Exceeded Expectations... & they were pretty high!

I totally recommend the Helter Skelter tour regardless if you're a Manson novice or expert! What an awesome experience to drive the same roads & visit the homes & establishiments touched by this historical event. Scott is an encyclopedia of 60's knowledge & of Laurel Canyon lore! A real treat for 1960's buffs like myself or anyone wanting to know more about the history in & around Hollywood, Benedict Canyon, Laurel Canyon & all those great '60's era landmarks. Totally entertaining & educational - I look forward to coming back next year!

Scott provides a very entertaining tour with his own commentary, audio supplements, still photos and video. I loved seeing all the places which I had already read so much about. He even provided directions out to Spahn Ranch which I went and saw as well (not part of the tour). His love of what he does is readily apparent and which adds greatly to the overall experience.

A Must See in Los Angeles!

I've first saw Helter Skelter on TV back in 1976 when it first aired. I've read the book about 5 times. Have always wanted to take this tour but I live in Florida and rarely get out to California. My last trip to California was ten years ago! Well now in 2013 I needed to be in San Diego for about 10 days but only had 1 free day to spend. Luck was on my side because August 8th was my free day and that was the anniversary of Helter Skelter murders. I booked my spot back in April to make sure i got in because I knew it would sell out. I was lucky again when I got to Dearly Departed's location and learned that Scott Michaels would be giving the tour. Scott is so knowledgeable about this case and all the locations. He plays music from that era. Shows slides and videos too. Answers questions. Slows down and stops at important places so you can take photos. You even get a small keepsake to take home. A small piece of stone from the actual fireplace of the Tate house. If you are in Los Angeles. Take this tour !!!!!!!!

I have to admit that even though I've read "Helter Skelter", seen both made for TV movies, and read other publications on the Manson murders, I still learned quite a bit more from this excellent tour! Scott Michaels who narrates the excellent "Six Degrees of Helter Skelter", conducted this tour and shared his knowledge of the Tate-LaBianca murders and provided interesting extra information that we didn't know about from the books and the movies. The tour is 3 and a 1/2 hours and takes you to both the Tate and LaBianca residences but there is so much more. All I can say is that if you have any interest on this subject then this is a great tour to take - I loved it!

We really enjoyed the Helter Skelter tour. Our guide/owner Scott Michaels was very knowledgeable and the tour was very enjoyable. He provided a lot of detailed information which could be lost on the casual tourist who hasn't read much on the individuals involved in the Tate/LaBianca murders. But since I was familiar with the crimes and players involved (I had read several books on the subject), I thoroughly enjoyed the 3.5 hour long tour. Two of my friends who were also on the tour didn't enjoy it as much as I did because Scott gave such an abundance of details regarding the suspects. We also saw parts of the city and learned details that I would not have seen on my own. Overall, I would highly recommend this tour if you're curious about the most heinous crimes in the 60's.

Worth Your Time

I had previously taken the Hollywood Tragical History with Richard as the guide/driver. So, this is my second trip with DD Tours. I was interested in taking The Helter Skelter Tour because I had previously seen Scott Michaels' DVD, "Six Degrees of Helter Skelter". In fact, Scott led this tour and is one of the best tour guides I have ever had the good fortune to experience. He has a wealth of knowledge about Manson and his Family and the events of August 1969 and communicates it effectively and comprehensively within the confines of the 3.5 hour tour. The video and audio clips he played added to the overall quality of the presentation. Scott treated all of the tour members very well both with respect and attentiveness. His enthusiasm for the subject matter is clear. If you are in the Los Angeles area and are at all interested in taking a "trip" back to the Summer of 1969, Scott's tour is well worth your time....you will not be disappointed.

I was familiar with the Manson murders, but I realized after this tour that I really didn't know much. Scott (our tour guide) really was so informative and I liked his sense of humor. Plus, we saw a lot of Los Angeles that I had never seen before....and I'm a local. I would definitely recommend this tour.

A Must for True Crime Zealots

True crime fans as well as those interested in Hollywood history and show business must, must, must take this tour. There are so many connections to show business people, and so many creepy "six degrees of separation" that Scott will tell you about. You will see an amazing number of key locations and homes and will have some audio-visual information offered during the drive. The Dearly Departed Museum and shop must be visited, too, before or after your tour. Relics and photos galore! For those who are timid, the tour has ghoulish thrills, but overall mood and manner is that of deepest respect for the victims along with the urgent desire to keep this tragic part of California history remembered. Love, Peace, and Joy! Auntie Ann : - )

This was a wonderful tour. Scott was entertaining and informative. He knows his stuff. Not a cheesy or macabre tour, but historically relevant and meaningful. I've followed this case for several years but I learned I know very little about the case even after studying extensively on my own. Highly recommend!
