So freaking awesome!

So first of all let me just say that Scott is incredible and never ending wealth of information on all things related to this case, Hollywood history, and many many other fascinating things. We had a group of 9 on a bachelorette party this weekend and although 3 of them had already been on this tour previously they enjoyed it even more than the first time. He gave different information, included a few more sites and basically tries to make your experience the best it can be. Although this tour isn't for everyone, I think most people who are generally interested in this case or just in how people lived and died in hollywood would enjoy it. I've been on the tragical history tour as well and LOVED that one just as much. You can't go wrong with this company and you absolutely get your money's worth. The bottom line is if you're on the fence about going this tour is SO much better than any other Hollywood "lets go see the stars" kinda thing. Its just way more awesome and interesting. So you should do it. Thanks for making this a day we won't ever forget Scott!

At first I wasn't sure if I was going to like the Helter Skelter tour, as I was going for a friend's bachelorette party and knew very little about the La Bianca/Sharon Tate/etc... murders. I can't even begin to tell you how informative and FUN this tour was! Our tour guide was Scott who was not only highly educated on the subject but made the tour more than just visiting the places where the murders took place and the paths the manson family took to get to them. I can't wait to come back and take this tour again with my mom. Highly, highly recommended! I couldn't stop talking about the tour (and still can't!).

An Excellent and Well Researched Tour

I was extremely impressed with the Helter Skelter tour. As something of a scholar of these sad but historic events that still impact our culture today, I found Scott Michaels' compassionet presentation very informative. He does an excellent job of fitting the events of the Manson Family murders into the context of the time in which they occured. His knowledge of the material is excellent and his personal insights make the trip worthwhile by themselves. Have at least a minimal knowledge of the events prior to taking this tour just to be sure the subject matter is appropriate for you but any fans of history and culture should find it very enjoyable. Highly recommended.

A very informative tour about the Manson Murders

My friends and I really enjoyed the tour for the most part. Our guide was very informative and knowledgeable about the subject, and even provided additional information about the background and whereabouts of the victims just prior to their untimely deaths. The only somewhat unfortunate things about the tour were that the air conditioning on the tour bus could have been a lot better on such a hot day, and that some information, such as where Charles "Tex" Watson's gun landed - or where the Tate house victims' last meal was - tended to be a tad excessive. Other than those very minor things - the tour was a lot of fun, and I'd highly recommend it to anyone who has an interest in the Manson Murders.

A must for anyone interested in the Manson case. Lots of new info,

Even for someone who has read a fair amount about the case. I strongly suggest purchasing

The "six degrees of Helter Skelter" DVD, gives lots of info covered on the tour

I haven't seen elsewhere.

The Highlight of Our LA Trip
Sat, Aug 17, 13   9:00 AM tempelton Male 30-39 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
This is our second Dearly Departed tour (we did the Tragical History Tour in 2011), and once again we found this to be the highlight of our trip to LA.

Scott really knows his material and it's clear that he has a passion for the history of the City of Angels. Yes, that passion is undoubtedly for the darker side of the city, but it's clear that while certainly an expert on all matters Manson-related, Scott is clearly no morbid obsessive. Rather, he's interested in telling the stories and seeking out the details of what went on all those years ago - and hey, isn't a city with lots of secrets to tell anyway?

The tour - which takes place on a comfy air conditioned bus - provides you with a space to learn more about the subject and also, if you want, to offer your two cents too. Using a combination of multimedia, narration and obviously the sites of the murders, and associated places, this tour will fascinate and enthrall anyone who loves a good mystery (because yes, there are still some lingering mysteries surrounding the case, as you will learn).

There's also much else to see along the way, with stunning views of and forays into the Hollywood Hills, including Laurel Canyon, as well as views of Paramount Studios and other interesting sites.

I guess the reason we keep coming back to Dearly Departed is because we sense that, Scott (and no doubt his fellow tour guides, though I have not done any tours with them yet) really is passionate about storytelling and about giving you a great experience. Believe me, if you are interested in the darker side of LA-LA-Land, then this tour will thrill you to your core.

We are already planning our next trip to LA, with the Dearly Departed Halloween Tour hopefully forming the centerpiece to that journey.

Long may Dearly Departed reign!
