I have lived in Orange County for more than two years, and I wish that I had done this before. My cousin and grandmother came to visit from out of state, and I booked the the tour/cruise for the three of us. The weather was beautiful, the view of Dana Point from the ocean looked like a painting, and the dolphins and whales did not disappoint. We saw 4-6 gray whales and a huge pod of common dolphins. The crew/staff were very friendly and knowledgable. Also, the cruise does not interfere with the animals travel patterns or harass nature just for a photo-op.

We had a beautiful day for the whale watching. The day before they saw 13 whales. We saw none. The crew tried extremely hard to find some, but all we saw were three or four white fin dolphins and sea lions on the buoys. It was quite disappointing, but the boat ride was nice.

It was cold and windy, saw quite a few dolphins but no whales. We were disappointed as we had family from Europe and Chicago area with us.

Crew of boat was friendly. They seemed to know a lot about whales and they conveyed information very well.

Whales sighted!

A perfect day to be on the water. Large pods of Dolphins played around our boat showing off their beautiful swimming skills. Then, 2 whales stayed on the surface for us to admire for over 20 minutes. Observed the adorable sea lions sunning themselves on a buoy and then home. A great rip for my out of town guests. The only down side was the boat. I expected us to be on the Dana Pride, the larger, newer boat but when we arrived was told we had been switched to the older, smaller Clemente. I was concerned because one of my guests becomes sea sick and resented not being informed of the change in time to change our reservation. We went anyway and, fortunately, all had a great time.

We were very lucky to cone into a large pod of Dolphins, despite heading out in fog. We were totally surrounded by hundreds of swimming jumping dolphins - truly an experience of a lifetime. The boat was immaculate. Overall great, but I did find the one staff member was rather curt for no reason. He no longer seemed to be enjoying his job. Overall it was more than we hoped for.

The trip was pretty much like I expected it to be. As an avid outdoorsman I know that wild animals don't travel by a set schedule and their actions can be un-predictable.

I am sure many tourists expect to see about 100 whales per trip, all with their flukes about 15 feet out of the water for 10 seconds each so cameras can be focused.

In a perfect world...right.

We saw whales, the crew was pleasant...we had a good time. We got a few good photos....the price was right.

All good stuff.

Thanks

Beautiful Day on Whale Watching Excursion

This was a Valentine's Day excursion my husband and I decided we wanted to take. I was pleasantly surprised with the cleanliness of the boat and the guarantee of seeing whales (or at least dolphins) or they will give you "whale tickets" for another trip. Yes, we ended up getting the whale tickets but that was out of the generosity of the operators of the trip because we actually did see a small pod of white sided dolphins jumping and playing with a sea lion. It was really neat! There were about 100 people on our 2 hour trip but the boat was easily large enough to accomodate 200 people so there were no feelings of overcrowding. After we returned to the dock, we decided to have a late lunch at The Jolly Roger which was "a few steps" away. One other note...we decided my 86 year old, wheel chair boun father-in-law could easily come with us on our return adventure. The boat was very handicap accessible.
