A fact filled tour by Richard

The only improvement we could suggest would be that you have a tour bus that has an open top. It would make picture taking much better. Many times we could not see the fact location on the opposite side of the bus.

Great tour to take when you first arrive in LA. Gives historical context to the Hollywood area. Informative without being boring! Will definitely recomend!

This tour was an interesting combination of Hollywood tragedies and L.A. history. It was very informative, and it was cool to see the actual locations where various celebrities have died. Brian Donnelly, our guide, was entertaining, and you could tell he loved to give this tour. He had quite a wealth of knowledge and trivia about L.A. The only complaints I have were that I didn't know a lot of the people he was talking about and you only get off the bus once for a restroom break. The tour would certainly be improved if there were other stops along the way. Overall, it was a fun tour and a good value. On an eery side note, while we were on the tour we learned that Ray Manzarek from The Doors had died which was apropos for the occasion of this tour.

A Tour Above the Rest

This tour was fascinating and fun. We learned so much about so many different places. We also saw a few I didn't expect to see. The tour guide was a wealth of information. Also, make sure to get there early to explore the Dearly Departed Tours office. It is well worth it. The shop next door has wonderful food if you're early and hungry. Also, the tour van is nice and comfortable. I was so happy we weren't out in the sun and heat. A great value for the money and well worth the time.

guide said Mae west lived in Penthouse at Ravenswood apt.I knew her and she just had a regular 2 bedroom apt and it was an end apt.The only difference was she had a heavy duty metal door installed with six dead bolts because she was afraid of kidnapping. If the guide didn't have the correct information about that how do we know if the other info was correct about the other sites?

We had Brian as our tour guide. He obviously had a great deal of knowledge about Hollywood history as well as enthusiasm about it. He made the tour!

He told us a few stories about famous Hollywood crimes, deaths, murders, etc and showed us the places where they happened, as well as threw in other random trivia bits and showed us celeb. homes that were along the way. I have to admit I have never heard of half of the people he talked about about, never-the-less it was fun, interesting, and entertaining.

I highly recommend

Probably the best guided tour ever

Brian was clearly born to be a Hollywood tour guide and it's hard to imagine anyone could be better. He does the research, pays attention to the interests of tour participants and blends in just the right amount of humor, while others just tell tales. I took a tour with this organization's predecessor, Grave Line, back in the early 1990s, and the Dearly Departed tour turned out to be almost entirely different (new) material. Highly recommended!

This tour was totally informative and fun ! Touring these glamorous spots and hearing thse tragedies is just too interesting, like seeing a train wreck, although morbid but somehow fascinating! Bad things are described with a little humor and fun,I totally reccomend this tour for anyone who enjoys the hu

mor found in scandal ! Its like a "Jerry Springer Show On wheels" only better !

Highlight of our trip to LA. Equally enjoyed by 53 year old me and my 17 year old son. Good mix of relatively recent (last couple of decades) and classic (50's-60's) movie selections. Seeing the actual clips of the movie scenes as you stop--the van actually stops (although you don't get out) at the locations and doesn't just drive by--at each location adds immensely to the experience. You also see a few stars' homes in addition.

A fringe benefit of taking the tour is seeing beautiful LA residential neighborhoods--e.g., Hancock Park, Los Feliz--that you might otherwise miss, where the houses aren't behind hedges or gates.

A bathroom break is provided mid-way through the trip, but that is actually the only negative thing I have to say about the tour. The break is at a McDonald's whose restroom facilities are poorly maintained and apparently frequented by street people. Suggestion to tour operator: please find another place for the bathroom break.
