Dana Wharf Sportfishing and Whale Watching was started in 1958 by Don Hansen, running several sportfishing boats off the San Clemente Pier. He Moved the operation to Dana Point Harbor when it opened in 1971, this was where the West Coast Whale Watching industry originated. Today Dana Wharf sits in the heart of a busy, flourishing harbor and continues to be owned and operated by the Hansen family.

Dana Wharf Whale Watching began in 1971 and was the first whale watching company in Orange County.  We are the premier year-round whale watching facility in Southern California. We interact with thousands of whales  during the Grey whale migration in the winter and Blue whales in the summer. In addition to whales, thousands of dolphins, sea lions, sea faring birds and even sharks are found in our waters,  we always have plenty of wildlife to see. Our fleet of Whale Watching vessels include that largest vessel on the West Coat the 95 foot Dana Pride the favorite with families and school groups. Our Luxury catamaran the OCEAN ADVENTURE the first of its kind in Orange Couunty , is a power Catamran with a very large viewing deck instead of a net for optimal viewing without getting wet!

Dana Wharf also has a fleet of Sportfishing boats specializing in local coastal fishing such as the 9 hour 3/4 day trips and the very popular schedule of 5 hour 1/2 day fishing trips.

Seasonal Catches include Calico Bass, Sand Bass, Barracuda, Bonito, Halibut, Rock Fish, Yellowtail and more.

The trip was ok. It was just a bad timing. What do I mean? Well when I went, the weather was cold. And it was not a stable fishing experience. I fished before and I caught lots of fish but in this trip, I didn't catch anything. But my cousin did. And he was new to fishing. So I guess he had the newbie luck. By ill go again. Just in a better time of weather. But the employees are AWESEOME! They let me borrow a pole when mine broke. So I tiped them good:)

I was very excited to see many whales since this has been a very rich season of whale sightings. We saw a few dolphins around the boat as we were leaving which was great. Then the search for whales... for a long time. We saw two or three whales, but no breaching or anything exciting. We could barely make out their bodies as they were gliding in the water. Mostly just beautiful views of the coastline, where I live in Laguna. Also, the constant talking of the person guiding us got annoying after awhile. It was difficult to hear him clearly, and it mostly seemed like a distraction from our not seeing many whales or anything worthwhile. I wouldn't recommend this trip. Sorry.
