Informative, but not at all scary

My husband and I did the tour and were a bit disappointed. I had read some reviews before purchasing my tickets, but I guess I didn't read through enough. Although the guide was very informative we were not able to go inside of most rooms nor tour the entire building. Personally, I did not witness any supernatural activity nor did I find the tour to be at all scary. But I will say this: It was a good tour of a historical building and our guide was very knowledgable. If you don't have much else to do I would definitely recommend this tour as a simple night time excursion. On the other hand, if you're looking to be seriously frightened, you won't find that on this tour.

Having visited Charleston in '97 and walking past this building, we were happy to learn there was a tour that allowed access to the inside. The tour guide was very good with her narration and history of the building. Her stories suggest that the building may likely be haunted, but we didn't get an overall sense that there is much activity there.

We simply didn't find the experience to be much on the scary side, but we weren't there to be scared, we simply wanted a chance to see the interior of the building since it intrigued us so many years ago. The use of minimal or red lighting and the presence of a reproduction punishment device attempted to make the building more creepy, but the necessary renovations undertaken by the college that now owns it, reduced any feeling of creepiness.

Overall we were happy with the tour just by seeing the interior and gaining understanding of what the prisoners there had to endure.

Unfortunately we did not encounter any spirits but still enjoyed the tour. The building itself is very eerie with lots of history. Our guide was very enthusiastic and informative.

Old Jail Tour - fun and informative

We have lived in Charleston for 2 years and finally got a chance to do this tour. Our guide Glenn, was very good and knew the history of the place completely. We brought our own ghost hunting tools like a EMF detector, digital recorder and infrared thermometer. We actually noticed some EMF spikes that had us wondering. I tried to debunk the readings, but could not. The history about the place was probably the best part. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5, because of the value ratio. It was $20 per person, but it was over in 45 minutes or less.

We had a great tour with Glenn. His stories were interesting and informative. The only drawback is that I wish the tour were longer with more stories and more areas of the Jail to see. Thanks for a great time.

We went on Hallowen and I though the tour had a lot of great information. The guide was a man who was knowlegable and likeable. He made the tour informative and spooky without it being to over the top. I'm a chicken at heart and was concerned about peeing my pants. However I was plesantly suprised and would really recommend it to anyone. However a shuttle would have been nice becasue walking in the dark alone to get there sucked.

My husband and I chose Charleston for our honeymoon. One of the first things we did was this jail tour. Glen was an amazing guide and storyteller. Our favorite part was the amazing history of the jail and those who resided there. The 45 minutes flew by. Wish we had more time for more history but it was awesome!

Interesting trip inside the Old Charleston Jail. More historical than ghostly, but a good mix. Really enjoyed it.
