah was an informed and enthusiastic guide, showed us an incredible number of ocean inhabitants and presented a wealth of information about the area.

I have gushed excessively since my return from the keys and let friends know this was the highlight of my trip.

my daughter and son-in-law were not as adventurous as I in handling the critters sarah had netted for our inspection but they did take lots of pictures including the adolescent nurse shark nick posted on your facebook web page.

thanks for a wonderful experience

Not romantic
Sun, May 26, 13   7:15 PM gsfrye Female 30-39 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
I would not describe our experience as romantic at all. Leader was somewhat demanding and even appeared annoyed when we couldn't move fast enough in our kayaks to see something she pointed out in the water. There was not much opportunity to take pictures, especially together. Overall the experience was very edcational and interesting but should not be advertised as romantic.
