Good on History - short on ghosts
Sat, Jun 6  10:30 PM dtoredson Male 60-69 Domestic Tourist(s) Couple on a Date
Very good historical view of some rough times in Charleston past. Would of liked apparitions, bending doors, footsteps in the hall ... no such luck on our trip. Maybe ...just maybe ...the next time
Bulldog Tours responded:
Glad you liked the tour. Sorry that we can't guarantee ghosts! I wish we could! We do encourage taking pictures though. So many people come back with orbs in their shots. Thanks for the review.

Felt a little short changed.

The fact that the prison is so large and went in 4 rooms. One of which is being used by a college. A drunk girl ruined it. Arriving sober should be required. I thought the tour would of covered more. Would like to do a more lengthy tour but prices are ridiculous. Infirmary and kitchens should be part of the tour. Huge letdown.
Bulldog Tours responded:
I'm so sorry you were disappointed. Did you contact us for a refund? We certainly would have been happy to work with you on that. Yes, the American College of Building Arts occupies the building during the day. I'm sorry if that was disturbing for you. Sometimes people do unfortunately drink before going on the tour and there really isn't much we can do about that, especially since the tours are at night. We do and have had to ask people to leave the tour if they were being rude or disruptive. Our prices are competitive with other attractions in Charleston and are actually much less expensive than carriage tours. Sorry you were let down. We would be happy to give you comp tickets for a more lengthy tour if you would like. Just contact us. Thank you again.

Great Experience

Sean did a wonderful job explaining the history of the jail. Because of the conditions of the jail one can understand the reasons some souls would choose to haunt it. I would recommend this tour.

Haunted Jail Tour

We had a great tour guide who provided interesting historical facts combined with folk-lore. Don't sign up if you are looking for any commentary on the penal system, slavery, or anything of substance - but it was spooky and fun for families.

It will make your hair stand on end

The graphic description of what transpired in that building will make you feel like it is still going on around you. There are rooms in the jailhouse that will just make you feel uneasy. It is something to experience if you are in the area.

I think that it might have been fun if the others in the group ( and not everyone) had not been trying to scare each other and playing grab ass. All they wanted to do was talk and giggle and it was hard to hear the guide especially when he would turn and talk to the people on the other side of the room. I think the guide was very knowledgeable, maybe a little to dramatic

but made it interesting
Bulldog Tours responded:
I'm sorry you had some other disturbing people on the tour with you. That does happen from time to time and we unfortunately have no way of knowing that ahead of time. I'm glad you liked the tour otherwise. We would have been happy to issue you a refund if you had a bad time on the tour. Just let us know. Sorry again for your experience. We do hope you try again sometime.

Bulldog Tours responded:
Thank you for the feedback. We are sorry if the American College of Building Arts' students' work got in the way of you enjoying the tour. We will definitely take your suggestion of pictures and aids into consideration. We are sorry that you thought the tour seemed cheapened in any way. Thank you for the feedback. We do hope you try this tour or another tour with us in the near future.

A great tour but a touristy tour!
Fri, May 22  9:00 PM Bdeve073 Female 20-29 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
This was a great tour! A little short and on the cheesy side but definitely worth it if you're in charleston for a night or two. Tour guide was informative but sounded quite scripted. I mean, what do you expect though.. A "haunted" jail tour, you have to expect it to be a tourist trap!
Bulldog Tours responded:
Guests to the city do like this tour, but locals do as well so we don't consider it a tourist trap. We have the utmost respect for the building and its history. We hope that we didn't come off as scripted and cheesy and we are sorry if it seemed that way. Thank you for recommending us though. We do appreciate it as we think this is a must-do while visiting Charleston as well.

Tour guide expells drunkard from tour
Sat, May 16  9:00 PM TrentonC Female 40-49 Domestic Tourist(s) Group of Friends
Our guide was very good-

There was a situation with a very drunk man in our group and the guide addressed the man in a very professional and cool way! He asked the man to leave and said there was no way he would let him go into the jail -

My daughter and I had a very unique experience.
