Interesting and educational tour of old Hollywood.

I was a little disappointed in the tour. I guess I was expecting more crime scenes. The OJ case was never touched upon not any of the major serial killers, ie Richard Ramirez, etc. What about the original Superman? I just think I would have liked to learn more about the tragic side of old Hollywood.

Although I missed seeing Scott again, Richard did a fantastic job on our tour!! You've added quite a few other places since the last tour I took..it was fun as usual!!

This tour was highly entertaining tour, not as macabre as you might think but definitely for adults. Richard was an excellent tour guide, very knowledgeable, and a good storyteller. His love for the area was obvious, and his insights gave a more complete history of the events and locations on the tour. A great time, highly recommended!

I lived in LA till I was 30, and just came back for a visit. I never took a sightseeing tour before, but I thought my friend would enjoy it. We both had a blast!

Highly recommended comprehensive tour

I've done tours in LA before before which were pretty average and so I was a bit apprehensive about shelling out money for yet another tour. I asked around and this one was recommended to me by an american friend who said it was the only one they would recommend.

The tour included not just murder and death sites but celebrity homes, movie locations, and key Hollywood landmarks, so it was everything wrapped into one tour. Our tour guide really knew his stuff and was happy to include other requested locations in the tour if time allowed. He was friendly and professional and really really knew his stuff and was clearly passionate about what he did. His knowledge of some of the more obscure locations and events showed how much work had gone into hunting down stories and locations.

All in all this tour was fantastic value for money, riveting from start to finish, and highly recommended.

By far the best tour we have been on!

This was the best tours yet! (way better than TMZ). We did this as a team building work activity and we all loved it. Brian (our guide) showed us not just the ...bad and the ugly, but the good too! He is super knowledgeable about the area and very personable. This tour did not focus on the morbid, it emphasize the history of the area and memorialized those who have passed. It also set straight many of those urban legends about how and where people actually died. Can't wait to take my visiting guest on this tour! Thanks for a great afternoon!!!

Helter Skelter Tour

I took the Tragic History tour from DD last year and really enjoyed it. I was hoping that the Helter Skelter tour would be as good. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this tour for anyone who has just a casual interest in the topic. The tour guide is knowledgeable and obviously passionate about this subject but some of the sites pointed out are just inconsequential (or irrelevant) to the overall story. The tour is long, around 4 hours, and in my opinion should be cut down to a more manageable time. If you have read everything about the Manson family and are really interested in seeing everything then this is the tour for you. If you are just a little curious, take the other tour - it's way more interesting.

Tour was amazing and had so much information and sights we didn't know about. Tour Guide was very nice and funny, I think he even showed us some extra things. Loved the tour, wish we had time to take all the tours they offer, but there's always next year!! Money Well Spend!!

A lot of references were geared towards individuals in their 40's and 50's. This would be great for them. Overall not bad but for someone in early 30's I didn't know a lot of the people the guide mentioned

We had the best time on this tour. Brian is a wealth of knowledge and made the whole experience so much fun. I've already referred the tour to other people and want to go again. Even after living in LA for 30+ years, there were so many new things I learned.

Review of Dearly Departed Hollywood Tour

Richard was our tour guide and provided an interesting tour...very knowledgable. The only negative about the tour was the van air conditioner doesn't work very well and made the tour somewhat uncomfortable. Enjoyed going by the house where Michael Jackson died. Wished we would have gone by the house where the Tate murders happened and the house where Marilyn Monroe died.

Depends on the tour guide and group size

My first experience with Dearly Departed tours was the movie bus ride, where they show you clips on the different films and then take you to the locations where those scenes were shot. It was a wonderful tour, and Brian was our tour guide. He was very friendly, gave us plenty of opportunity to ask questions, and even showed us some extras (it was just my friend and I on this tour). This most recent experience was the Dearly Departed tour, and Richard was our tour guide. He was much less enthusiastic and he only gave us a chance to ask questions one time throughout the tour. I had many questions throughout, but there was no moment of silence to ask them. Many of the sites that were shown to us were "outdated". In other words, actors and actresses that we didn't care about. It would have been a good tour for elderly people, but seems like they need to update their sites. Also, be forewarned that you don't get to see anything for OJ Simpson, and you don't see anything from Black Dahlia other than where one of her potential killers used to live. They said it was too far.

Insightful and Entertaining View of Hollywood

My wife and I had a wonderful time on the tour. It was fascinating - giving the seedy, strange and deadlier aspects of Hollywood and it's inhabitants from the early days to recent times. Scott was friendly and very knowledgeable. This tour was the highlight of our trip. We just wished it could have lasted even longer.
