Fun tour off-the-beaten path

The guide was very nice and knowledgeable. We went off-the-beaten path for the average LA bus tour. We appreciate all the trivia about our home city. It was a fun family afternoon.

Excellent tour!

This tour was fun and interesting! As a first time visitor to Los Angeles, I was very interested in the "darker" side of Hollywood, and this tour was perfect. It was 2.5 hours long, and we were shown a number of different locations where celebrities had passed as well as famous landmarks. Throughout the tour you learn a variety of history about Hollywood, not just the morbid stuff, but interesting facts about cinema and the city itself. You are shown photos throughout the tour, and also get to hear different audio excerpts including interviews, 911 emergency calls, and some music. Our guide was very helpful, insightful, funny, and accommodating to our group. We were able to stop at a cemetery and visit the tombs of several different stars, and our guide was quick and eager to answer any questions we had. We learned a lot on this tour, and it was a great was to spend the afternoon. I would highly recommend this tour, and I will be taking the Helter Skelter tour with them on my next visit to Los Angeles.

Great enthusiastic tour guide Brian!

My guy has always lived a bit on the morbid fun side and anytime we drove by dearly departed he'd talk about wanting to go, so for his birthday I took him on the tragic history tour. Brian was our tour guide who greeted us with warm smiles and a genuine happy birthday. Brian told us a funny story (amongst many) about a woman who complained he talked too much, but I found him to be charming, endearing and genuinely enthusiastic about what he was talking about! I could truly go on about how much fun it was but you're better off going yourselves and experiencing a fun afternoon. We will be back during Halloween for some more creepy goodness!

Fantastic! I have never been on a tour before and I highly enjoyed it. Although I wanted to do the tour specifically on the Manson family, I was not disappointed. Thank you so much for a wonderful experience.

This tour is both entertaining and informative. Scott really knows his stuff! My husband took me for my birthday and even though he's not as interested in the case as I am he said he still was interested during the tour because of the way Scott presents the information. I would definitely recommend this tour, we had a blast.

took this tour about four years ago and again it is great. Brian talked for an hour more than he was supposed to. He knew everything about every home we pasted. He knew where the spot on the sidewalk was that every one died on.. We were all over Hollywood, Bev. Hills... parts of LA it was great. and I would definately go again and recommend it.

I REALLY enjoyed this tour!

Yea I am weirdo to some for liking true crime, etc. but it felt so great to be in the company of other weirdos who have the same interests. I really enjoyed myself and it took a lot of self control to not want to jump up and down at the excitement I felt about going on this tour. Very informative and I did learn new things. Highly recommended!

I had researched the Dearly Departed tour at length before booking and I was very keen to take it. Our guide was brilliantly enthusiastic and provided a very indepth knowledge of the sites visited as well as other little tid bits about LA, which was very interesting.

My only gripe was that whilst the crime scene / dearly departed sites we visited were interesting, and in the case of the Viper Rooms, iconic, there wasn't nearly as much of them as I was led to believe, and instead we ended up seeing things like regular celebrities houses or the scenes of things like Rihanna and Chris Brown's bustup, which wasn't really of any interest to me.

I understand they do this to ensure the tour isn't too dark and morbid, but I feel that as the tour is labelled and sold as the Dearly Departed tour, people would know not to expect a regular LA Hollywood Homes tour.

I would definitely recommend the tour, but be mindful that it isn't all gore and macabre as you may expect - although, the shop that the guides run is brilliant and well worth a little mooch around.

Best, most fantastic tour of Hollywood!

This tour gives you the most thorough information on the background as well as what's happening now in Hollywood. Scott and his staff are very knowledgeable and encourage you to ask questions as well as engage in conversation about the subject at hand. If you only do one thing while in Los Angeles, this is it!

Tour Guide Brian is the reason to go!

The tour was fun, a different way to see Hollywood, Beverly Hills, and other parts of LA as a local tourist. Brian, our tour guide, made it fun and much more interesting than it would have been otherwise. He has a wealth of information about the city, and you will learn and see so much more than the dearly departed. I'm looking forward to taking one of their many other tours, hopefully with Brian.

Some Unknown Hollywood Facts

Took my sister, an occult aficionado, who was visiting from out of town and it fit the bill perfectly. We learned a lot of previously unknown facts and it was fun to see where things had happened. Brian, our tour guide, was very personable and loads of fun.

Everyone in my group of 6 had a great time on this tour! Scott (the owner) was our tour guide, and he did a great job of presenting a TON of information in a way that was both impartial and engaging. It was neat to see the various sites, but I think for all of us in my group the best aspect of the tour was the information, which presented different theories along with the known facts, but was still very logical and impartial. Even my father-in-law, who considers himself a casual expert on the Manson murders, came away learning a lot. Anytime anyone had questions, they were answered immediately and thoroughly -- Scott is a legitimate historian and it shows. It was also great as a look back at Los Angeles in the Sixties, and the ways in which the area was affected by the murders. I wouldn't recommend it for the squeamish: You have the option to not look at the crime scene photos (and plenty of warning is given), but there are also some audio descriptions that might be slightly upsetting to more delicate sensibilities. But as long as you are aware of what the tour is about and are comfortable with the subject matter, it's definitely worth the time and money.

Great tour but not what I expected
Sun, May 10  12:00 PM jocelyndarsi Female 20-29 Unspecified Unspecified
Our tour guide was great and the tour was very well structured but I didn't know many of the people we talked about so it was a little bit more boring than I expected. Im not sure if I didn't read the tour description accurately but I think it should be specified that the tour was about older cases and older Hollywood.
