Review of Dearly Departed Hollywood Tour

Richard was our tour guide and provided an interesting tour...very knowledgable. The only negative about the tour was the van air conditioner doesn't work very well and made the tour somewhat uncomfortable. Enjoyed going by the house where Michael Jackson died. Wished we would have gone by the house where the Tate murders happened and the house where Marilyn Monroe died.

Depends on the tour guide and group size

My first experience with Dearly Departed tours was the movie bus ride, where they show you clips on the different films and then take you to the locations where those scenes were shot. It was a wonderful tour, and Brian was our tour guide. He was very friendly, gave us plenty of opportunity to ask questions, and even showed us some extras (it was just my friend and I on this tour). This most recent experience was the Dearly Departed tour, and Richard was our tour guide. He was much less enthusiastic and he only gave us a chance to ask questions one time throughout the tour. I had many questions throughout, but there was no moment of silence to ask them. Many of the sites that were shown to us were "outdated". In other words, actors and actresses that we didn't care about. It would have been a good tour for elderly people, but seems like they need to update their sites. Also, be forewarned that you don't get to see anything for OJ Simpson, and you don't see anything from Black Dahlia other than where one of her potential killers used to live. They said it was too far.

Insightful and Entertaining View of Hollywood

My wife and I had a wonderful time on the tour. It was fascinating - giving the seedy, strange and deadlier aspects of Hollywood and it's inhabitants from the early days to recent times. Scott was friendly and very knowledgeable. This tour was the highlight of our trip. We just wished it could have lasted even longer.

We rented out the entire bus for a friend's birthday. It was the best! The 3 hours flew by, we learned a lot of stuff we didn't know (our guide was super knowledgeable) and there was even some sightseeing on the tour that was non-tragedy related. A fun time was had by all!

The best tour I've ever taken on a vacation!

I may be a little overly enthustiastic due to my fascination with the Manson Family, but this was the most friendly facinating, and fact filled tour I've ever taken. Scott Michaels who personally hosted the tour was a gentlemen and class act. He really knows his facts about the area. I was slightly skeptical asking my mother and sisters to join me on the Helter Skelter tour at my prompting, but they really enjoyed it and even thanked me for finding this gem of tour in the L.A. area. The Helter Skelter tour should not to be missed if you have the slightest interest in the 60's scene in California, tragic Hollywood, rock stars, and the Manson Family. Thanks again Scott!

I had booked this tour because my husband and our friends were going to Blizzcon in Anaheim and I wanted to do something that was enjoyable for me. I am an avid Hollywood history buff and I've watched all of the E! shows about the tragedies and the shocking moments so this was the ultimate tour for me. I met Scott Michaels who has an awesome amount of memorabilia and knowledge. Richard was our tour guide and he was very knowledgable about all of the sights and made it an amazing experience. I highly recommend this tour to anyone who enjoys the dark and satirical side of Hollywood.

I’ve been a fan of the FAD web site for years and had promised myself the next time I was in the LA area I would book a trip. My adult son and I attended a tour this past Sunday (07/24/11)

Our tour guide was great, knew all the sites, sounds and stories..not just the “official tour route” but took us to see a few other things off the scrip. In a strange / funny / ironic twist while sitting in the van hearing a story of the death of a famous so and so at the luxury hotel location we sat in front of, what happens? Two funeral home attendants wheeling out a body in a body bag. I thought our driver was going to burst open he was laughing so hard.

We had a great time. Vans were clean and comfortable, the trip was worth every dollar spent. We will be back to do the Helter Skelter tour next.

The Darker Side of Los Angeles at it's Best!

We had an absolute blast on this tour! Looking for something fun and different to do in LA? This is your tour. I am a local, but still heard lots of info and trivia that was new to me. A slightly twisted, darker version of Hollywood facts, crimes scenes and infamous locations. Our tour guide Brian was very knowledgeable and extremely entertaining. He obviously loves what he does. Next up will be the Helter Skelter History Tour. Can't wait!

Worth every penny!

The tour is worth every penny. It is THE best Tour I've been on in Hollywood so far. The Tour lasted almost 4 hours! Scott drove us all over Hollywood, to most of the locations that surrounded the murders. A MUST for those interested in the Manson/Tate/LaBianca Cases. Scott also has another Tour that I went on last year, the Dearly Departed Tour. This Tour is also worth every penny and was 3 1/2 hours. I will go on them again when I return to Hollywood in the future. Thanks Scott!

Scott Rocks

Scott did a great job taking us on his tour. He took us to so many locations, some of the places I had wanted to see for a long time. The tour was very interesting and Scott had a lot of information on every location and what happened there. It was great. I am looking forward to returning next year and taking the other tour. I wanted to take the Helter Skelter Tour this time, but I had to leave before it took place, but the Tragical Tour exceeded my expectations and I had fun. I really recommend any tour that Scott does.

If you're interested in the "dark side" of Hollywood, then this tour is for you. We saw some interesting places and heard information that only the tour guide would know. If in the Los Angeles area take the time and do this tour. You will not regret it.

Definitely Do Dearly Departed

If you like history mixed with passion and comedy, I highly recommend the Dearly Departed Tour. Our guide, Richard, had a great sense of humor and a great passion for Hollywood history, both the common and obscure. The tour is lighthearted and the 3 hours goes by fast. If you want to laugh as well as learn, this is a tour you should take. The only drawback for me was my seat position in the tour van. I was unable to take any pictures of great quality. As much as a I hate the open air bus, I think it would be more conducive for this tour than the van.

Fabulous tour!

When you have a guest coming to town, you want to ensure that you show them the best time and, therefore, pick the best tour for your guest. So, I was a bit overwhelmed with the array of options in the endless sea of choices for tours. But I am certain that I chose the best one. The Tragical History Tour was everything that I wanted and so much more! There were so many things that we loved. We loved the tremendous energy that the guide brought to the tour and the incredible arsenal of knowledge that he was armed with. We loved his silly humor and wacky opinions about random things. We loved that every second of the, almost 3 hours, was filled with facts and fun. We loved the fact that the bus was cozy and covered, which was amazing in the LA sun and not common among the other tours. And I loved that although I am an LA local and a huge fan of all things LA and Hollywood and was still very pleasantly surprised to hear so many great things that I wasn't aware of. I especially loved the perfectly timed Cemetery break. All in all, it was a tour that I would highly recommend to anyone.

Full of Facts and Fun

Scott (our tour guide) was what my friend described as a 'true-believer". His love of Los Angeles was apparent throughout the tour. His knowledge of true crime as well as other L.A. fun facts makes this tour extremely worthwhile. For locals or visiting friends this is a great way to spend the afternoon.
