One of the best whale watching experiences ever!

What started as a local jaunt to celebrate a birthday turned out to be one of the best whale watching experiences we've ever had. As our ship headed back to Dana Point harbor at the end of the trip, our captain spotted a pod of about a hundred dolphins in the distance. He turned the ship around to follow the pod even though we had come to the end of the tour.

Our ship was surrounded by dolphins leaping out of the water -- truly a joyous experience. Granted, we were extremely lucky to find the pod, but kudos to the captain for spotting the pod and delaying our return to the harbor to give us this experience.

Lots of ocean life action- whale, dolphin & seals!

Plenty of ocean life action. We got to follow a gray whale for quite awhile, then saw lots of dolphin and sea lions all around the boat. The whale didn't get very close to the boat, but it was still great.

OK trip, but saw no whales...

We went on a beautiful clear January 19th morning (the 10 a.m. trip). Friends had told us there haven't been many whale sightings in the last few years off the Dana Point coast. . However we decided to go anyway. For seven landlocked Utah people, it was just nice to get out on the ocean. We first saw a large group of dolphins. We followed the dolphins for 15-20 minutes (or they followed us) then the captain said we were going to look for whales. We saw no whales, but did see sea lions, pelicans, and other birds. The view of the coast was great all during the trip. It was chilly with the wind blowing, and a coat was an absolute necessity. I would have liked a little more talking by the captain (or crew--whoever was doing narration). They didn't say much--would have been nice to have them tell some stories, or identify land marks, or something--they spoke about twice in the 1.75 hours we were on the water. Food was advertised, but we didn't purchase any. Maybe they should rename it the 'Dolphin watching experience'. It was an ok trip--3 stars out of 5. I would do it once, but probably not again.

Keep in mind that on these kind of trips, it is really up to your luck whether you'll see any whales / dolphins / other marine animal. When I went, I was 90% sure I wasn't going to see anything at all, so I viewed this merely as a nice excursion with my girlfriend out to the sea. So when the dolphins showed up, everybody got really excited, and for me, that's an extra bonus. I think the trip would've been nice even if we didn't see anything, but of course, when we did, that was a pleasant surprise!

Enjoyable and relaxing

We did not see any whales, but did see a rather large pod of dolphins. The ride and just being on the boat was relaxing and they really do guarantee that you will see either whales or dolphins or you get to use your tickets again for a future trip. Really nice crew, as well, and a surprisingly filled galley food selection.

Captain and crew were very helpful and lots of humor and fun.

They found a pod of Dplphins and stayed with them for a long time so we could see and enjoy them all.

We really wanted to see a whale but had not luck.

Beautiful day anyway.

Whale breached several times!

We had a great time on the whale watching tour. The crew was very knowledgable. I liked that the company seemed to have respect for the whales and didn't want to disturb their natural migration. We got really lucky and saw a whale breach several times, which they said is pretty rare. The boat ride was smooth and there was food and drinks available, and music playing; we had a lot of fun.

Crew was Very friendly. We only seen dolphins for about 10 minutes, they were swimming along with the boat, got some great video. We did not see any whales and was a little disappointed, but did not blame this on the company , it was a beautiful way to start the morning with the boat ride and as we were getting off the boat the crew members gave everyone a free pass to come back again. Made my day as they did not have to do this. Will definetly be back again and will bring some more friends with us. Excellent customer service. Would recommend for everyone.

Whale watching - don't wait too long!
Sun, Mar 1, 09   12:00 PM cakaras Female 50-59 Local Group of Friends
While it was a beautiful day at sea and we saw many beautiful pods of dolphins, no whales were to be found. We waited too late in the season (Mar 1) so missed the south whales and too early for the north. The out-of-towners were all disappointed. I've been on no-whale trips before, but the captain and crew were able to make the trip entertaining with great information and attitude. Not this trip. I recommend the large catamaran vs. a cruiser like the Dana Pride.
