A very informative tour about the Manson Murders

My friends and I really enjoyed the tour for the most part. Our guide was very informative and knowledgeable about the subject, and even provided additional information about the background and whereabouts of the victims just prior to their untimely deaths. The only somewhat unfortunate things about the tour were that the air conditioning on the tour bus could have been a lot better on such a hot day, and that some information, such as where Charles "Tex" Watson's gun landed - or where the Tate house victims' last meal was - tended to be a tad excessive. Other than those very minor things - the tour was a lot of fun, and I'd highly recommend it to anyone who has an interest in the Manson Murders.

A must for anyone interested in the Manson case. Lots of new info,

Even for someone who has read a fair amount about the case. I strongly suggest purchasing

The "six degrees of Helter Skelter" DVD, gives lots of info covered on the tour

I haven't seen elsewhere.

The Highlight of Our LA Trip
Sat, Aug 17, 13   9:00 AM tempelton Male 30-39 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
This is our second Dearly Departed tour (we did the Tragical History Tour in 2011), and once again we found this to be the highlight of our trip to LA.

Scott really knows his material and it's clear that he has a passion for the history of the City of Angels. Yes, that passion is undoubtedly for the darker side of the city, but it's clear that while certainly an expert on all matters Manson-related, Scott is clearly no morbid obsessive. Rather, he's interested in telling the stories and seeking out the details of what went on all those years ago - and hey, isn't a city with lots of secrets to tell anyway?

The tour - which takes place on a comfy air conditioned bus - provides you with a space to learn more about the subject and also, if you want, to offer your two cents too. Using a combination of multimedia, narration and obviously the sites of the murders, and associated places, this tour will fascinate and enthrall anyone who loves a good mystery (because yes, there are still some lingering mysteries surrounding the case, as you will learn).

There's also much else to see along the way, with stunning views of and forays into the Hollywood Hills, including Laurel Canyon, as well as views of Paramount Studios and other interesting sites.

I guess the reason we keep coming back to Dearly Departed is because we sense that, Scott (and no doubt his fellow tour guides, though I have not done any tours with them yet) really is passionate about storytelling and about giving you a great experience. Believe me, if you are interested in the darker side of LA-LA-Land, then this tour will thrill you to your core.

We are already planning our next trip to LA, with the Dearly Departed Halloween Tour hopefully forming the centerpiece to that journey.

Long may Dearly Departed reign!

If you are at all interested in the Manson Family murders of the 60's , this is the tour for you. Scott was a fountain of knowledge regarding all aspects of the Manson case. The tour covers all the local sites during the mayhem . Period music is played along with newsreel footage that puts you back into 1969.Great experience I cant say enough. My 17 year old daughter and I loved it. !Thanks, Scott!!!!

I totally recommend the Helter Skelter tour regardless if you're a Manson novice or expert! What an awesome experience to drive the same roads & visit the homes & establishiments touched by this historical event. Scott is an encyclopedia of 60's knowledge & of Laurel Canyon lore! A real treat for 1960's buffs like myself or anyone wanting to know more about the history in & around Hollywood, Benedict Canyon, Laurel Canyon & all those great '60's era landmarks. Totally entertaining & educational - I look forward to coming back next year!

Scott provides a very entertaining tour with his own commentary, audio supplements, still photos and video. I loved seeing all the places which I had already read so much about. He even provided directions out to Spahn Ranch which I went and saw as well (not part of the tour). His love of what he does is readily apparent and which adds greatly to the overall experience.

A Must See in Los Angeles!

I've first saw Helter Skelter on TV back in 1976 when it first aired. I've read the book about 5 times. Have always wanted to take this tour but I live in Florida and rarely get out to California. My last trip to California was ten years ago! Well now in 2013 I needed to be in San Diego for about 10 days but only had 1 free day to spend. Luck was on my side because August 8th was my free day and that was the anniversary of Helter Skelter murders. I booked my spot back in April to make sure i got in because I knew it would sell out. I was lucky again when I got to Dearly Departed's location and learned that Scott Michaels would be giving the tour. Scott is so knowledgeable about this case and all the locations. He plays music from that era. Shows slides and videos too. Answers questions. Slows down and stops at important places so you can take photos. You even get a small keepsake to take home. A small piece of stone from the actual fireplace of the Tate house. If you are in Los Angeles. Take this tour !!!!!!!!
