Was very disappointed.

I have taken a walking ghost tour with Bull Dog Tours before and really enjoyed it. When I found out my husband and some friends were heading down to Charleston, I couldn't wait to suggest we all take another Haunted Tour. This tour was no where near as entertaining or at all worth the money. We were taken in a total of 3 identical, empty rooms where we were told some history and stories about the former inhabitants. The prison is being remodeled or refurbished so they were literally plywood floors and nothing at all in each room to show us what it was used for. Also, a school is using the prison during the way and nothing takes the allure of the Haunted tour away than a bulletin board with upcoming school events. This building could have been built 10 years ago, those of us on the tour would be none the wiser. Our group spent 80$ on this tour and felt completely ripped off. I did enjoy the guide as he seemed to have a lot of knowledge about the prison, but in its current state the history did not seem believable. I did enjoy Bulldog Tours in the past, but would be much more careful, reading reviews and doing some background research, before I paid another 20$ per person for this kind of tour.

I am so sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy the Haunted Jail Tour. The American College of the Building Arts occupies the building during the day. We are actually grateful to them for making the building safe for us to tour in. Before they occupied the building, it was not safe to do tours, but they have refurbished some of the jail remaining respectful to the time period that we try to portray during our tours. The building definitely is not remodeled to have a present day appearance. We do have to have some lights in the building for safety reasons, but the building is much like it was in the early 20th century. I'm glad you liked your tour that you did in the past. I am sorry though that this tour did not live up to your expectations. I do hope you will give us another chance in the future.

One of the better ghost tours I've been on. The guide was ok not great but the jail itself is spooky enough to make it fun.

The history and the horrors that went on in that building were incredible and being able to walk through and "feel" the experience was awesome. The guide was excellent. You could tell he really cared about the history of the place. Would have loved to see ghosts, but no such luck!

A little short

A little short for the price. I wanted it to be 1 hr long and show a bit more than 2 rooms. Guide talked too fast.
Bulldog Tours responded:
Sorry to hear about your experience. We do 8 tours per night of the jail so a 45 minute tour has proven to be the best amount of time to do a tour and still be able to offer it to more people. Most tour guides do show about 4 rooms so I am surprised to hear that you only did 2. Please contact us if you could let us know who your guide was so that we could provide him/her with this feedback.

Informative tour in a very creepy setting. Guide was friendly & knew the facts. I did see something very strange inside the jail- a large ball of light flying up a set of stairs. Would not recommend for young children, under 15. Why expose a child to stories of death , torture & human suffering? There is enough of that in the real world.
